Forget about replacing Panik as bench bat, just send him the other way!

Assume the minor league arm we are sending out is waaaay down the list.

Possible other trade coming?

Dickerson plays all OF positions and is above average defensively with some pop in bat.

Bigger trade coming where Gurriel is dealt? Springer, Grichuk, Hernandez and Dickerson are enough depth for this team at OF spot considering you also have Biggio that can play out there as well.

Wouldnt surprise me to see Gurriel and prospects being dealt for upgrades in the bullpen. Cimber is a start along with Axford. This provides us with depth. But we need some power proven arms.

This already checks a lot of boxes for me. I thought it was super obvious from the beginning that all these speculated Richard Rodriguez trades that had us sending back legit prospects were pretty unrealistic. If they get another couple 2-3.50 ERA middle relief guys for low-level prospects then I'm happy.

Also, hats off to Joe Panik. For all his faults, he was a trooper. Best of luck to him.

Could at least provide the option to trade one OF. But my guess is would he a deadline deal in a month since sounds like Dickerson will be out about another month anyways dealing with his foot injury.

It is just a prediction but to get a decent pen arm this early in the season, I bet we gave up a notable minor leaguer, perhaps even a very good arm. Pardinho? Or if it’s a lot better Kloffenstein? Miami also had their eye on Van Eyk last year but probably not that big of a name.

Dickerson was a hot commodity two offseasons ago. That’s a great bat off the bench.

Looks like Miami is sending us money to offset Dickerson’s salary and Cimber is a rental. Thought he had more years of control.

Still need to see what minor league pitcher is going the other way, but it's probably Zeuch or Allgeyer or something, so I doubt we'll care. But yeah, it's a great move so far.

- No more Panik means more opportunity for Espinal. It also means there may be an IF spot available for Smith.
- Dickerson gives them a lefty bat to fill the Rowdy spot, and it gives them some flexibility to move an OF if they want. He's hurt now, though, so need rush to make a follow-up move.
- Cimber is a super weird but really solid reliever with two more years of control after this one.

Just a really nice move overall. I'm so glad they did this instead of trying to hang on until the deadline.

Dickerson plays LF (he hasn't played another position since 13.2 in rf in 2016) and he is not great defensively.

Outside of last year, he's been an average or better hitter every year.

Maybe the price is cheaper because the Jays agreed to take on Dickersons salary.

Cimber has 3 more years of control.

I'm guessing (and hoping, obviously) it's more about the salary relief for Miami and the piece going back is just someone they're hoping can step in and eat innings right away.

So he's at minimum out until post-all star break. As long as we can get his lefty power bat back for the September series in Yankee stadium, I'm happy.

He's had experience in the past in both CF and RF as well. As a 4th OF he would do well anywhere in OF as would Springer, Grichuk and Hernandez that have all played across the OF. He wouldnt be a starter, he would be a replacement for days off, lefty bat off bench, pinch runner of bench.

Definitely opens up opportunities for another deal to come. If it were I, I would retain Grichuk, Springer and Hernandez. Deal Gurriel. Most bang for your buck.

Maybe we are eating cash for someone more injured and then less of a prospect?

Anyone know options with Cimber? One tweet said expiring contract, one said 2 years of control...

I hope so too. Dickerson being out awhile and Cimber being rental makes me think the pitcher isn’t a great one but you never know.

We will own his Arbitration rights until the 2023 season.

I thought it was two, but B-R and Fangraphs both show three more years.
