Prospect Info: Jets Prospects

Well let’s hope the organization doesn’t share your sentiments. After this season he will have 3 years on his ELC. Very little risk with the potential of a big reward.
I doubt there are any NHL players who have 3 consecutive season-ending injuries during their development years (missing significant time during each one of those injuries) who have gone on to become good NHL players.

It's a pretty tough stat to search for but... how many NHL players (let alone top 6 NHL players) had 3 consecutive season ending injuries before the age of 20 that needed surgery and still ended up being an at least "good" NHL player?

Nothing against the kid obviously, he looked fire on those Portland highlights over the last month but... What are the odds after this honestly?
Probably close to nil.

No doubt injuries have set back Chaz but he is still in a position to restart his ELC next season. The Jets still have a 3 year ELC window with no long term risk to see if a promising prospect can overcome his injury history.

Yup you just got to hope he gets over it at some point but he's starting to look like a Ryan Murray or Nolan Patrick. Players who had promise but had their career derailed by constant trips to the IR.

He hasn't played more than 25 games in each of his last three seasons. That is a tonne of missed time.

Shoulder, hmm I expect him to have legs like this when next season starts..

Yes the lost development time is an issue, but the real issue is that he seems injury prone. What good is he in the NHL if he never plays more than 25 games a season?

Nolan Patrick? oh, oh.

People here are still really high on Nik Ehlers and he has been injured in 3 consecutive seasons, two of which required surgery...

Hope the kid gets back on his horse.

He missed a lot of games this year. Previous season's he was probably about average for the number of games lost. It could become an issue but I'm not ready to proclaim him injury prone yet. In fact, I hope the surgery has fixed an ongoing problem with that shoulder (just speculating) and that he is better than ever and avoids serious injury for a while. Time will tell.

The last 3 seasons including this one have been tough for Nicky injury wise before that no big concerns. If he plays all 30 remaining games this season he will have a 3 year streak of 47, 62, 46 games. That is an average of 30 games lost per season. But like I said before that no major red flags, so I think we are still safe to say it is just a bit of bad luck.

Regarding Lucius and his injuries, while it truly sucks that he can’t catch a break I wouldn’t be so quick to write him off.

The following scouting report for a former NHL player reminds me a lot like Lucius. Can anyone guess who the former player is?

If Lucius has a similar career, I’d be pleased

I know some of you have the CHL TV package, but tonight's game against Red Deer has several other storyline besides just Brad Lambert.

**Head Coach - Steve Konowlohuck - Former T-birds HC.
**Kai Uchaz - Former Seattle Tbird - released from the Team For Racial incident with a Tbird still on the team.
**Dylan Guenther - Current Coyote/Former Oil King...Does he have a little bit of a chip on his shoulder being sent down?

1 of those seasons was shortened due to Covid. You can't blame those lost games on his injury. If he loses 30 games again next season I will be concerned. At this point I think it is premature to identify a pattern.

One thing Chaz has going for him is his success has never really hinged on his athleticism so injuries may not affect him as much as players who heavily rely on it. Another thought is that he keeps playing at a high level when he gets back. I'd understand the "his career is done" woes if he showed signs of decline when he gets the chance to play, but he hasn't, he continues to get better. Maybe he'll end up having a career filled with injuries, but without a crystal ball I'm going to just hope that this has been bad luck, which is strengthened by the fact that his 3 surgeries have all been on different parts of the body. It's not a single recurring injury which usually is what ends careers, it's 3 very different injuries.

Or he could be Martin Havlat and tear his groin climbing over the boards for a shift.

Was it ever confirmed that the knee injury was on the opposite leg as his ankle injury? I was wondering if maybe the knee injury might've been partially caused by subconsciously trying to protect his surgery repaired ankle. I know it's not uncommon for shoulder injuries to occur on the opposite side after a previous injury because people will subconsciously favour the uninjured side and strain it.

Either way, I think the injuries he's had are pretty fluky. I agree and I wouldn't call it a trend until repetitive injuries to the same location.

The only issue is at the higher levels strength and physical ability become much more important. We saw that with him playing in AHL earlier this year. He had a hard time creating space and openings for himself.

Hard to say how much he's improved as the biggest sign of his growth was a short sample in the lowest level he's played at in the last two years.

I'm definitely still pulling for him but I'm sure this lost development time has definitely hindered his growth.

I don't believe Junior eligible players should be playing in the AHL. So essentially 18/19 year olds. They should either be in the NHL or back to Junior where they can extend themselves. AHL is for system learning and strength conditioning.

It is super shitty for him personally that he got injured and that is likely the worst part of this. Will self doubt start to seep into his game. There is no doubt he can produce against his peers. He can produce at a very high level but that self doubt is going to be a rough one to get over.

I think the Jets were starting to view him as a likely possibility as a replacement center in the top 6. I still think they probably see that. Put him with talented players and he will produce. It isn't unconceivable that he will get a shot at proving he could play with top players in the NHL and see if he will still produce. Considering that the possibility that PLD does leave us next year, my personal opinion after watching him at the World Juniors and at Portland that he was trending in a direction to do just that. Step into the NHL next year between talented seasoned NHL wingers and see what happens.

You are talking about repeat injuries, which we all hope they are not. Season ending injuries in 3 consecutive years is certainly a trend. Let’s hope the trend ends at 3 but it is worrisome to say the least. Mostly I feel bad for the young man. Talent galore, but it must feel terrible to be laid up again. Hope he is mentally tough.

I'm remembering Buck Pierce. It wasn't repeat injuries, though he had so many some of them must have been repeats. Great player. Made of glass.
