He's woeful at zone exits. Can't clear the zone to save his life.
To save his life you say.,,,
But seriously, he was one of the best Jets last night. Made the other team turn the puck over in neutral zone. Don't know why you don't wait till he has a bad game to bring up his flaws. Wheeler, Laine Connor have all been worse in their own end at times this year.

Quick thoughts (Heritage Classic edition)...

ESW - Ehlers had some good jump early and tilted the ice. Scheifele was fine, but not that noticeable. Ice conditions like this impeded his style, which relies on a lot of close puck control. Wheeler was just okay. I think his effectiveness on the PP is questionable at this point. Roslovic would be better in that spot because he's quicker to retrieve pucks and a better shooter.

CLL - Laine had a really good game considering the conditions. He was aggressive and had some good puck control. Little was okay through the game, though it was hard to get a read on his defensive play watching through the lens of the upper deck cameras. Connor wasn't that strong during regulation but that OT rush was scintillating.

CLR - My goodness. This line pummelled the Flames all game. Roslovic was outstanding - best Jets forward all game. He really adds punch to the line. Copp was his usual beastly self, and Lowry was strong. Love this line.

PGB - Perreault had a ton of jump. Too bad he's playing with Bourque and a rookie. Gus wasn't up to the pace. Bourque was wasting space. He does absolutely nothing on the PK.

44-3 Best game from Morrissey this season. Smart, fast and aggressive. I'm really appreciating Poolman's progress. He had a strong game.

7-4 Kulikov is playing much more aggressively this season, and for the most part that's been good. However, he's making too many mistakes with the puck and has tunnel vision in the offensive zone. Pionk was good again. He has a lot of talent and he played a smart game.

23-2 Dahlstrom was okay. Bitetto wasn't very good, but this pair was simple enough to get the job done most of the night.

Hellebuyck was really solid, which is all the Jets needed.

I disagree on Roslovic. Again he was a turnover machine in his zone. Outside of our zone he was much better. I don't think he's ready to take over from Wheeler on the PP. Wheeler has the size and determination to win puck battles, while Roslo relies on speed (not a bad thing). Also, didn't Wheeler almost score on the PP with a laser?

I don't wait for a bad game to bring up anything. I've been mentioning this about Roslovic for a year. He's young, and he's going to figure it out, but right now he turns the puck over too much in our zone, simple as that.

Pionk ruins the powerplay. He thinks hes buff but cant get a shot thru and if he does, its just bad
The problem with the PP is not Pionk, it's their lack of movement. If you stand around it's way too easy for the PK to jam up the lanes. Morrissey on a static PP makes more sense because he has that shot and that will tend to spread out the PK (like Buff does back there.

If we started moving around more on the PP and passing quicker then Pionk is the right choice as he is excellent with the puck, moving around, escaping pressure and passing. His point shot is not his strength.

Absolutely need quicker passing. Laine and most of PP2 think far enough ahead to perform one touch passes all the time. Most of the others stop and hold the puck far too long.

Goaltending has been very good, defence has had it moments of decent play and struggles.......young guys & newbies to the team on defence benefit significantly from practices between games. Forwards need to get scoring again, this is one problem we shouldn't have.

Did you not see him get asked when sitting down with Scott Oake?

No. But - I searched and found it, thanks.

Then sat through the interview until 11:14.

I watched and rewatched this segment. I don't see what in his response provides and semblance of a crystalline definition of a Buff non-return. Perhaps an interpretation that is veiled behind a supposed wall of platitudes? :GWC:

Perhaps someone can define the precise moment when Maurice provides that information?

You are absolutely correct. He has his warts. They all do. You can also focus on what he does well and call that out as well. Also that in my opinion at the moment with our lacklustre offense deserves more opportunities.

Good summary Whileee. Don't think I disagreed with a word of it. :thumbu:

I'm pretty confident the Jets can make the playoffs... The forwards are very deep. You will have some terrible blowout losses along the way but if Hellebuyck plays like this it is very doable.

Laine has always had great passing vision it's nice to see him finally racking up the points.

It would be nice if those were goals. After all, at that level anyone can pass the puck finishing is the challenge and where superstars make their bucks.

Jets don't spend much time in their own zone with Roslovic on that line. He has really improved his overall game, though he does occasionally try too much in his own zone. He's still better at zone exits than Connor.

Also, Wheeler hit iron once, but whistled it wide on the far side or placed a muffin into the goalie's mid section a bunch of times. There's a reason opponents leave him space for that shot, it's the Jets' worst option.

The things I like about the Jet's this year - so far :

1) Helle is playing at a SP% of around 93 % and that should get us into the playoffs, if he can keep it up.

2) Roslovic's play has improved dramatically, and he looks like he's playing with a lot more desire and confidence, and also driving the line. If he keeps getting better, we'll be really good.

3) I think they should be playing Morrissey over Pionk all the time on the point, or playing both together. Mossissey has a good accurate point shot that we need on our power play.
\
4) The Jet's seem to be an all around better team with Little in the lineup -- I'm glad he's back.

Things I don't like about this year's Jets

1) The defence will need a couple more upper middle defenceman, we are vulnerable in this area. I think this is obvious.

2) Our forwards are not scoring -- Maurice needs to shuffle the lines, or do something, as we're not getting goal scoring from Wheeler, Scheifele, or Laine --this has to improve.

3) Laine needs to improve his accuracy with his shot, as he's missing the net far to often, and he's supposed to be our sniper.

On a side Note -- I really liked the play of Hamonic for Calgary, and I understand he's an UFA agent after this year -- the Jet's should really try to sign him -- he always gets his shot on the net, and is a very good solid defenseman. Hope the Jet's sign him, to replace the hole Buff has left on our back end.
