When you say "apparently" was this based on any reports? They were obvious candidates to be selected given where the two were ranked and team needs etc. but other than that I haven't come across anything reporting that said one of them was on top of the list before Hoglander was moved up.

Benning/Weisbrod re-jigged the draft boards after day 1 to take Hoglander which was apparently the breaking point of the relationship with Brackett. Somewhere at the time it was reported that there was a big defender the scouts would have taken but I’m not digging to find it 5 years later.

Jett Woo is already 24, and prospects like D-Petey, Kudryavtsev, Mynio and even Wilander have sailed by him. He's a career AHL-er at this point, and closer to playing in Europe than the NHL.

Benning and Co. were consistent to the bitter end. Couldn't find a single NHL d-man from the Dub in eight years of drafting.

We don’t pick from the WHL period.

Even Kole Lind seems to be on a similar track granted he’s played some nhl games. I do hope to see woo make the nhl but like you said, won’t be a nhler p, probably a professional player in a different league.

This management team does seem to be dipping their toes back into the WHL over the last two drafts (Mynio & Alcos).

Absolutely true.....every year there are some good pro d-men drafted by NHL teams. But with Benning and Co, it seemed the closer a player was to home base, the less they actually knew about them.

Our CHL scouting has sucked over the years, but when it comes to the Dub, it's just been unimaginably bad, up until the regime change.
