The only problem I had with tonight's game was Wheeler ... seriously how many times did he give the puck away. A bounce here or there the Jets could of won easily ... instead of 2-0 its 1-1 s**t happens.
How many breakaways did the Jets have?
I'm not worried about Calgary ... they don't look like a playoff team.
Grandpa Wheeler still being used in top 6. Why not flip him and Nino? W

Not at all surprised with this outcome. This team is bipolar and just when they have many believing they have heart and can show up and make a statement that they belong in the playoffs, they drop a turd.

Next they’re going to be snake bitten by Saros who likes to stand on his head and make 40 saves a night and then try and beat Vezina candidate Reimer.

GOOD LUCK after that in the final 2 games. Probably won’t matter as they’ll be put out of their misery by then.

Jets have to do whatever they can to move Schmidt, and either Pionk or Dillon in the offseason, what they get back is anyone's guess. The forward group will all depend on PLD, not sure what's going on with Scheifele but his play doesn't strike me as guy who wants to give it his all game in game out and a change of scenery might be warranted. Wheeler will probably be here for his last year contract wise. The guy I worry about the most is KFC who essentially is a one dimensional player and if he ain't scoring he ain't doing much but I'm not saying we should be looking to deal him rather I hoping with some good pick ups his game and scoring will rebound next year.

Honestly, I think TNSE needs this kick in the nads.
Barely getting in is not going to move the needle in the front office.

Imagine the utter crap that going to come out of the GM and players mouths if we miss?
Nothing but tired cliches and excuses.

If you had asked most people at the start of the year who would be better between the Jets and the Flames I think most people would have said the Flames. And you get to a crucial battle with the Flames and find out that the Flames are better.

I think there will be a lot of disagreement as to why.

For me it's defense. If I had a choice between the Flames defense and ours, I would take theirs each and every day. Josh Morrissey makes up some difference, but let's face it Nikita Zadorov was better than Brendon Dillon tonight by a country mile. And he's a 3rd pairing d-man.

And so for two teams who were in this same battle 3 years ago to meet again, and the weakness then for the Jets was defense, tonight the Jets showed why they are still not good enough.

Scheifele and Connor with the -3 tonight will be the prime targets. I really didn't like the way Connor played a 3-2 rush that could have been a 2-0 situation, in which he wasn't a part of until he jumped behind the goal line and turned over the puck creating a 2 on 1 from his own blueline. Good defensive teams don't break down like that, they read the play. And play it smart.

2nd goal I guess Bowness feels good with Scheifele winning draws to put him out at the end of a successful PK, but that's the GWG there in which a lot of people were watching the play, while the 4th line of Calgary made a play.

3rd goal got Dubois benched for a shift when his guy Zadorov beat him up the ice, after he stopped moving his feet in the zone earlier in the shift. The way she works sometimes, Dubois could have easily been a hero with some finish, Schmidt too, but these guys don't have the killer instinct.

It's a familiar story, and it's disappointing for sure.

I would love to see the Jets man up and win the next two which could still knock out the dirty Flames, but I think Cody Glass could very well be a hero next game, with a lot of heart. This team put in a good effort, and it was an intense and entertaining game. I just think the Jets don't have it, winners find a way to win, and I guess if you aren't a winner, well...golf season isn't that far away.

Only thing that can save this season is that we win the lottory and get a top-6 pick. Otherwise this season is a waste.
But we should be able to recoup the pick on Nino..

Really you would take the Flames D over the Jets?
How many breakaways did the Jets have on the better Flames D?
Too many to count.
As for Dillion ... he played that 2 on 1 perfect he even gave room for Backlund to shoot on Helly but Backlund made a perfect pass and than it was a perfect shot . If the Jets scored to make it 2-0 than goal never happens. The GWG goes on the skate of the Jets D.
The Jets problems remains the same ... its the fricken PP that is killing the Jets. Keep Wheeler OFF the PP and limit his time to 10 mins.

