The one RD prospect drafted high is a bust. It's a tragedy, and there's a lot of good defencemen from that 2018 NHL draft. Looks like Detroit might get caught with bad defencemen too (McIsaac).

Hopefully we have scouts and a GM ready to pick-up NCAA UFA defencemen. There's a good crop and Vancouver has jobs available for those kids to easily fill in..

Is he getting a call up to the Chinese national team for this oncoming Olympic tournament?

Apparently he's week-to-week with an undisclosed injury (Chris Faber mentioned this a few days ago), but is supposedly skating so that's something. It's really to bad injuries/covid have hampered him of late (Woo's played just 6/21 possible games since Dec 1st)...cuz he was starting to turn his season around after a slow start. Woo was pointless with a -4 rating over his 1st 9GP, but had managed 2G 5A 7PTS (only 1PPA) and a +8 rating over his last 11GP. Hopefully he can pickup where he left-off...whenever he returns (sooner rather than later would be nice).

seriously, that's all it takes? wow

It's even less than that - he has two Chinese-born grandparents and would only need one.

That said, the IOC regulations look positively restrictive compared to international rugby, where you have Samoan guys turning out for Scotland and Ireland after living there for 3 years.

What's the fascination with having one of our own represent another country? Woo is Canadian and represented the country at U17 and U18 tournaments.

with Chinese born Grandparents making him eligible

could be a massive learning experience for the kid and aid in his development
I am pretty sure a lot of Canadians have grandparents from different parts of the world, we don’t see people asking hey why don’t they play for their grandparents’ country.

I though IIHF rules indicate you must choose which national team you'd like to represent by your u16 year. I believe Myers is dual citezen and had to choose between Canada and USA. Once you do so, you are ineligible to represent any other nation. I could be wrong though.

Woo of course played for Team Canada well past his u16 year.

Everybody knew that Woo's test in the AHL would come this season---when the taxi squad players of a year ago all found their way to the league for 2021-22.

But to say that his season is a bit of a 'disappointment' to date, would be a considerable understatement. Even before his injury he was struggling, and even sat out a few games as a 'healthy scratch'. Along with DiPietro's erratic performance in goal, it's a troubling sign for a couple of kids who went into the season as a couple of the Canucks most hyped prospects.

I just hope I live long enough to see a Canuck draft pick have a solid first season in the AHL, and then actually build on it and become even better in year #2. Just never seems to happen though.
