Is there a catching prospect, past or present, that Moreno is similar too, either in style or in potential? I'm struggling to think of an appropriate comparison cause there have been some well-regarded catching prospects who had good seasons, but who were not always consistently at their best. Maybe something along the lines of a Willson Contreras?

The "athletic former infielder with excellent bat skills and good pop" profile got me thinking of early-career Russell Martin a bit.

Maybe a little Lucroy? But even then he never showed close to the kind of power Moreno has this year.

I was thinking Martin from a height perspective but he was less of a free swinger than Moreno. He always had consistently good walk rates. Realmuto? He was also a former infielder but never showed this kind of pop in the minors.

In all seriousness, I wonder if Reese's incident had an impact on his play last season. Could also have been a weird year that impacted his bat. He has a wRC of 108 and also provides good defense. He's not striking out at an alarming rate. Last year he was making a lot of very weak contact if I remember correctly. I have said this many times but I still don't understand how a team didn't take him while he was on waivers.

I would keep Logue as a starter while in the minors but I could easily see him being a good reliever. I don't think his stuff will play as a starter in the MLB. Anyone knows his velocity this year? I know he typically sits around 90-91 in previous years.

I said it a few times on this board as well, the fact no one took Reese for free was mind blowing for me. He was at worst a defense first catcher making league minimum. If Jeff Mathias could get a job then Reese deserves an opportunity too.

He also had 2 good offensive season compared to a bad one last year which was understandable.

Now he has the highest catching WAR and 6th highest position player WAR on the team.

Let's see McGuire keep it up for at least two whole seasons before we crown him an all-star, kay?

That said, I'd have no problem keeping him over Jansen. He's left handed and we got some great right handed catchers hanging around. Teams were offering big time pitchers for Jansen last year (supposedly). Go for it.

The only teams they haven’t hit well against are the As, Angels, White Sox, Rangers, and Royals.

Define "not hit well". I'd rather see something more concrete.

spilt OPS+ below 100(league average). It's a stat that measures how 1 team is doing against an opponent(in OPS) compared to how the league is as a whole. Essentially offensively the Jays have performed better than the rest of the league has against every opponent they've played except those 5.

2021 Toronto Blue Jays Batting Splits | Baseball-Reference.com

Scroll down to opponent and it's the last column.

Take the Rays for example. Our OPS against them is only .700 which isn't great. But our sOPS+ is 111 which means as a whole the rest of the league's OPS when they play the Rays is about 11% worse than the Jays. Doesn't mean we're hitting well against the Rays but we're performing better than league average against them. Not sure if it's the greatest stat to use for the conversation at hand, but if you're doing better than the rest of the league against a team it's kind of hard to say you're doing bad even if the pure numbers don't look that great.

Jays are bad in late/close this year compared to the league average, but there's zero historical precedent for that being anything but sample size luck.

Quick edit here, splits .500+ and <.500 this year

.500+: 20-27, 4.89 R, 4.55 RA
<.500: 15-8, 5.26 R, 4.09 RA

Even backing out the <.500 teams the Jays would still be 5th in the AL in runs per game. The culprit (shockingly) has been the Jays absolutely pathetic bullpen against .500+ teams.

So weird. Just yesterday I was about to post about a couple under the radar guys having great starts that needed to be promoted soon, and Kirwer was one of them.

He's 25, but he crushed Vancouver. The guy had a 155 wRC+ with 6 HR, and a 15.9/19.4 BB%/K% in 170PA. Not to mention he's got 25 steals in 27 attempts.

Some others having good starts:

Ryan Gold
Addison Barger
Cameron Eden

Nice quick edit to get Eden in there before I had a chance to mention him! Not the same level of dominance as Kirwer (123 wRC+), but he's a couple years younger, showing some pop he didn't have in 2019, 22/24 in SB attempts, and playing mostly CF.

I'm always intrigued but what some of these moves might mean. It's almost always nothing, but it seems awfully convenient that NH adds an OF the same day Springer moves back up to the Jays... it seems to suggest (again, probably just in my head) someone might be moving from NH to Buffalo.

