Lol, love how quickly and ignorantly some will try to discredit Maurice when his coaching has impact.

He wasn’t forced into anything, could have left the first line intact, could have slid Rosie into the middle on the second line, and he definitely wasn’t forced into changing the PP units.

He choose to change them up, and by changing up he completely flipped everything. None of you were suggesting anything close to the line configs we saw last night, other than breaking up Wheeler and Scheif

He wasnt forced by anything , they were his choices.
Oh ya, you still need to fire PoMo and his minions.
This has not changed.

Things that impressed me with this win

I really liked the play of this Luoto - like to see more of him, and could be a great replacement for a Tanev type player --which we need. I never heard of him, but he made an impact on that game.
The Jets have go to fit him in and see what he can do.

Good thoughts!

After a real bad first the team played two pretty nice periods. It makes a world.of difference when you can gain the zone with speed and then go straight to the net.

Helle was really good again.

JoMo with his second solid game in a row hopefully he has turned a corner. Poolman with perhaps his best NHL game.

Pionk was solid but Kuli was a mess with his net front coverage.

The bottom pairing was a mess. Get rid of Psia please.

The Scheifele line took a while to really get going but played very well from about the mid point of the game. I want to see more of it.

The second line needs to shoot when in grade A positions. They got far too cute at times. I do really like how fast they are and how well they gain the zone. Roslovic is playing really well.

Third line did what the third line does.

Gus was good again and the others were ok on the fourth.

Solid win

The Hellebuyck Jets.

As goes Hellebuyck, so go the Jets.

Great win. Takes injuries to split up Wheels and Nickels. Ridiculous, but thats on Mo.

Laine is so much better when he is shoot first. Keep it up Patty.
Why is this such a meme? Little was injured earlier this season and Maurice did not split up 55 and 26. I think it's mainly been stubbornness but what finally convinced Maurice to make the move is the Jets simply were not scoring. If we were still scoring 3+ goals a game, it would have never happened even with the injury.

I love seeing Patty crank em up again. He keeps felling players with that shot and it's going to open up so much. Shooting lanes will open up and fake shots for passes will be more successful. Laine is slowly rounding into an elite player - what we were all hoping for.

I like Wheeler at centre, I mean he's a better right wing, but Wheeler at centre seems to be working out very well for us right now.

Myers' game seems to work better with Travis Green's system with the Canucks.

Not too many weaknesses to talk about last night.

Kulikov unfortunately was one of them. I really want him to succeed but man right now, he's slow to pucks, slow to react, and slow to make decisions. I'd take Sbisa or Bitteto over him right now.

Beaulieu, aside from his horrid giveaway on that ill advised switch was decent and continues to get back up to game speed.

For what Sbisa is, he's been pretty solid. Our problem, obviously, is we have too many 6/7 guys. When Heinola was with the team, I didn't mind Niku on the Moose as we would simply be too physically overmatched with Morrissey, Pionk, Heinola and Niku all playing. With Ville heading back overseas, it's time to bring Sami back up. For me, Dahlstrom and Kulikov are our weakest D, and with Niku up and Beau back, we can limit exposure with any of our bottom guys. Unfortunately, knowing Maurice and Kulikov's contract, he will be a regular if he's healthy. That means we have a real glut of PB guys and I'm not sure what the team is going to do. Maybe waivers for a couple?

Morrissey - Niku
Beaulieu - Pionk
Kulikov -Poolman

I'd honestly rather have Bitteto playing on that bottom pair and Kuli sitting.

Forwards looked so dynamic and creative. Really exciting to see that make a return after a very slow, boring bunch of games from them this year. Hope Maurice can resist the temptation to put 55 and 26 back together again.

Both the PP and PK looked a lot more active and that led to success.

Of course, the Canucks looked tired and that probably helped the Jets out.

I hate to beat a dead horse but...6m per year for 5 more years for Myers...oy vey.
I love confirmation bias. Myers had a bad bobble at a critical time against a very dangerous player - but he made a lot of good plays in that game. He probably prevented one or two goals with superb defense.

