All of a sudden it’s fun to check in our prospect pool again. Our depth has improved.

Lucious is an interesting kid. He likes to get the puck on and off his stick fast but he’s growing on me. Definitely getting better as the season goes along.

Smith is older but having a season.

Our Russian kids both intrigue me.

The more irons in the fire the better.
It’s always been fun to check in on our prospects :)

Prospects tend to be my happy place. The challenge I had though is once Laine joined the team as a rookie and Connor stuck in is D + 3 season our prospect pool was totally gutted. K Ves wasn’t really that exciting for me and we followed up in 2018 with a late 2nd in Gus as our best prospect……..I liked the Heinola pick but our prospect pool was still kind in that 20-30 range in the NHL. For me everything rebooted when we landed Perfetti he was a very legit game changer to the pool for me. Then in the 2021 draft we landed Lucius, Chibrikov, Rashevsky and I like all 3 of them. All of a sudden I think we have a nice prospect pool again despite only picking 8 times in the last two drafts.

I found myself in exactly the same position. A couple non exciting years and now we have some fun ones to watch.

Definitely more fun this year - but I always enjoy following the progress of our prospects, even when they are not as good. I watched Paul Postma with anticipation in the early years. I admit, I was a little needy and desperate. Please! Anyone who can be an improvement over the dreck at the bottom of our depth chart. Any progress at all was much appreciated. I even had hope for Carl Klingberg and John Albert.

More recently it has been Berdin, Green, Vesalainen and Samberg. The newer crop are a lot more exciting though.

despite all the hype with Samberg he’s projecting more like the second coming of Poolman and not Trouba!

Don't forget Nathan Smith, he's leading the entire NCAA in scoring this year.

Rashevsky seems to have cooled off quite a bit after his blazing fast start.
Really like his game, even if he’s not putting up as many points as of late.

I remember being ecstatic after the 2013 draft. We were able to get Morrissey, Petan, Comrie, Lodge, Lipon, Copp, Poolman and the wildcard Kitchton.
I was most excited about Petan and Lipon after seeing them play in the prospects games and at rookie camp. They were so fun to watch.
It turned out to still be a pretty good draft but at the time I had hopes that it was going to take us all the way. Those first few years we’re so much fun.

So with @MrBoJangelz71 and @Joe Hallenback sharing their prospect lists a few pages back, I’m wondering what other folks’ top 10 list looks like.

Here’s mine:

1. Cole Perfetti
2. Ville Heinola
3. Chaz Lucius
4. Nikita Chibrikov
5. Dmitri Rashevsky
6. David Gustafsson
7. Dylan Samberg
8. Declan Chisholm
9. Nathan Smith
10. Daniel Torgersson

Honourable Mention: Henri Nikkanen

My list is based on what I think their ceilings are and how likely they are to hit.

Risers for me are Rashevsky (I didn’t know much about him) and Smith (I hadn’t bought the hype until now).

Samberg is falling but mainly because the others are playing good enough to force their way up the list. He’s still a good prospect.

Me too. Do we know how he has playing despite a cooling off? It is these dry spells that really define an offensively gifted player IMO

I think you still have Smith a little low. I was a little skeptical of him, but I'm getting on board. Being a little older, you expect him to play a little better but even so, he is looking good, I think.

I’ve started to come around to Smith but I just have pretty high hopes for the ones in front of him. Admittedly, probably shiny toy syndrome for a lot of them.

I wonder if Smith comes directly to the NHL after college, or if he spends a year or two with the Moose.

I could see him finishing this year with the Jets and starting next year with the Moose. But he can't need too long with the Moose if he is ever going to amount to anything. Age would be against him. Two years and he is an AHL career man, or goes to Europe.

Yeah, later tonight I'll try to research guys with similar career paths. Vesey is one that comes to mind immediately.

 Yeah, I thought of him.

I hope Smith does better, but if that is what we get, I guess it is still not bad for a 3rd rd pick.

Didn't Connor have a couple of linemates in college who looked pretty good that 1 year they played with him?

IIRC he played on a line with Compher who is alright in Colorado. But he was younger than Smith is now and he left for the pros the following year, split time between the AHL and NHL at 21 years old.

Can't remember the other guy.
