Which is why I dislike the sentiment about “how to win.” If the Rangers won with Lundqvist or win with Shesty, the narrative from 31 teams will be “we need an elite goalie to win!” Which is in stark comparison to the current “goalies don’t matter, the Avs and Knights just won with otherwise shitty goalies!”
Just build with what you have, 31 teams don’t win each year. Even the absolute shoe-ins don’t always win - Boston’s recent record season and the Lightning heavily favored being swept by Columbus in the 1st round as very good reminders. There is no “right” way to win. In a series of 4 win “seasons,” catching lightning is it, not planning around a McDavid or McKinnon. Hell, the Rangers have arguably a top-2 W, D, and G in the entire league. Run with it.
