Vesalainen looks like a pretty mediocre player even in Liiga. How did this guy play games in NHL last season?
A lowish hockey IQ player even for the Liiga level. Way too much of tunnel vision with his play. I had quite big doubts about him ever making it well in the NHL.

I wonder if Vesalainen is too heavy? He looks really big and bulky. He's not smart, but he's not fast either. That's a bad combination. Seems like things happen too fast around him and he has trouble reacting fast enough. I think he'd be much better if he lost some weight and got faster.

I was shitposting. I don't recommend we focus on only one league to draft out of.
Agreed, we've gotten very good players from all over:

OHL: Scheifele (number 1 C), Perfetti (Top 6 C/W), Stanley (Bottom pairing D)
WHL: Morrissey (Number 1 dmen), Lowry (3C), Harkins (fourth line/tweener)
QMJHL: Ehlers (top line winger)
USHL: Conner (star winger), Trouba (2/3 dmen), Roslovic (middle six C/W), Poolman (Bottom pairing dmen), Appelton (bottom 6 player)
NCAA: Copp (middle C/W)
High school/tier 2: Helle (Franchise goalie), Samberg (Bottom pairing dmen and improving)
Liga: Laine (top pairing winger)
SHL: Gus (4C with some upside)

I guess the main thing is this group does way better in NA. To be fair we didn't take many European players our first 5 drafts. We shall see how some of our European picks pan out over the next few years.

Lucius and McGroarty weren't super noticable in the first. McGroarty didn't get many touches but when he did he always made a good if simple play. He also had a nice play where he came up from behind a Finn with the puck and bodied him off of it. Anytime I noticed Lucius taking a face-off he won it, don't recall any puck touches from him really.

Lambert also won every face-off that I noticed him taking. He's going to have to settle down or he's going to lose the coach's trust fast. Too casual once on the powerplay and turned it over. Every time he leads a rush he's either made a bad pass on zone entry or tried to go through everyone and lost it. He had one nice zone entry but nothing came of it.

I know Rashevsky is under contract till the end of the season but is there any way to bring him over before that? I read stories about players like Malkin and Bure leaving in the dead of the night to escape their KHL team. Is that type of thing still possible or is it no longer the case due to NHL/KHL agreement (is that still valid in light of the recent events?). Is there anyway the Jets can just buy out Rashevsky's contract in the KHL? They can surely use him in Winnipeg.

McGroarty is a skilled passer.

It's strange to me that Lucius is playing center and McGroarty isn't. Think they'd both be more effective in each other's positions. McGroarty is always the one deep in the defensive zone helping out the defense anyways.

One is playing for the organization’s farm team where they 100% control over development. The other plays in the NCAA where they have 0% control over development, other than polite requests.

But they're both playing for team USA right now, and McGroarty is on Lucius' wing.

I think Lambert's too strong of a skater for these US defensemen in their first game as a team to line him up cleanly. If he hadn't been high sticked I think he draws an interference call either way.

He was very noticeable in his speed, unfortunately nothing really came from it. Finns didn't really have much going on at any point though.

That is going to be his challenge going forward. How can he translate his speed into tangible results on the ice.
