I realize you want guys producing at 5v5 but this year we're seeing what an elite PP can do in terms of glossing over some poor play elsewhere

Imagine having a 2nd unit with Barlow in Connor's spot who can regularly contribute

Yes Barlow is great on the power play.

Kevin He and Walton are also having great seasons.

It's still early days and I'm not writing anyone off, but Barlow's in his D+2 year and his scoring has been disappointing aside from the power play - and even his power play numbers aren't setting the world on fire (as opposed to Walton in his D+1 and crushing it on the PP and still making big contributions at ES).

Yeah, he seems to have stalled if not regressed

Last year he was slowed by injury. This year he took quite a while adjusting to his new team.

I'm more concerned about a lack of development in his all around game than about failure to increase his raw scoring numbers.

I wish we had drafted Calum Ritchie instead. Oh well, just wishful thinking.

He did produce with the Moose in his extremely limited time last season (i know, sample size...)

Some player's junior games don't translate well to the pros, and once in a while it's the other way around. We'll find out more next season when he's there full time

I hope that coaching can round out his game once he gets into the Jets system. I think he has the tools to be more than a PP specialist. At least I certainly hope he does.

and almost all from the same spot

Whenever a draftee comes over from Europe to play their D+1 in the Canadian Juniors, I get excited.

My excitement for Lopenen is over.

OK now that it is Jan 1, I would be lying if i didn't say that I was atleast slightly concerned that Walton hasn't been signed to an ELC. I believe Dec 31st was the deadline to sign him to get his ELC to slide for 2 years, makes me wonder what the holdup was to getting it done. I am not panicking but a bit concerned.

I was thinking the same thing. I guess if you're Walton and you've gotten to this point, why not wait a week to sign it?
