Prospect Info: Jets Prospects

Just because he can doesn't mean he should.

He's proven to himself and others what he can do vs his peers. This was largely an unknown outside of the WJC

His next logical step should be taking his tools and talents and adapting them to the pro game and the Jets systems. The Moose is the best place for that.

We're lucky in the fact that the AHL is an option for him in his D+2 year

I think another year of junior would be good for him. Let him rip up the league and get a point getters groove going. He will still only be 20, the following season.

He clearly wasn't ready for the AHL this year. This partial year in the W may or may not get him ready.

I think this will be a TC decision. Could go either way. He might be ready to rip up the A next season.

He is a late birthday. His draft year was for 2004s but he is late 2003, hence he will be a 20 year old in junior next year. Scheif and Morrissey were not late birthdays
I may be mistaken but I thought even late birthdays for draft purposes got 2 more years of Jr before becoming overagers. Lambert will still be 19 when the season begins, turning 20 in Dec. I believe he could then play the season after that as an overager, turning 21 during the season.

It used to be that teams could only have a limited number of overagers on the roster. IIRC, it was limited to 2. Again, correct me if I am mistaken.

It’s done by birth year. This year, the 2002s are overagers, after this season they will graduate and will be ineligible to play junior hockey (except for Junior B, but no major junior players will go there). Next year the ‘03s (and Lambert) will be overagers.

Teams in the CHL can carry three overagers on their roster.

Lambert looks incredible at times, just so fast and slick with the puck. What a skater.

Bauer is tough as nails. Best fighter in the AHL?

I hope Lambert can figure out how to utilize all that skill when he graduates to the NHL.

It would be amazing to see Bauer in the NHL just for the entertainment value alone. Modern day gladiator.

I remember wondering how Ehlers would have fared in the A after that absolutely dominant year in the Q where he was scoring at will.

If Ehlers 1.8 hits the A next year with more strength, smarts and confidence we will have some idea.

About the only thing this tells me is his development was really stagnant, either by his own machinations or by the development system in Winnipeg.

I think they had a difference in opinions of what he could be in the NHL. The Jets felt they had a guy that was probably not a top 6 player but someone who could play hard minutes on the 3rd line and chip in offensively because of a tremendous shot. A physical 3rd line winger who could PK. His camp felt he was a top line guy and they went to the KHL and he came back with that mindset and well he was largely ineffective when he did play. He likely stays overseas unless someone sees a top 6 player there

I think Vesalainen’s failure was a combination of the Jets/Maurice having to typecast players and completely reinvent their games to fit a desired role as well as Vesalainen’s work ethic not being up to snuff and he never had great hockey IQ.

If Vesalainen came over immediately after being drafted, I wonder if he would be still playing in the NHL.
I don’t think it would have fixed his skating or how fast he reads the game. When I watch him play he’s always behind the play never in it. There’s the puck and 3 seconds later Ves shows up.

So did the Jets typecast him to reinvent his game to fit a role? Or is it because he has low IQ, speed and work ethic that he was never going to be the goal scoring machine they hoped for so they tried to find a spot for him on the 3rd line where they hoped to teach him to use his size to work with Lowry and play a slower pace of game he could handle and still be playing in the offensive zone? Turns out he couldn’t do either.

The Jets did everything they could last year to give Ves every opportunity even long past knowing he couldn’t cut it. His failures are squarely on his own shoulders.

Low IQ, lack of speed, poor work ethic. So ........ Jets never should have drafted him. That is squarely on them.

Everyone can point to Robertson as one pick they could have had instead. But there weren’t many others in that area of the draft that were very good.

One of the biggest mistake Chevy made was trading back just to keep a shitty Enstrom for a few more games. There were a few good forwards that went off the board in that area.

And Oettinger was picked 2 picks later. A young stud goalie would look pretty good in this organization with Hellybuyck's questionable future with the Jets.
Come on. That’s just not logical. The Jets have one of the best goaltenders in the league signed long term and they should have picked a goalie Rather than try to fill actual holes?