He's not worth 6 MM but man people love to dump on players and not give any credit where credit is due.

The seats definitely filled up once the period started.

I noticed that in between intermissions fans were super slow to get back to their seats even 5 minutes into each period.
It is weird that fans that pay big money for lower bowl tickets do not give 2 f***s about seeing the whole game.

When 5 minutes left in the game on what was a expected win fans were running for the doors.

The Upper Deck was packed for the whole game.
That is where most of the real fans are that want to watch the whole game.

Where the Helly haters now?
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

After the pre season and first couple games of this season, I was openly questioning who Hellebuyck really was as a goalie: an average starter, or a vezina caliber guy. We've seen both from him. That does not mean I am a 'Hellebuyck hater'. As a matter of fact, as anyone on here will tell you, I don't hate any Jet, and I try to find the good in any player who throws on a Jets jersey.

Since then (outside of the Ducks game) Hellebuyck is back to Vezina form. Hearing that he has the best save percentage for high danger chances in the league is pretty exciting (and also telling about our team).

Probably should quote a post that actually dumps on him more so then the actual contract that was the real issue.

That sequence where Ehlers basically broke his ankles and then Myers breaks Ehlers back was something else. My emotions went from immediate huge anticipation for a potential goal to anger and concern quicker then turning on a light.

Haha yeah. That was a penalty and it shocked me that it wasn't called.

Years ago, you could trip a player as long as you contacted the puck with your stick first, but they changed that rule 2 years ago I think? Myers stick tripped Ehlers at a dangerous time, but it was pretty impressive that he made such great contact with the puck after falling.

Taking up about 15 feet of space with a stick at once can do that.

Didn’t get to see the game and the comments make me realize I missed a good one. I pvr’d it so I’ll try to get to it today.

so glad to hear that some changes made a difference. I’d love to see the roster optimized permanently.

Pionk is a very smart hockey player , very good at playing the puck in tight quarters and is a very good skater . Good job Chevy , good job especially with Trouba only willing to go to one friggen team . :thumbu:

Correct me if I'm wrong (like THAT needs to be said in this forum), but there was an article in the New York Post that reported Jake was willing to go to any of the 3 teams that would be within 25-50 miles of where his fiancée would be in medical school. Unfortunately, I didn't bring the newspaper home with me.

I can definitely agree that when Jets fans are seeing Hellebuyck suck and give up multiple soft goals in a game like he did in the preseason and early this season that it is more than okay to call him out on it.

He has been owning the net so far now so he will easily get praised for quality goal tending.

Couple of thoughts....

I really wish Scheifele played in his own end the way he does down low in the offensive end. Same with Connor.

Ehlers- Roslovic looks like a very good thing, and Wheeler looked solid in the middle.

Kulikov really struggled. The problem with most of our LHD is lack of consistency. Kulikov, Beaulieu, Sbisa, Bitetto, Dahlstrom can all have good periods or games, but they have way too many bad shifts, periods, games to be more than 3rd pairing or below. Hard to see how Niku or even Stanley wouldn't be an option this year. Focus on assessment and development of young D, not treading water with 5 replacement level D.

Pionk does a lot of things well, but he needs to find a way of neutralizing bigger forwards when they have puck possession. Trouba, Buff and even Myers were able to neutralize and create turnovers when they encountered opposing forwards due to size and reach. Pionk needs to find ways of doing this better despite size differences. Maybe he should watch more tape of Enstrom, or emulate Morrissey.

Yeh Scheif and Connor together in our zone is a bit scary.

I think this was a case of almost any change being an improvement. So the new lines and new PP worked. I don't think things are optimized yet but it is some steps in the right direction.

Our D still gave up some scary chances but Helle managed to take care of them. We are still seeing our experienced, veteran D men making mental mistakes - but no one is perfect.

All-in-all, I think this team is starting to come together. As long as Helle can keep bailing us out a few times a game we should be able to hold our own.
