And yet I'm the one who gets destroyed for daring to question Hynes choice to play Kinkaid. :thumbd::thumbd::thumbd::thumbd:

Saying that Cory wouldn't have fared better is not giving Cory any sort of credit here. After playing poorly against Columbus, I think he would've played better than Kinky did, imo. I mean...He's supposed to be the Go-to Starting Goaltender. Instead he's given a day off as if the Rags were NOT a division opponent.

Which of the goals tonight would you have expected Cory to stop?

The “Zajac is too slow and unskilled and doesn’t make us better” meme looks kinda true at the moment. Guy has been garbage for us. If he can’t find another gear and keeps getting big minutes, it’s gonna kill us.

Zajac needs to just adjust his game. He's still trying to play like it's a controlled, systematic game like he always did, but in reality, the Devils right now are just playing like controlled chaos. You see Zajac too often go to make the routine normal play like he always would only to have Gibbons or Wood or Coleman barreling in out of nowhere.

Let's also not forget the Devils are icing like nine new forwards right now. Zajac spent the majority of last year solely with Hall and Palmieri and no one else. Hischier, Bratt, Johansson, Noesen, Coleman, Boyle, Gibbons, and Hayes are all essentially new players for Zajac. Everyone else got the benefit of a training camp whereas Zajac didn't; it's almost like a completely new team for him.

Then why doesn't Hynes play Butcher more? Because Hynes sucks.

Noooooo........ it's becuase Butcher was really poor tonight, other than that brilliant pass he had that led to a goal.

I just gotta think why do you disrupt the locker room to such a degree when things are going so well....

For a right handed Dman when you have Severson, Santini, Butcher, Lovejoy and Prout who can all play the Right side. It was and is a very questionable trade.

It was an obvious trade. The Devils were 1 starting D injury away from losing by 4 goals every night. You said yourself at the start of the season the Devils desperately need to trade for a defenseman who can play minutes. Vatanen is that guy.

That 3-1 turnover by Severson was horrific. The defense overall was really bad - the 2-0 goal we had 4 guys in the corner covering 2 Rangers and still let them pass to the open guy in the slot.

Zacha had a good game. Real nice pass to set Wood up.

His history with defensemen is abysmal. Here and in Pittsburgh.

That's fair, but we're going to have to wait and find out.

I think we will get a better grip on this deal next season. Vatanen with a healthy off-season and a full training camp should hopefully rebound to a legitimate #3 and hopefully more.

As of right now, he's still looking to find his groove.

Was the Zuke goal the one Severson coughed up the puck? If so, Kinky threw him under the bus on the postgame.

We gave him a chance tonight, but he still played on par with how he's looked this season, even with the barrage of chances.

We can't play him every back to back, if we really want to be a playoff team. Cory should probably be playing 65 games this year. He's on pace for 59 starts right now. As long as he's playing like he is right now and we're in a playoff spot, he should be playing 63-65 games.

Yup.

I don't blame him for that one, that was probably the shot that he had the least business facing tonight.

I agree that it's way too soon to cast anything into stone but it is frustrating nontheless.

Uh oh...baldie's mad right now
I heard it.

This BETTER get better next game, because in these last 2 games, actually 3 of the last 4 games, we've gotten a visit from the December 2016 Devils. I'd even go as far as to say the Columbus game that we won wasn't much better. Cory probably has a brain injury from standing on his head that night.

That pathetic excuse for a hockey game against the Panthers 12 nights ago, was another night that the December 2016 Devils paid us a visit.

Exactly. It's one thing if we are at the bottom of the standings with the BuffaLOL's of the world where playing Kinky more often than not won't matter.....But we're UNEXPECTEDLY in a playoff race so we go with our #1 goaltender....UNTIL WE AREN'T. So far, we're still there so PLAY CORY, HYNES...YOU MORON!

At the same time, the Devils don't return a healthy Vatanen at his best for 1.5 seasons of a 28 year old Henrique.

I think this is very similar to the Larsson trade. Devils took a step back defensively in the hopes of taking a few steps forward offensively and you see it paying off now with Hall's play. I'd hope the same happens with Vatanen later on in the year or next.

It's a calculated gamble on Shero's part.

Did he use the F word?

No, of course not, he has some class. But he was ripping the team apart, repeatedly saying they played "soft" and "loose" and anytime a reporter offered an excuse "back to back games", and "you havent played many rivals yet" etc........ Hynes immediately shot them down and put it on the team, etc....

No, at least not in the portion they showed but he called them soft and loose about ten times, said there was no excuse on the back to back cause the Rangers were on the back to back too. Someone asked him about playing Metro teams, he came back with Arizona wasn't a Metro team and we played the same way.

Well...the team is soft.

Edit: yelling and hard practices isn't going to change that though.
