Agreed. The only hope I see for us to bite the bullet and do an actual rebuild. Move the pending UFAs for picks and prospects and let the team bottom out to get some elite top 5 picks. People will have to accept that it will be painful and the best possible hope to get back to contention would be 5-7 years away. If it’s time to move on from the current core let’s at least try and do it right.

Agree with everything except - just maybe - the timeline. If done right, we should be starting in a much stronger position than many other orgs that have entered a rebuild. Between our current prospects and the trade returns we could turn around pretty quickly with the addition of a few top 5-10 picks. It might very well still take 7 years but I am more optimistic than that - IF it is done well. It could be more like 3-5 years. By the time it happens, it still might feel like it has been 7-10 though.

I think Chevy has left it too long to get young top line players back. Our pending UFAs will likely bring back a Trouba type return. A mid round pick and a prospect or young player that the other team doesn’t consider part of their core. Better that than aging players on bad contracts.

Dubois will be the Trouba comparison. The others should do better than that. Not young top line players though.

I agree. I'm not sure the returns for near 30 year old pending UFAs will be what some folks think they are. Plus the back end is as bad except no one is taking Schmidt or Pionk without getting a sweetener.

It's kind of a mess really.

I guess I should clarify. We need to get four or five more top line calibre players in here from the returns of our departing guys and our own picks. To me that includes the picks we are getting back as well.

They may not be top liners for 4, 5, 6 years... but getting those calibre of players back is how we can nail this retool thing.

Scheifele for a young C and a 1st

Dubois for a player a prospect and the Florida 1st

Hopefully Helle stays but if not he should net the biggest return

If we can get back a couple top liners through the Scheifele and PLD trades we will be in good shape. Tall order perhaps.

We might move Schmidt and/or Pionk without a sweetener by retaining. Not sure the return would be much at that point but maybe at 50-75% of contract they are worth something. Schmidt's play has actually been pretty good I think, just not up to his contract. Pionk came through pretty well when JoMo got hurt. That might have helped resuscitate his value a bit.

Maybe we move Dillon for a decent return, promote Snerg and let Ville and Chisholm fight it out for the 3LD spot. The right side may need to wait another year or two for help.

Scheifele to Detroit for Kaspar and #17 ( I don’t think you get both Kaspar and #9)

Dubois to Montreal for Dvorak, Florida 1st and either Beck or Roy

Helleybuyck to Buffalo for Pekka LuuKkonen, Ostlund and #13

Jets would hold picks #13, #17, #18 and #32:naughty: hopefully

Lambert sure is dynamic - blazing speed and deft puck handling.

He plays a very risky game though.
Agree. He's only 19, so he'll need to learn to avoid high-risk passes. I think that is easy enough to fix.

Also, he is very lanky, and will be a different player once he adds some strength and size. Good that he'll work out with Roberts again, just to build strength and endurance. He has all the skills to be a play driver and playmaker. At this point, it depends only on how hard he works to take the next steps. Sounds like he's willing to put in the work.
