Tellez to Brewers for Richards

I wanted Rowdy to work out soooo badly. I still hope he can figure it out, even if it hurts.

Richards is a nice little pen addition, though. A bigger name would still be helpful, but there are still a few weeks left before the deadline, and Richards and Cimber (for pretty minimal returns) should be a nice way to stop the bleeding.

Richards a nice little pen addition.

Bowden Francis has a pretty nice stat line in AA and AAA so far this year.

this could be a nice little trade

I like the deal. I don’t see Rowdy ever figuring it out as a useful full time major leaguer unless he makes major adjustments. I’ve always liked Richards, he has a very good change up and should be a useful pen piece. Francis could be something too.

Love how Ross Atkins has changed the narrative since he's taken over.

Came under heavy scrutiny, but was classy all the way through. Didn't take long for him to build a core and now we're getting to the fun part with so many exciting young players on the way.

Rowdy was so excited to be apart of this team, but ultimately he got squeezed with some other guys passing him on the depth chart. He's still got a great chance to be a big time power guy at 1B. I wonder if he asked for a trade, he was to good for AAA but just didn't have consistency at the MLB level. It wouldn't shock me if he figures it out down the road with a solidified role. He seemed like a popular team guy too and he deserves ab's at the big league level imo.

As for the pieces coming back, at first glance they seem ok. Our bullpen is still terrible so to get another middle relief inning guy in Richards who also has some starting potential and another AA starter with decent numbers seems fine. I actually have faith in Shapkins to bring in the right guys.

Was always a fan of rowdy hope he figures it all out and becomes the all fields slugger hes shown glimpses of.

Will be a big fan always but needs are needs and hehas struggled

Good deal for us and rowdy gets to go be the 1stbaseman on the crew

edit - my brain kept thinking pirates.

This is a fantastic trade. Richards is a great arm with control and we get a prospect back for a player that may not have a future with the team and possibly a position that is very easy to fill - may have already been filled with Dickerson. Too bad it didnt work out with Tellez but this is a great trade for us.

If Merryweather and Borucki are healthy, we may not need another arm.

Merryweather - CL
Romano - SU
Richards
Borucki
Mayza
Cimber
Dolis
Castro/Thornton/Kay

Pearson, Hatch, Murphy and others are depth. Chatwood, Edwards, Milone and COle can all be DFA'd when healthy.

I had high hopes for Rowdy. His debut where his first 6 hits were all doubles in a span on his first 3 games was very fun. But with the Jays wanting more flexibility to use the DH to rest guys and Vlad cementing himself at 1st as possibly the best player in baseball Rowdy was going to top out as a bench bat here and the profile wasn't even all that exciting as that. The return looks very solid. Richards had very solid numbers as a starter outside of last year and has been great in the pen this year. Under control through 2024. I know nothing about Bowden Francis but his numbers look quite solid as a depth starter in the minors who could potentially transition to a pen piece in the future. Seems like we got quite a bit of value for a player who despite liking him his future here was maybe or maybe not a bench bat.

Was Francis on the 40 man roster for the Brewers? I can't find anything on that.

I would want another solid reliever if possible just because of the potential for injuries. If everyone was healthy that’s a great bullpen.

Richards is a former Ray who pitched in the AL. Usually pitches more than 1 inning.

ERA and K/BB vs AL East Opponents:
Tampa:
3.86 ERA 11.00 K/BB in 11.2 IPs
Yankees: 3.79 ERA 4.60 K/BB in 19.0 IPs
Red Sox: 6.00 ERA 3.50 K/BB in 12.0 IPs
Orioles: 5.33 ERA 3.14 K/BB in 25.1 IPs

Ahhhhh my head knows this is probably a pretty decent deal but my heart really really wanted Rowdy to work out and is gutted to see him gone. Thought he was a fit as the long-term DH here but that 0-21 to start the year was a killer.

Looks like a good situation for him with an injured Vogelbach his top competition at 1B, at least. Really pulling for him and hope he does well.

Thats an interesting little trade. Rowdy looks like a great kid but his time was ticking here. Got a decent reliever and an okay prospect out of it. IDK if these 2 reliever additions say something about us wanting control, but interesting either way.

Francis is close to MLB ready too just from reading

Who gets sent down? Thornton?

probably Castro and then Saucedo when Borucki returns

Ya Castro likely goes first.

Just found out, Richards isn’t a free agent until 2025

It really is ridiculous that young guys who are effective and throw strikes go down just because they have options while the organization will continue to trundle on with the 'proven' Dolis and Chatwood and their combined 6.00 ERA while walking nearly a batter/inning.
