Not crazy about Barlow being day-to-day but hasn’t played in weeks. Seems like a bit of a lost season for him if he’s not back soon.

Based on the reports of him having a back injury and him almost being back several times my guess would be that he has a herniated disc. Something that will need surgery but you can play through it on a good day. Might be trying to get to the offseason to get the surgery.

Would that be something that lingers over his career or can it be fixed with surgery? I recognize that every situation is different, but it seems like something that can flare up from time to time in the future.

Julien came alive last playoffs so the slow start was disappointing for us and likely the coaching staff. He needs to keep up this tempo and confidence in the 2nd half and playoffs. He’s a very key piece and line driver at this level. I think he’s likely a bottom 6 guy at the next level, but needs to fill out and utilize his size to his advantage a bit more. He’s a smart kid. Studied/studies engineering

I'd say it's early for that, looking promising for sure. 34 points so far in 30 games, he had 16 in 40 last season.

EDIT: Actually 38 points in 31.

I'm liking his production so far, but I haven't been following close enough to see what his game actually entails. Those goals he scored for his hatty were some of the easiest backdoor tap-in passes that he could get. Good job not flubbing them, but they are hardly moving the needle for me.

Any aspects/skills of his game improve lately? Strength. Speed etc?

If it is a herniated disc then it generally shouldn't be a lingering problem... they resolve themselves through rest and physiotherapy and eventhough herniating a disc once increases the chance of it happening again in the future, it is far from a guarantee and no reason to believe the recurrence will be of the same severity. If it doesn't heal naturally, surgery is an option, Parise had that a few years ago and afaik never had issues again.

I assume they are hoping to avoid surgery via rest, recovery and physiotherapy and hence the "day to day" tag as it is tough to put a timeline on how long it takes to fix with that plan of treatment.

Looks like McGroarty is on track for the World Juniors.

Also, this interesting note that indicates that McGroarty's injury was ribs and lung. That makes sense, considering his long hospitalization. Also, the hospital picture showed him with a pulse oxymeter, measuring oxygen saturation, which fits the lung injury.

He didn't even need to play through a play-off round before being diagnosed with a punctured lung. I'm glad it was something suitably mechanical like that and not tailbone or spinal injury like some were hypothesizing.

Agree. Though rib and lung injuries are no picnic, they rarely have long-lasting impacts on sports performance.

Salomonsson leads all d-men on his team with 60.49% Corsi and 62.37 Fenwick on what looks like 2nd pairing deployment. Moritz Seider had similar advanced stats in his D+2 season the SHL (but had better point totals)

It's just too bad that he gets 0 PP time. Hopefully he comes over to the Moose at the end of this season. Doesn't seem like he has anything else left to prove defensively in the SHL. Kinda wish he was on the Moose right now getting PP minutes. Also has the best Points/60 at even strength on his team among d-men (although no D on that team is producing a ton offensively at evens not even Sandin-Pellika).

Hopefully he gets some PP mins at WJC... although with Sandin-Pellika on the team, I doubt it, maybe some 2nd unit mins?

Engineering not entomology!!!

I met some students that were studying engineering that weren't that smart at all.

I had plenty of those in my 1st year of Engineering.

I remember one of my classmates relaying a story a prof once said in a 1st year class:

"Look to your left. Now look to your right. Only one of you will make it all the way through."

It's actually 1 in 4 and only a small fraction of those do it in 4 years.

Some Jets prospects doing things for the Moose in their 6-4 win this afternoon:

Multi-point game:

Brad Lambert 1G 1A
Dmitry Kuzmin 2A
Nikita Chibrikov 2A
Tyrel Bauer 2A
Chaz Lucius 1A

Would love to see what kind of roll Lucius can get on if he’s staying heathy. He seems to be playing well. Being in Winnipeg around their medical staff is likely a big plus for him so they can get ahead of anything he needs to.

Here’s hoping 2024 brings good health to him.

In the prospects' tournament I mentioned that on a line that included Barlow-Lucius-Chibrikov Chibrikov was the only one that I saw as a play driver. I see Lucius as a play driver now. He doesn't wow you the same way but he also doesn't frustrate you the same way. He just pushes the play in the right direction and then knows where to be to cap it off. He's a very smart and tidy player.