No one is crowning Reese an all star. I’m just saying he’s having a good season so far and he has done well in the past. Last season he was terrible but I wonder if that could have been his incident. I think Reese will be an excellent backup catcher or a a decent starter.

Yeah I couldn't remember the 4th guy I listed ln for the life of me! Just squeezed it in there last second.

Barger is the guy that really interests me. Still only 21 with a 140 wRC+, 5HR and almost a 10% walk rate in Dunedin. I mean the fact he has almost a Woodman K% and a ridiculous BABIP is definitely a negative, but he did have a much better K% in 2019.

As for the guy that should be promoted? We gotta want it to be Taylor right? If it's not him or Moreno what are we even doing here.

I thinking giving Taylor a few more weeks at AA wouldn’t be a bad thing. Moreno should be the one that gets promotoed.

Moreno's the obvious choice, yeah... as good as the other guys are, they all have a clear weakness of some kind (in Taylor's case, the K-rate is slowly coming down but is still above 30%).

Lopez would be interesting as another guy who can play all over the place.

You just know Springer will draw in tonight, we will all be excited, and then we will find out he is batting 6th so they can "ease him in". Good times ahead though, I think they're going to go on a good run here before the deadline.

I'm hoping they put him in the leadoff spot right away, but he can be as low as 5th and I won't really care - the top 4 is already fantastic, so "easing him in" by batting him behind Semien/Bo/Vlad/Teoscar would be fine by me.

But my gut tells me you're right and Montoyo will sneak Grichuk into that top group as well, just because he has a way of passing on "not ideal, but at least defensible" in favour of "uggggggggh" moves.

Yeah definitely wouldn't hurt to have him play down there a little longer, but I'd love to see an aggressive promotion. As the guy keeps crushing the ball, his K% keeps going down. Just a really bad start holding him back.

Moreno is such an obvious choice, but with Jansen and Kirk coming back soon AAA is going to have at least Adams back.

Best MLB Uniforms Ranked According to Sports Fans (Survey)

I know it sounds bias but i think the Jays have one of the best logos in sports and should be top 5 in uniforms and color scheme. Though the new powder blue jerseys are awful imo.

I understand teams like the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and maybe Cards should be ahead because their jerseys are iconic.

I like the D'Backs jerseys from the Randy Johnson/Curt Schilling days but they have the worst; jerseys, color scheme and logo imo, i dont know how their logo and color scheme is top 5. Marlins are not too far behind them either, the Florida Marlins logo and color scheme was great. They should bring those back.

Im not a fan of;
Arizona
Miami
Tampa
Cleveland
Houston
Angels
Washington

The retro Padres jerseys with the gold/yellow are great but the navy and white are awful. Milwakuee's royal blue and yellow are great, their stuff from 2-3 years ago was awful. Im lukewarm on the Rangers and Seattle. I like the M's logo but their jerseys could be better. Cleveland is likely going to take a step back.

The Marlins teal and black pinstripes jerseys were great. At least the current ones are better than the monstrosity they went to a few years ago.

Teams are usually ok when they do little bits of tweaking here and there, but as soon as they overhaul their entire identity, it tends to go horribly. Marlins moving away from teal, D-Backs moving away from purple/turquoise, Jays going to black and silver and almost completely eliminating blue even though the word "blue" is literally in the team name, Milwaukee getting rid of the best logo in the league and going to that tan-"gold" instead of bright yellow-gold, Padres scrapping brown altogether, Astros doing the same with orange... all their uniforms sucked until they went back to some version of the original, or they didn't go back and still suck.

Unless Manoah admitted to doing it intentionally, this is literally the dumbest suspension I've ever seen in my life. Even if he did admit to it, how does Montoyo get included here?

Hopefully it will get lessened or removed completely on the appeal.

What a bullshit suspension.

For Montoyo, I think it's automatic that if a pitcher is suspended for throwing at someone that the manager gets at least a game.

Ahhh, I guess that makes a bit more sense. I guess I assumed that was only in retaliatory cases.

so bautista edwin donaldson get thrown at season by season with out consequence a rookie has a accidental on purpose or how ever it played out and he gets 5 games. now we will see if its just going to be us that get disciplined cause mlb just set a pretty high bar for a ball that hit someone in the back shoulder
