Smith has only ever played center, though always a possibility they convert him.

I don't think there is an opening at C for him. Half the wingers in the league (made up number) are converted C's. But Jets list 2 RW, 5 LW and 8 C on hockeyDB.

Game-Score takes into account individual stats: Goals, 1st assists, 2nd assists, SOGs, Block, Pen diff, FO Diff, Corsi diff at different weights. think they Stoller mentions they use Dom L's weighting.

Jets got both the top fwd and D

Really hope Ville's game translates. You see a kid like Adam Fox who is Ville's size with similar skating shredding the NHL and you hope Heinola's IQ allows him to unlock the puzzle? Fox entered the NHL in his draft +4 season which will be where Ville is next year. I know Heinola has excelled in the AHL and at the world juniors so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Game score is supposed to be individual impact correct? Or are there so many Moose players because the team is so strong so they put up points and that is a primary driver?

yes it's based on those individual stats with certain % weighting given to each (goals being highest, then 1st assists etc). gawanke is usually paired with chisholm or heinola so that could be a factor in driving his up.

On a scale of 1-10, what are the chances Samberg is a better NHL defenseman for us than Heinola? His tools just seem to project better to me, but maybe I'm just way underselling Ville?

Legit question, IMO. I think it will come down to how well Ville's scoring translates to the NHL, and of course, that is unknowable at this point.

Does anyone know what kind of track record game score has as far as predicting success from AHL to NHL over the last few years?

i don't think i've seen a lot of public material with game-score in the ahl. they don't post the corsi stats for free anywhere (you can find it here and there on twitter from analysts ie: J. Stoller) which is a component of the stat. so i am going to guess we don't have enough info to make any conclusions. but it's just a collection of individual stats with different % weighting (goals being the highest, then primary assists, then secondary assits etc.... believe corsi differential is the lowest).

Samberg will likely have a spot on any nhl roster because of his size, regardless how effective he is. I thought heinola was average to above-average given he was an 18 and 19 year old defender in the nhl, whereas Samberg (who actually turns 23 in a week), has as a few years on heinola from when he first debuted comparatively. he's played a sound-game against detroit, he only played 10 mins last night though (i wasn't watching super attentively so dont have much of a qualified opinion on his showing). Heinola is definitely more toolsy imo, and has played strongly at every level given his age from liiga, ahl, & internationally. i think he's been rated a superior prospect over the years, and has played better at each league in comparison.

as far as % chance, idk how to really put a number on it. but i think heinola has been quite a bit ahead of him as far as a prospect goes given at the same age, & even now at their current age/level. his ahl play has been quite a bit ahead from accounts/analysts ive read over the years. not sure if last year samberg was necessarily ready for nhl.

Jared Moe has a .925 save percentage in 19 games. Good for 12th in NCAA. Anyone watch this guy? Thoughts?

Yes I have watched him. He carries a mediocre Badgers team on his back, best Badgers goalie in a long time. If they had him last year and he was playing like this they might have actually gone to the Frozen 4. I am not a goalie expert so don't want to lead you astray I will say he gets plenty of development since it is basically target practice. He is very calm in net.

I don't see a thread for Olympic hockey talk here...but figured this was a pseudo-proper board to add this.

Finland announced their Olympic team and I see Jets draft pick - played a number of years with the Ice Caps and Moose - Jussi Olkinuora has been named one of their Goalies :)

He never managed to perform very well in NA, but I see his last 3 years in the KHL have been good.
