I still think we're going to need a couple D-men that can blast it from the blueline. We have no threat at all from the back end in this regard, and we're going to have to do something about it.

This is where Buff's return would be huge --for us to get in the playoffs, or go anywhere if we get there. We need this.

Good game tonight though -- but our back end is still suspect, but they looked decent tonight, so you have to give them credit.

I give pomo a ton of ****, and while the PP was and still is an absolute train wreck the game plan for today was solid, a super deep 1-4 and counter attack.

That 3v3 we got super lucky, we gave up what three 2 on 1s?

so let me get this straight.

our powerplay sucked.

we gave up chances 3 on 3.

so you would of been happier if our goalie also sucked and we lost the game?

give it a rest. we played 7 games in 11 days to start the season.

I think the team handled it very well.

we are done with both the islanders and the pens for the season and we have completed 2 of the 10 back to backs we have this season.

for a team with 3 new defenceman I have no complaints about where we are compared to the rest of the league

the Oilers gave up a shit ton too. At the end of the day, the Oilers did have a lead in xG in 3v3, but only just. Of course, the Oilers getting their chances primarily first is a big edge cause it's sudden death.

But, though, the PP looked super good tonight. Dunno what I might be missing.

It was nice to see Connor skate right around McDavid in the overtime, and charge the net, and leave McDavid standing still. Shows you what kind of speed Connor has if he wants to turn on the Jets. --"very impressive" --he really does have some nice afterburners there.

Hard to believe people watched that game and all they could think to do was complain.

agreed.

the problem is that some will never be happy until Matthews wins the rocket because his on pace goal rate was higher than the player who actually scored the goals

kind of like how the leafs should win the cup, because on paper they have the best team.

Jets were full marks for the win, looked really cohesive defensively, lots of support, tremendous through the middle and the D were excellent moving the puck quickly and effectively, other than a few wobbles by Poolman. Thought our wingers played a strong game along the wall, in both ends.

I thought all those missed chances in the 1st were going to come back and bite them, glad they didn’t. Loved the turnovers they were creating tonight, they were really closing off the passing lanes and not letting the Oilers transition.
Helle was rock solid tonight. Predictions of his demise, greatly exaggerated.

Absolutely loved the games from, Ehlers, Laine, Roslovic, Lowry, Copp, Morrissey and Pionk. Special mention to Heinola, who I thought handled himself pretty well again. He’s a work in progress but he makes a lot of good things happen.

Felt bad they called that one back on Dahlstrom. He was one happy dude when that went in.

Congrats to Maurice, 700 wins is something.

A Few Thoughts:
-Fun game to watch--the most complete 2-way game of the year
-Hellebuyck is looking very confident and calm again--0.929 for the year
-Gustafsson didn't play much but he already has the size and smarts to play a bottom-6 role on this team
-Nice to see our 2 RFA holdouts win the shootout and Roslo get some well-deserved recognition
-Congrats to Maurice on the 700, an incredible achievement:clap:. Heard a lot of nice things about him from his players post-game; seems they haven't kept up with the HF narrative :sarcasm:

all that means is that you need to stop paying attention to the eastern based media.

the oilers are a good team and have been playing well.

there are more than a few teams that thought the oilers would be easy pickings.

it seems you were both wrong

Hard to believe people watched that game and all they could think to do was complain.

When you have a post history that is *literally* over two thousand consecutive posts long of negative things about the team you ostensibly cheer for, and you do so with full knowledge that the rules both make you immune and expose your critics to warnings and penalties, it's actually quite easy to believe; the internet brings out the worst in us all, so look upon it, ye mighty, and despair at what it does to the worst of us all.

your all welcome for my post in the GDT.. helly is clearly a bryan adams fan :naughty:

pretty crazy game.. first time i was entertained this year! lets go keep the train rolling!

Actually, I'd more say the hockey gods are clearly Tom Petty fans.. our GDT out of the blue lining up all the way with Hometown Hockey's theme? Unpossible!

Somewhere nice
I think they should keep Heinola,

The dynamic he brings in the lineup for the whole D out weights his deficiancies, which we all agree his physical maturity.

We are a better team with him.

If he needs a break in the middle of the year. He can sit a game or so to refresh.

Buff will be back by then, we will Have a solid top 6.

heinola should not be kept on the team and burn an elc year.

even though he seems capable, he still needs to mature.

I think he should go back to Europe.

much less chance of him getting seriously injured there as opposed to the ahl.

if the management of this team has shown anything it is patience in player development.

I do not think he should be rushed.

we have other young defencemen that can be looked at this year and given a chance to see where they are.

just like the development of our young forwards, we are at a point where we have time with our young defence.

especially if buf comes back

Gutsy defensive effort.

Hellebuyck was a wall.

Dahlstrom is an honorary 3rd star in my book for his slightly offside goal.

It was a pretty goal and he wasn't the one who was offside.
