Hey PS. I should have said satellite radio. I was out at the lake and the weather was clearing up nicely, but way too much standing water to mow. So I decided to kick back on the deck and have a couple. Felt like some hockey talk and caught it on time. My biggest take away is how weak this draft is. All top prospects have some flaws in their game. Even Wright sounds like nothing more than a middle 6 2-way center at the NHL level. Certainly no one you trade PLD for. My biggest take away was Geekie who they had ranked at #23. Biggest knock was is inability to control the puck in tight to his body. They see this as a big knock against him being a point generator at the NHL level. To me he came off more of an Adam Lowry type, than a point getting #1 or 2 center. They didn't seem to really like any of the defenseman. In their eyes none will rise above a #2 or #3 in the NHL. Threw cold water on me entertaining any thoughts selling assets for picks in this draft.

Yea reading the reviews on some of the top guys in the Black Book and I am not coming away excited about any of them so its not an ugly year to be drafting #14.

I figure most of these kids are a year or more behind in their development because of covid. Some of them will still blossom at a later age. This is where having good scouts who can pick out the diamonds in the rough becomes essential.

Heinola's the closest, but according to some he's apparently too small for the NHL at 5'11"... Oh wait, that's the same size as Makar!

Height is not size. It is only 1 dimension. Makar is heavier, though not by a lot. Makar is 2 1/2 years older. I wonder how their sizes will compare in 2 1/2 years? Perhaps more importantly, how will their strengths compare? And their skating?

Still wonder what happened with Nikkanen this past season. Did like his play on previous seasons, but this season he actually regressed. I remember reading that he was doing his mandatory military service last off-season, so maybe that just ruined his season. Or maybe he wasn't a good fit for Pelicans playstyle. But clearly Jets were impressed by his previous seasons, since they signed him, even though based on his play this past season, he didn't deserve it.

pretty sure both are still under contract for 1 more season
Russian players having a hard time leaving.

At least he didn't get sent to the Ukrainian front.

They should start doing rounds 1 and 2 the first night, then 3 - 7 the next day. I would hang around for another round on the first night
3.5 hours of mostly boring commentary and predictable interviews is plenty for one evening. The only exciting part for me is when the man steps right up to the microphone and says, "we have a trade".

the draft is extremely long in-person. At least at home you can go get a drink or do other things. So much sitting around for everybody in the building, I can't imagine adding even another 2 hours.

Another draft in the books and I'm feeling much more optimistic about the future of the team. We still don't have any high end D prospects, but our forwards have the potential to explode. If we have a shit year and end up moving all of 55, 80, and 37 by this TDL (or the next), we need to focus on getting high picks/blue chip blue-liners.

Top 6 C/W?
Perfetti
Lucius
McGroarty
Lambert

Middle-6 W:
Chibrikov
Rashevsky

Middle-6 C:
Barron
Gustafsson

Others:
Our own 1st pick next year
Pick/prospect from 55 trade
Pick/prospect from 80 trade
Pick/prospect from 37 trade
