Leon Gawanke goes home. Good for him. He's been adequate, but he effectively reached his ceiling in North America.

Lol I had a feeling they'd sign him. It was just too much of a fit and Mannheim had a let-down season and everytime they do (they kind of are the Yankees, Lakers or Maple Leafs of the DEL by the 'expecting at least finals every year' aspects of things), they respond by spending on the biggest available NHL/AHL tweener talents, focusing mainly on German players. Gawanke being the most obvious target this time. They have the most money in the league because SAP.

Well at least I'm gonna have one player to care about when watching the next Adler game in the SAP Arena

I'm already in conctact by the guy I commentated the 1st division women team in Mannheim web stream with, he has a Adler Mannheim fan podcast and would like to get Moose insider reports for Gawanke.

Can you guys help me? I mean I think I know the most important things but I never actually watched one Moose game this season.

My report would sound like this:

"Leon is a decent skater for his size but nothing great. He has a NHL level shot from the blue line and when joining the O but wether or not he'll get that shot regularly through NHL defenseman and especially NHL goaltenders obviously needs to be proven. Other than that he has a good pass but can't necessarily be considered a puck-moving-D (right?). His positioning is below average and will probably be exposed badly in the NHL because he won't be able to make up for it through outstanding hockey IQ or meaningful physicality. He gets turned rather easily (I think?). He can totally still develop into a NHL calibre defenseman as he's only 23 years old but the odds are against him."

I think him going to the DEL for multiple years will only worsen his weaknesses because the DEL isn't necessarily the league with the most talented forwards lighting the league up which might lead to him developing an even worse defensive overall game. I actually think in regards of pure forward talent, it might be a full step behind swedish, finnish and the swiss league

To give you guys a perspective:

Spencer Machacek was sixth best DEL scorer in the regular season with 55 points in 55 GP
JC Lipon was 32nd best scorer with 41 points in 55 GP
Dawes (38 by now) had 24 points in 36 GP

Woot! Go Lambert Go!

And I hope this helps a few people here understand and accept why our many Finnish posters were Laine fans first and Jets fans second... or not at all. Who knows, one day Lambert might bring them all back. Wouldn't that be great? I miss those guys.
At least they wont be arguing ad nauseam about his poor skating

This was posted over in the ice thread. Pretty good comments on Lambert

Article talks about him playing centre again. I hope the Jets try both Lambert and Lucius at centre for the Moose. You can't have enough centres, and if the Jets could get 2 centres out of Perfetti, Lambert, and Lucius, it puts the team in a better position IMO.

Yup, no harm in trying it.

Not happy with our effort the first two periods. Can’t play like that against a team like the ice. :

Strong 3rd period and hopefully the boys can build on it
I was in the stands tonight and it was a bit of a strange game. There wasn't much flow while the Ice built up their lead. Seattle really should have tied it 6 on 5 though. They had 3 or 4 grade A chances.

I'm really excited for Lambert though. Him and Savoie are both a step above everyone else in my mind. They are modern Cs that are just so smooth and smart on the ice. I found myself secretly hoping Seattle would tie it.

I thought Lambert was way to tentative the first two periods, maybe it was the nerves of playing in his future NHL rink again. He upped his game and assertiveness in the third and was very good. He's much more patient and deliberate with the Puck now then he was earlier in the year. He also uses his teammates better. One thing he is going to have to work on is his shot, it's average even among junior players.

I liked Savoie's game. He uses his speed well but may have been a bit rusty having not played in a week due to the Ice wrapping it up early. He's my number one target from Buffalo if they want Helle.

I agree with this assessment. Lambert was much better in the 3rd than in the first two periods. He has such dynamic speed and mobility with puck control. In the 3rd he started to show it.

I thought Benson was better than Savoie last night. He's such a smart player. Reminds me a bit of Perfetti, but with a stockier build and a bit better skating.

I disagree with your assessment of his shot, he has a very accurate wrist shot and a quick release. His slap shot, i can not comment on.

We can disagree on that.
I think the goals I have seen from Brad, the velocity on the wrister is definitely not NHL elite. He scores a lot on them though, so he might have something going for him on accuracy and release. It'll be interesting to monitor going forward.

Really nice to have very encouraging years for Lambert, McGroarty, and Lucius (in spite of his injury).

On Chaz, I'm slightly more positive that, having undergone surgery on his shoulder, he may not have recurring issues with it. I'll leave it to the HF orthopedic surgeons and physios to offer the final word on that theory, though.
