If Vesey somehow got the Conn Smythe trophy during his ELC, particularly this season, I cannot fathom how much salt would be generated between all of HFBoards and Mike Harrington.

The last player on our team that I wanted to see succeed badly is Kreider after he got the goalie running reputation. This is on another level for Jimmy Vesey.

Not saying you're wrong...but he has some serious swing and misses.

ironically, if you listen to his critiques about the team, MTL still has the EXACT same problems 10 years later... Their center depth sucks and their defense is still not even close to cup contention levels...

The only part he's actually "wrong" about is the goaltending that MTL already had. They had lots of depth in that position, but literally none of those guys actually panned out to be NHL goaltenders:
- Huet fell apart after his 2010 Chicago Blackhawks stint where he lost is starting spot to Anti Neimi (seriously, that bad? Neimi was so average that year)
- Donnis became a career AHL goaltender
- Garon played a whopping 32 games for MTL, and posted a career 2.83GAA and a .903 Save%
- Theodore became an NHL Journeyman Starter with a 2.68GAA and a .909 Save%

You do realize Theodore was 28 when Price was drafted, and a Hart/Vezina winner two seasons years prior? 2.27 GAA, .917 Save% the year before the lockout.

Obviously the Canadiens saw something in Price but hindsight is always 20/20. Sure it's funny to look back and listen to this 11 years later, but at the time that was a reach and was generally hated by their fan base given the presence of Theodore.

If they take Kopitar (who was considered a top 5 pick heading into the draft and slipped to 11) they probably have more success to this day.

Hey talent is talent....the Hawks took Jack Skille @ 7 while Kopitar was still on the board.

Watching some highlight, he seems like he has a good backhander. Like to see guys who can get some strength on their backhand without a huge windup

Gaudreau-Miller-Vesey was dynamite that tournament.

Now let's trade for Gaudreau.

Redline Report from the 2012 draft

Jim Vesey (South Shore Kings): Vesey is a big, skilled winger with soft hands and scoring touch around the net. The Eastern Junior Hockey League is not the most heavily scouted loop, and though Red Line had him pegged as a sleeper for last year's draft, this second-year eligible somehow slid through in 2011, only to demolish every scoring record in EJHL history this season. Vesey is a scorer who is also an unselfish playmaker. He has improved both his skating — the one drawback in his game — and his willingness to compete hard on a consistent basis.

Yep, we'll see.

I'm not expecting him to be better than Hayes, but I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised if he is.

I'd be legitimately baffled and giddy if he turns out to be better than Hayes.

People need to realize how good Hayes is. Bump the Hayes thread if this deserves a deeper dive. My supervisor just left for vacation.

So. Many. Charts. :P

I think the comment is more how they were viewed coming out of school...it's a weird distinction but it probably wouldn't be crazy to say Vesey was a better college player and his game projects better as a pro than Hayes' did. Doesn't necessarily mean he'll come in and best Hayes' season...I mean hell Hayes didn't even best Hayes' season ;)
