Woke up this morning, and was sure the game was still on when I read 0-0 with sleepy eyes.

Holy bejeebus, shutting out the Oilers with that D is a friggin miracle!
Go Jets Go..

btw, not that it is a problem, just curious, how come Ehlers never gets to shoot penalties? He was pretty good in Halifax and for the NT.

Honestly the best defensive effort of the year so far.

Not sure how many 2 on 1's the ol' heart can take in the O.T. ... but next time, let's try and limit it a bit OK. I think the only reason we got that game to a shoot-out was because the Oiler's kept flubbing the pass on the 2 on 1's.

Here's a thought provoking thought for you.... when was the last time the Jets won a game and no player was credited with a point???

Who would of thought that a team with a bunch of new faces & young players would benefit from actually have enough time to have a practice? :sarcasm:

They still are imo what I’ve said they were for months now, a bubble team but it shows some the Sky isn’t falling like they think.

According to SN, Ehlers did shoot that Laine SO goal. Used his stick and jersey as well ;-)

Connor and Laine are some pretty good shootout guys, and Scheifele is also very good. After these three, I guess Ehlers would do very fine, but against Oilers there was no need for the 3rd shooter as both Connor and Laine scored and McDavid and the other guy (maybe Drai, cannot remember) did not.

McDavid had a particularly pathetic effort on SO, btw.

Defence? We don't need no stinking defence!

I think this game below from 2014 was last 1-0 shootout win for this team:

Just shut out the hottest team and players in the league with THAT defense. We should be very proud. That’s a great win.
TEAM defense. For once. The ability to arrange the players better thanks to Little's inclusion makes a world of difference. And yes, the guys at the blueline played a very solid game as well. Hellebuyck played great. McDavid had an off game, and we had some luck in the overtime.

Was impressed by Connor's game. He's looked a bit soft lately but not last night. He was hitting and playing really hard.

Really, really hoping to see Gustafson stick when Letestu is healthy... that and Little being back makes a massive difference for us

Agreed, I thought Connor was really good last night - hope he and Little can get some chemistry going (along with one of Ehlers or hopefully Wheeler)

Great win, solid effort, Little makes HUGE difference, Copp and Lowry are like bread and butter, Roso's best game of the year, Hellebuyck perfect.

Yes!

Now the reality check. See if we can actually string a few of these games together in a row, instead of going and (bleeping) the bed in our next game. This means absolutely nothing unless it's a trend.

No excuses now. If we can do that to the Oilers, then we need to do that far more often.

s Laine considered a line driver yet?
It's still Scheifele's line, and he's still the best player on the team (other than going offside at a really bad time), but I'm liking Laine's overall play. I still think that our power play, and his positioning on our power play, is far too predictable. But this isn't the time to dwell on negatives.

heinola should not be kept on the team and burn an elc year.

even though he seems capable, he still needs to mature.

I think he should go back to Europe.

much less chance of him getting seriously injured there as opposed to the ahl.

if the management of this team has shown anything it is patience in player development.

I do not think he should be rushed.

we have other young defencemen that can be looked at this year and given a chance to see where they are.

just like the development of our young forwards, we are at a point where we have time with our young defence.

especially if buf comes back
Whoa, watch out.
While you make some good points, I do think that he will be better served in the AHL. Better competition, North American ice surface, same defensive scheme as the Jets... his development will take longer if he goes back to Europe.

Injury happens to all.
If you are thinking he will get injured

Instead his better developing in europe.

That's not the way to think.

If he keeps forcing his way.
He should stay.

That's whats good about Heinola.

He just zoomed pass all the other Jets young Dman.

The other young Dman can be looked at by replacing the 6th Dman.
Which is not Heinola at this moment.

If we are afraid to burn an elc so we can slide back a year and thats is the reason. Jets shouldnt do that. If the kid can play he should play.
If he can't then no.
So far he can play. Not just his own play, but also how the Jets D becomes more dynamic with him in the line up.
He will screw up for sure. But all players does. But he is out weighing the cons by his pros. I think that is the bottom line.
Sending him to Europe , he is not gonna get better with his D game or offense. He will get better playing against NHL best player.

I also advocate to keep Heinola because his mental game is super high.
That is important, if he is a bit fragile. Sure slow him down.

If our reason to send him down are;
He will get seriously injured
We burn 1 year of his elc
He will be better playing a year in Europe ( weird with Kves, different with every players).

I think that is up for discussion, if those are our reason to hold back a progressing player in the NHL.
I think he should spend time in the AHL if he isn't elected to stay with the Jets full time. He'll benefit from it and the team will benefit from it. He has been solid (more solid than I originally thought he would be), I certainly do not think that he makes our defense "dynamic"... he's not there yet. When he's using his head, he's making the simple play, which is not dynamic (but it is safe).
And I agree, being afraid that he gets injured is no reason to send him back to Europe. If that was the case, we shouldn't have drafted a waif to begin with. He was drafted to play against the big boys in North America on the small ice surface. DO NOT send him back to Europe.

Little gets beat on in here constantly , i really hope this helps show how much we need him to be our 2nd line center . I like Copp but Little gives that 2nd line a little more pop . If everything went according to plan Roslovic should eventually get the 2nd line roll but not just yet . Roslovic also helped give Lowry and Copp a little more offensive pop too , great effort all around now lets win a few in a row here .

Someone may have to translate this image for me before I can click "like". :)

Its a legacy of the late great Dragon Ball Z. Its Super Saiyan mode.

Here we have a National Soccer Coach for Mexico doing his best Laine impression. I have hit this mode a couple of times... i) when Laine was drafted to the Jets ii) catching a 27" greenback Walleye near Black Island iii) on hearing that Peebles won the Nobel prize in physics for his work on Cosmology and the discovery of dark matter iv) discovery of Timmy Ho's selling cooked eggs in circular format... etc.

Great win ... the Jets finally played a team game. I only saw the last 2 periods but what a difference when everyone is on the same page. With Little back the team looked a lot better too and now to get Buff back after Christmas and we are back in the hunt
Oooooo , i thought the Mods missed a bad word there at the end of your sentence .

Was impressed by Connor's game. He's looked a bit soft lately but not last night. He was hitting and playing really hard.

After the game Maurice was again crowing about what a good defensive player Connor is. Connor had a better game than usual yesterday defensively (by my eye test at least), but that doesn't elevate him to the level Maurice sees him at.

Some Forward Thinking:

This is the most Little love I've read in a single thread in years. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and seems to have helped some minds as well.

I'm more and more convinced Wheeler should be playing RW with Little and Connor, moving Ehlers to the top line. Connor is a finisher, could score 40 goals playing in the Ladd slot, and Wheeler will be fresher playing fewer minutes.

For PP1, I'd try putting Wheeler in Connor's spot, Ehlers on the half-wall and Connor on PP2. Connor is not optimally utilized behind the net; Wheeler could do much better there for a number of reasons, and is getting stale on the half wall; and Ehlers is the only player on the team who is skilled at both bringing the puck over the blue line, and distributing it.

Remember the film RoboCop? Well, we have our very own RoLoCop line--3 centers, lots of hockey IQ and endless acronym potential....

Only 5 pages after the most exciting, most outstanding win of the year against the best team in the league, including a goose-egg against the best offence in the league? How very unsurprising.

JFK once said that "victory has a thousand fathers, defeat is an orphan". Apparently even he couldn't imagine this Bizarro World turning that maxim right on its ****ing head.

To be fair, not everyone gets a chance to post after every game.

That was one of the most entertaining games I've seen in a long time. And I felt completely comfortable through it all. I think if we keep this level of compete up, we will surprise a lot of people this year.
