But they only lost to documented PED users, so...

Are you suggesting that PED users are the reason some people are "underrating" Maurice?

Someone suggested that if the Jets would have won the Stanley Cup last year then Maurice's reputation would be better. I pointed out that they didn't win the Stanley Cup.

Agreed, I had no problem with how the Jets played last night . In fact I think it plays into our strengths as we have the pieces to be deadly in transition, in our forward group and on the back end.

I also found it hugely entertaining. One of my favorite games in quite a while.

My stress levels have gone way down. What a stresfull sport to be a viewer. I'm happy about this, I'd be pretty (insert bad word here) if we would be in a losing streak. We ain't got the game yet that shows all the talent and great line compinations, but at least we are getting nearer. No need to burn the playoff dreams at the beginning of season. Had a bad feeling, but the way the team is responding. Not a SC winner yet, but at least there's fire in the hole. Not too deep a hole and the fire isn't making it too deep.

I still have rest to be sacrificed. So when needed, I'll use the reserve.

He was the coach that led the Jets to the point in the season where *for the first time in our city's history* they were the actual favorite to win the Stanley Cup. That's still a monumental achievement that shouldn't be diminished by the vagaries of a single elimination tournament with enough variance to casually bounce out the best team in modern history in four games straight last year.

I am suggesting--accurately--that the only team that eliminated the Jets in '18 (per the post you were quoting, not last year) is also the team that had a player suspended for violating the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program that offseason--in other words, a handful of games later.

(I believe the point the user you were quoting was trying to make was that while Maurice has never won a cup, he has coached at least one team that was good enough to win a cup, and that doesn't even include the Hurricanes team he took to the final.)

You both make valid points. We're debating something completely different though. The OP on this topic was dealing with a hypothetical - that the Jets won four series in those playoffs instead of two, and that's where my issue is.

I mean, I'm speaking of a very specific and exact definition of luck -- when measured results exceed expected results. I know for sure that this isn't the standard kinda conversational definition, where we'd certainly never say that a prohibitive favorite (say, Canada versus Lichtenstein in women's hockey) "got lucky" to win as a 999:1 favorite or whatever.

This only holds true if wins are considered strictly binary which they are not. In a 3-2-1-0 point system Canada getting 2 points vs Lichtenstein is still win but would also be considered "bad luck" as expectation is well above 2 points.

I am thinking I'd only trade Roslo for an overpay right now as he is doing everything right to be the 2c as soon as Little loses a step.

I'd try him now. Little might be a smart player but you still needs physical tools to make the smarts work, and Little is falling further and further behind there.

Lowry Copp and Roslovic played well tonight. Really like that line

Yeah that line has good potential. The only problem is that it leaves MP as the odd man out but I guess he's good depth and can move up with injuries.

I pretty much agree with his assessment of that losing streak (around 6:00 mark). They played up against the Isles, but with no result, and have been building on it. It's still early; I'm very hopeful that we see a bit of a run and a whole bunch of so-called experts might be trying to convince the world that they were always high on Pionk and Poolman.

Interesting that he says he's careful not to be openly optimistic about losses. I wonder if that's something you learn in the centre of the universe--if fans, and the media, want to be furious, there's no telling them they're wrong.

Alright, that's also fair. Can obviously apply to the NHL with the average value of a loss being definitely greater than 0 points.

That first round was the real SC finals. The Jets finished second.

Was impressed by Connor's game. He's looked a bit soft lately but not last night. He was hitting and playing really hard.

Really, really hoping to see Gustafson stick when Letestu is healthy... that and Little being back makes a massive difference for us

Connor’s been bumping into guys all season long. He’s getting his man muscles.

And boy has Roslovic been better this year, I’m quite fond of his game right now, especially after having basically written him off last year.

Fun game, liked the team D and the CLR line especially -- more speed and some added potential for finishing in this version than some others previously. Also thought Gus played well overall.

I sure wonder about Roslovic centering Ehlers and Connor. That would be a jaw droppingly fast line. I have no idea how effective it would be, but man they might melt the ice.

It would be fun to see for a game, wouldn’t it?

We honestly got lucky.... This could just as easily been a loss. The amount of mistakes this team made is incredible....
I'm thankful for the win (I was there) but still am not very optimistic.... At least Helle has been decent.

We got some luck 3v3 (so did they). It should never have gotten that far though, Jets had 4-5 grade A chances in the 1st alone that could have made for an entirely different game.

They have a plan with him. He needs to work in defensive side learning with RLC.
