Alright if you want to go on to this track with me, would you point a finger to the person who's fault it mostly was that the team didn't even get past first round last season? Who's fault was it when they didn't make past the Vegas (that had a margin of the firepower and all-around strengths as far as defence and offence is concerned) just year before and advance to the Finals? Oh and would you mind pointing at these major gaps the team had roster-wise these two prior seasons? Yeah, this man has a lot to answer for, doesn't matter if he doesn't have an All-Star level goalkeeping, defence and forwards at his disposal every time he enters a new season, he mostly manages to get the least out of all the assets at hand as opposed to the opposite, which you know, is kinda the purpose and what he was hired in to do.
At the very least they play games too close together but ya cutting back to 70 games would work especially when the playoffs are so long . After the Vegas series i needed a break from watching hockey and we still had a round to go to win the Cup .Last night the proof the NHL plays too many games on full display, Jets disinterested and gave a 60% effort!
I'm glad you say that but it sure seems like some people do think that of Maurice .It's not about finnish players, it happens no matter who's the third guy on that line. A game not going well? Lets swap and hope for a miracle.
It usually comes down to goaltending , get a hot goalie and you can win alot of playoff games .I don't think there is one reason or one man at fault. Often in those playoff games it comes down to puck luck or a goaltender making a key save here or there. I didn't have a chance to watch so much of the Blues series, but I did watch the Vegas series, which IMO all of those games were incredibly close both in terms of the score and on ice, either team could really have won that series.
Once you get the team to the playoffs, as we saw this year, anything can really happen. Toronto, Pittsburgh, San Jose, Tampa and Nashville all had at least Winnipeg level rosters and lost out early. I don't think all these teams have useless coaches. I really think playoff success isn't a very good measurement in the modern NHL.
Maybe we were just missing Helly .This is on the goalie and the players. Line combos or an 18 yr old Dmen wouldn't have made our goalie better or kept the motivation in our guys. We just got discouraged early in the 3rd just like we did to Jersey. It Happens, no additional hair pulling needed.
That said, Laine was last years guy.
Connor plays tiny.
Morrissey misses Trouba
PP misses Buff / Myers and Trouba
We lack motivational grit
We aren't icing our best team yet.
It is mind numbing how just the young guys get moved around or scratched. Never the vets. This shows too with the Lowry line in how they have been together all year too.Now to the game last night...........
As I have said even after our wins this is going to be a pretty crazy season so enjoy the wins when they come.
Everything that could go stone went wrong last night as even the bounces. Thankfully that only counted as one loss .
Turn the page and run don’t walk to the next game.
Message to Paul: last night the team handed you the perfect excuse to rotate your line up again and get the kids out of the press box and move a few of the waiver wire and league minimum types up to the PB for some popcorn for a stretch.
You need to stop trying to watch the Jets then , just watch the highlights and come here for your info .
I agree , Maurice doesn't need both Testube and Bourque in the lineup . Hopefully when Little returns that takes Testube out of the lineup .A few observations from last night and in general..
1. I generally view the first 10 games of the season as an exhibition season where pace and quality of play van vary nightly but increases greatly over that period. I try not to react to individual games until after that period. Getting through it 6-4, would be a more than satisfactory.
2. Last night was not a 7-2 game. It was an even game 5v5 and our special teams were poor. We were the vicitm of significant puck luck as well.
3. That said, Wheeler, Laine, and Brossoit were not sharp. Morrissey seemed flat as well.
4. Have really been impressed by Roslovic so far this year and he was our best player last night.
5. Wheeler is losing his abilty to drive play, I fear. If you want him away from Scheifele, his best home is likely with two of 85/17/9. I'm fine with 29 and 27 rotating on the 55/26 line.
6. Felt sorry for Scheifele last night. He'd come through the neutral zone on his own and be the dumper and the chaser. Only support he got in the corner was occasionally 29, but he'd invariably anticipate the wrong direction of puck movement.
7. You say Bitetto, i say potato.
8. A lot of pucks died on Copp's stick last night, but he was all over the ice...he must cover more ice than anyone else on a nightly basis.
9. Is Little ready to go or is this a 3 month thing?
10. The pace of these games ramping up can be overwhelming for an 18 year-old kid, and I am fine with him getting some PB time to take it in. One of Sammy or Willy should come in for Bitetto though. I'm fine giving Dahlstrom a longer look.
The part where is too bad is there are guys still out there looking for jobs that could have had a PTO or still could sign for nothing but Chevy went with these two guys.I agree , Maurice doesn't need both Testube and Bourque in the lineup . Hopefully when Little returns that takes Testube out of the lineup .
I am not sure how I got to 10 without mentioning Testube. Hopefully Little comes in for him. But there are a half dozen Moose I'd have in the lineup over him. Off the top of my head, my preferences for Letsestu's spot are Little, Gus, Luoko, Shaw, Harkins, Chibisov, Seuss, Griffin, Spacek and Vesalainen (when he gets his ass in gear).I agree , Maurice doesn't need both Testube and Bourque in the lineup . Suess had a nice preseason. He may be first recall.I am not sure how I got to 10 without mentioning Testube. Hopefully Little comes in for him. The one positive with the Lowry line scrubs is that Rosolvic has gotten more TOI and has played better. Shocker what ice time and confidence can do. When we get Little back I our lines should have nice balance. I hope Vesa can start gaining confidence and playing well with the Moose as he would look great with Lowry and Copp by season's end.
Jmo will get going. He’s off to a slow start in general. I like him on PP1.Hurts to say but the PP at its current state could use Ristolainen..... if he could be acquired without giving up anyone from the top 6. Morrissey is a great player but he's not working out on PP.
Yeah. I'd have him higher, if the top of my head was more reliable.Suess had a nice preseason. He may be first recall.
Unless he can change the side he shoots from he'll never be fine there. It's not his fault, just the way it goes.Jmo will get going. He’s off to a slow start in general. I like him on PP1.
Good post Gil.
Jmo looks a little off to start the year no doubt.
Our PP stinks but will get better as those goals come in bunches. Im more worried about the stagnant PK with slow guys like Lowry, Bourque, Letestu on it. Funny how guys aren't good enough for 5vs5 ice but they get put out when we are down a man. Make any sense? We need quick guys on the PP, try out Connor and Apples with Copp, Little and Scheif on the PK. Speed and pressure is the key.
