I dunno...that 14-15 core was pretty young and deep. Skill players 30 or younger were Enstrom, Buff, Ladd, Wheeler, Little, Frolik, Perreault, Schiefele and Trouba. The only big drawback was goaltending...which was fixed by Hellebuyck. Plus between 14-15 and 17-18 the Jets added Ehlers, Connor and Laine to the skilled player camp, and Lowry, Copp, Tanev and Armia for depth (although they lost Ladd and Frolik).
I don't think we're nearly as skilled or deep as in 2014-2018. The core skill guys under 30 are Morrissey, Ehlers, Connor, Dubois, Niederreiter, Perfetti, Samberg and Pionk. Depth is Barron, Lowry, Appleton, Dillon, Schmidt? I guess some players will be traded...remains to be seen when and how much impact we'll get out of the trades.
Who's going to make the jump in the next 2 seasons to have an impact? Lambert, Lucius, McGroarty, Chibrikov?
I mean, are any of the 4 players drafted over the last couple of years going to be equivalent to 2017-18 Laine (44g, 26a) or Connor (31g, 26a) or Ehlers (29g, 31a)?
I just don't think it lines up...a major retool is needed and a lot of picks are going to have to turn into home runs.