As a 1-6 absolutely. Their defense made mistakes, but they covered a lot of ice and they wore down the Jets forwards. You could say the Flames forwards wore down the Jets defense to win that game.

Brendon Dillon played like shit all game. 2-1 the only thing you have to defend is the pass, and he got caught looking at the puck...O offensive IQ, penalties, turnovers. Luckily Neal Pionk had a strong game.

PP wasn't good after the first goal. You could cite a number of efforts on that, guys that make poor puck decisions. Wheeler was definitely one of them, but I think Wheeler deserves credit for setting up some grade A chances tonight. He's still a great passer but the rest of his game is painful to watch. Watching him labour off the ice after a hard shift isn't the Wheeler we all knew...but that still doesn't change that the top line got outscored in a pivotal game. Those are your gamebreakers being broken down.

Helle played more than well enough to win. You don’t win many when you only put up 1 and go 0/100000 on the PP.
ok look. lets be real here. 4 pucks got past him, he got fortunate on one to have it called back, and on the other end of the ice markstrom was lights out and totally outplayed him. markstrom stopped 2 breakaways, a 3 on 1 and a 2 on 1. not to mention a bunch of other high end saves. if he plays average were celebrating knocking the flames down tonight.

can we please stop with this song and dance where we have to pretend helley cant also have an off night like the skaters did? im not trying to hate on helley, just keeping it real

Wheeler has his faults, but this was not the game to single him out.

The fact that you go out of your way to say Helly gave up 4 goals when he was clearly interfered with one a goal that WAS CALLED BACK, and another that went off his own player shows your extreme bias and ignorance. Frankly everyone is over your hate of goalies and criticism that is rarely warranted as you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about or are either trolling. We could have the worst 5 man unit on the ice every shift with a vezina caliber goalie, lose 2-1, and you’d still blame the goalie.

Your Mind
Losing to Calgary when they lost night before to Chicago at home is just sad.
This team deserves to miss the playoffs because of this game alone.

Better team won

Flames with more heart, better D, better goaltending

Schief, Connors and PLD MIA mostly

Jets little D couldn’t handle the big Flames forwards

Lowry best Jet

wheezer dressed
As I said before, they're playing to be traded 1st. PLD looks like a better player overall, Chef seems like he might clearly better at other things; but both are history. Now lets not fawk this up Chevz, trade hard like you are sponsored from Scotty toilet paper.

Very disappointing, the main problem with this team is the PP , shoot the puck, teams wouldn't play chippy if we had a deadly PP but teams know our PP is a joke so they aren't scared of taking a penalty here and there. Still we had enough opportunities to put this game away and their goalie made alot of nice stops. Going to be a hard clench these next 4 games but i still think this team can make it in, never give up hope people.

Well, there's another opportunity squandered. The Jets continue to impress with their ability to not step up in statement (not to mention consequential) games. People can do the math and pretend this wasn't "all that important" if they want, but losing that 4 point game in the circumstances the team is currently in, given the past 6 weeks or so of futility...it really says a lot about what this assembly of players is made/capable of.

They talked about it at the start of the broadcast last night - we're on the precipice of the most collosal collapse in NHL history. No team that was in the Jets position at the half way point of the season has ever ended up missing the playoffs. There's a part of me that almost hopes we achieve that milestone.

Wheeler did give the puck away alot last night and looked very tired every time he was on the ice. We didn't lose because of Wheeler but he didn't help much either. Scheifele wasn't good last night, Scheifele over 21 minutes and Ehlers didn't even have 15 minutes, Dubois not even 18 minutes, that's a problem.

There were a few times that Markstrom was flopping around with a wide open net but we failed to take advantage of it.

On the PP front, we went 1/5. What, you wanted 2/5, a 40% ratio otherwise you’re going to moan?

Come on, guys.

He didn't really have an off night though?

The goalie at the other end played very, very well. That doesn't mean Hellebuyck had an "off night", it just means the other guy was better tonight. If I bowl a 280 and the other guy does a 290, that doesn't mean I had an "off night".

Also, there was nothing fortunate about the goal being called off, it was clearly interference.
