Gurriel looked to have hurt himself late in the game and I imagine Davis and Hernandez aren't back from paternity leave given that it seems like both guys' wives just had their respective babies yesterday.

Basically we ain't got no outfielders since Springer is still hurt. It's Grichuk, sorta Biggio and that's it.

Can't Panik play RF and 2B at the same time though?

If you're out of it, you have to listen on the free agents I suppose. But I think you have a good chance at keeping both Ray and Semien beyond this year, so you can't trade them unless someone pays a lot.

Semien is interesting. He's having a massive year, but the middle infield FA class this year is LOADED. I'd love to bring him back, but we have to be mindful of the cost vs term.

Robbie Ray is someone I have a soft spot for. He looks better and better the more time he's able to work with Walker..... however, Ray is almost certainly someone we need to consider trading.

Yeah, people forget the 2015 Jay's record was pretty blah at the trade deadline. It actually won't take much for this team to surpass that team's record in the same time frame. Of course, that is to say nothing of their crazy winning streak afterwards...

But it's still possible. Right now this team has great offense, a starting staff that has solidified into something good, and a disastrous bullpen. The problem, and solution, is obvious, and that's not counting all the arms they should get back. Well, so long as they don't keep trading for reclamation projects...

Semien will be looking to rival Springer's contract. I like what he's done, but that's too much money to spend on a position of strength when the bullpen is a mess and your next year's starting staff consists of two free agents, a still very inexperienced young pitcher, and a guy who has pulled it together recently but could still fall apart...and will be a free agent a year after. It only made sense for Springer because our outfield depth looked like a joke at the time of his signing.

That free agent crop looks great, but...I dunno. We're just too strong at infield to really need any of it. Definitely go after pitching, and grab some outfield prospects while they're at it. Hernandez and Gurriel only have a couple years left and Springer won't be in center for long.

Ray is a likely candidate to resign, but he won't do us any favours. He'll be an older pitcher with his best opportunity to get some security, so he'll be going for the big contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he asks for something like 6 six years at $20million+, and that's not including the Toronto tax players always expect from us.

Springer isn't hurt, he's just on a rehab assignment. With both Davis and Hernandez out, this would be a good time to bring him back, but they'd rather not.

Remember we were deep into the Brad Hand sweepstakes and ended up missing out and had to settle for Yates? Really wish we ponied up for Hand.

Barnes seems like a decent buy-low candidate. A free shot to see if he can help that doesn't do anything to derail any other moves they might want to make. He's got a crap ERA this season but his peripherals say he should be better and he has a mostly decent track record besides 2019 and 18 innings this year.

Of course, and as always, relievers are voodoo.

Was it ever confirmed that they pulled out on Hand because they decided to go for Yates instead? Or is this just the assumption. Because it's equally likely that they were out on Hand because he said he wouldn't sign with Toronto for whatever they were offering and Yates was simply Plan B. I feel like it's easy to forget that there are two sides to any sort of negotiation.

Was Yates signed before Hand? Not sure i can recall i just thought he was their fallback. My mistake if im wrong

Even if he was that doesn't mean he wasn't a fallback. For all we know Hand's representation came back to the Jays and said "he's not signing with you" and that was the end of it.

Hand signed with the first team to offer him the closer job and the most money. I dont think the Jays backed out, they just didnt guarantee him the closers job or the most money.

The front office put together a competent bullpen....Then essentially the entire bullpen got injured lol I think the Rays might be the only team in baseball that could handle that long term because they have like 60 guys in the system that throw 99 with arm side run.

We're down 3 competent arms that were expected, 1 guy who fought his way here, and a bunch of scraps.

Half our bullpen is waiver claims if not more.
