Maybe we are eating cash for someone more injured and then less of a prospect?

Anyone know options with Cimber? One tweet said expiring contract, one said 2 years of control...

How the MLBPA has let the league get away with arbitration for people above 30 is baffling but good for us!

He's had experience in the past in both CF and RF as well. As a 4th OF he would do well anywhere in OF as would Springer, Grichuk and Hernandez that have all played across the OF. He wouldnt be a starter, he would be a replacement for days off, lefty bat off bench, pinch runner of bench.

Definitely opens up opportunities for another deal to come. If it were I, I would retain Grichuk, Springer and Hernandez. Deal Gurriel. Most bang for your buck.

Dickerson plays average-ish LF defense, is 32 years old, and hasn't played an inning of CF in 6 years. There's no way anyone should feel comfortable playing him in CF, even on a part time basis.

Jansen's D is also being overstated whereas that was Reese's calling card

Yup. McGuire has been better behind the plate this season, and apart from Jansen's 2019 season which looks like a fluke (at no point in time was he considered an elite defender behind the plate as a prospect) they have been comparable defensively, with McGuire having the better defensive pedigree coming up.

And like Sticky brought up: do not use BABIP to fool you into thinking that a bad hitter is in fact just "unlucky". Jansen's BABIP matches what you see with your eyes at the plate: he makes a lot of suboptimal contact and doesn't hit the ball hard. Those balls are easily caught by defenders.

At some point you need to come to the realization that a guy just isn't what you expected. I don't understand how people can accurately critique someone like Grichuk who's production doesn't consistently "meet expectation", but then put on every blinder imaginable for Danny Jansen. Need I remind you that this past offseason there were a few people on here actually arguing that signing Realmuto wouldn't be a worthwhile upgrade because we had Jansen LMAO.

I looked McInvale up - he was a 37th round pick in 2019 who throws fairly hard. Around mid 90's this season from what I saw from one report. He has obviously had a good season this year, but you can't help but conclude it as a win to flip a late round AA reliever for a guy who can help the bullpen today.

It is just a prediction but to get a decent pen arm this early in the season, I bet we gave up a notable minor leaguer, perhaps even a very good arm. Pardinho? Or if it’s a lot better Kloffenstein? Miami also had their eye on Van Eyk last year but probably not that big of a name.

Dickerson was a hot commodity two offseasons ago. That’s a great bat off the bench.

Looks like Miami is sending us money to offset Dickerson’s salary and Cimber is a rental. Thought he had more years of control.
This is just wrong on all counts..

His contract is expiring, but FanGraphs has him still as arbitration eligible and not a free agent until 2025.

History says the Jays should have given up A LOT more in a deal like this. The fact they didnt, proves that this was and is a big win from them on paper.

To get a reliever with multiple years, a month ahead of the deadline for a bench player we wanted to get rid of and probably a non top 60 prospect is ridiculous imo.

Taking on Dickerson's salary isn't exactly nothing, but as a fan it might as well be.

Baseball trade values has the surplus value in this trade as

Marlins get: 0.7
Panik(0.6)
McInvale(0.1)

Jays get: -0.6
Cimber(0)
Dickerson(-0.6)

So the cash the Marlins would be sending would need to be 1.3 million to make it "even". Looking at his contact and the % of the year left. If we're paying 4.5 I don't think they're sending that much.

That being said I don't see how McInvale is worth more than Cimber or how Panik is worth 0.6 million more than his contract. We needed a pen arm and needed to not have Panik so it's easily worth it even if it's a small "loss" which I don't think it is.
