Prospect Info: Jets Prospects

Everyone can point to Robertson as one pick they could have had instead. But there weren’t many others in that area of the draft that were very good.

One of the biggest mistake Chevy made was trading back just to keep a shitty Enstrom for a few more games. There were a few good forwards that went off the board in that area.

Come on. That’s just not logical. The Jets have one of the best goaltenders in the league signed long term and they should have picked a goalie Rather than try to fill actual holes?

There were plenty who are better than KVes.

BPA - that would have been Oettinger.
Knowing how long it takes to develop a goalie that would have been a great move.

Edit: Yes, the trade was a mistake, whether it was to protect Enstrom or someone else.

I'm just pointing out the picks following the awful Vesalainen pick that are better. Robertson is another one that is already vastly superior.

While we are it, Wyatt Johnson looks like he might be shaping up as a future first liner - picked only a few picks after oft-injured Lucius. The Stars have been kicking our butts in drafting the past 5 years.

Man Dallas sure nailed that 2017 draft grabbing Heiskanen, Oettinger, and Robertson back to back to back!

Yup. 3 picks in the first 39 and a homerun on all of them.
Without that draft Stars would have aged out and got themselves into the Bedard sweepstakes.

The one thing we don't know is what agreement Chevy had with Toby. Enstrom didn't have to waive his NMC to be available in the expansion draft, but he did on reports Chevy would do his best not to lose him. If Toby didn't waive there would have been some young forwards that would have been made available to LV that the organization didn't want to lose. FYI the majority of players in Toby's position refused to waive their NMC to help out their teams. Chevy I'm sure felt obligated to keep his word.

It was stated quite clearly at the time that no promise had been made to Enstrom. Yes, Chevy did say that he would try to keep him. I don't know that he needed to try that hard. Who would they have lost if Enstrom hadn't waived? What other deals might Chevy have offered?

OTOH, who would he have taken at 13?

If I remember correctly having to protect Toby we would have had to go 4 forwards and 4 D protected instead of 7 forwards and 3 D like we did. I seem to remember the biggest fear at the time was losing Lowry.

Yes, you jogged my memory. Sounds right to me.

At the time, I wanted to buy off Vegas with a couple of prospects. Both Dano and Petan were still well regarded at that time.

Valimaki or Liljegren if memory serves

That kid is clutch!!! He definitely has intangibles to go with his skill.

Now just continue working on getting those first few strides quicker and we’ll have an amazing prospect on our hands.

If I’m not mistaken, Rutger has taken steps to improve his skating. Believe he’s been working with Barb Underhill.

Lowry or Copp.

Lost Appleton to Kracken Now he's back.
So in hindsight it was a mistake

Hard to look back and gnash teeth. For all we know they had KVes ranked top 15 and would have picked him anyways :sarcasm:. It’s easy to naval gaze on what could have been but without access to the Jets list we really don’t know who their pick might have been or what player might have been lost. Remember after this draft our in tact team went on the best run of Winnipeg Jets NHL history.

They were rumoured to have been interested in Liljegren, but that was a month or two before the draft. They may have moved on from him by draft day, or not. Then there are the last minute changes depending on who has been taken earlier, etc. It will never be known with any certainty.

Either of those 2 would be better than KVes.
