The best part of this game is that my remaining braincell managed to make the decision to go to bed after 2 periods. Will not stay up all night for this kind of performances any longer but instead watch the games in the morning after seeing the result.

This game triggered my ptsd from last year. 1st line bleeding goals, Laine
looking like his not completely in the game (nowhere near as bad as last year but still), goaltending being bad, pp1 not being able to get anything going and only thing Maurice does is the old left winger switcheroo.

But have to remember this was a b2b game and it has been a hectic schedule to start the season. Feel bad for the kid that gave up disney land for this thouhg haha

PP1 needs zone entries badly. Put Ehlers on it.
Our PP has let more shorthanded goals against than it has scored goals!!! That has to be some kind of NHL "record".

There was a moment at the end of the game camera zooming to Nik on a bench. His empty gaze and mime on his face told everything relevant about the game that time. It was like watching a beaten dog in a dog house during heavy rain, who had been just most active, innovative, interested, and joyful puppy of the entire kennel earlier that day. That one who had brought most balls back, dug most bones into to a yard, and waving his tail most enthusiastically.

Nik must learn to avoid drawing those damn PPs for Jets. His more privileged, yet passive fellas will f* up them anyway, he having no role in that.

The sole reason? I mean before the season when it was announced Buff was gone, the hockey analysts I follow predicted no playoffs for the Jets. You can't lose three core defensemen and not have it affect the net result. If the team makes the playoffs with this defense, it's an overachievement. Missing the playoffs by a slight margin would IMO be an expected result.

Alright if you want to go on to this track with me, would you point a finger to the person who's fault it mostly was that the team didn't even get past first round last season? Who's fault was it when they didn't make past the Vegas (that had a margin of the firepower and all-around strengths as far as defence and offence is concerned) just year before and advance to the Finals? Oh and would you mind pointing at these major gaps the team had roster-wise these two prior seasons? Yeah, this man has a lot to answer for, doesn't matter if he doesn't have an All-Star level goalkeeping, defence and forwards at his disposal every time he enters a new season, he mostly manages to get the least out of all the assets at hand as opposed to the opposite, which you know, is kinda the purpose and what he was hired in to do.

Going back to the start of last season the Jets have not won a single game when I've had pizza.

I will now adjust my eating decisions to reflect this completely correlated phenomenon.

I wouldn't go that far. Maybe its just about the variety of your pizzas, not in the eating schedule. If 'Fantasia' doesn't work, you could maybe try 'Frutti di mare' or 'Quattro Stagioni'. With latter one you must be however specifically careful as if things won't start working on the ice with that menu, there are increased risk for the whole season going wrong. Some combo of greasy ingredients like bacon, ham, and eggs would help get more tranquillity to aftermaths of bad matches, and adding garlic will help with an immune-resistance, that can get easily lower levels due increased stress accompanied with watching low quality hockey games, plus - its October anyway. There are downside with Frutti di mare too, as that stuff contain that much brain-healthy omega-3 etc. stuff that in a case of abysmal game, you may stuck to a spiral of intensive overanalysing, which is bad because it would be best to just forget whole game. There are other pizza-options too worth to test. If things wouldn't improve with good quality pizzas from a restaurant, then you can downgrade your expectations with industrially mass-produced "pizzas". Cheap, and you don't have to waste time for high culinary experience that contradict dramatically with a perception whats going on on ice. You can add some fresh onions to immerse more fully to the tragedy: tears will flow naturally.

If nothing abovementioned work, just skip eating altogether and concentrate to heavy drinking. More Vol-%s, then better. Desired oblivion comes sooner and much more smoother.

Bon apetit! ;)

P.S. Google 'Pizza Berlusconi', even without eating it, reading about its history may bring a smile on your face.

Looking at the stats --the Jet's only allowed 27 shots against. You have to stop most of them -- maybe except 2 or 3 at the most. It's quite clear, Brossoit is not playing up to last years form. If Helle was in net --it could have been a whole different game ?

He was tracking the puck very slowly last night. Didn’t seem to be moving to well in the crease. Not his night for sure.

True, no need to overreact.

However, I was surprised to not see Heinola and maybe some other guys on ice (Gustafsson, Niku?). B2B should be a good opportunity to play fresh guys.

Paul like every other coach in the NHL (for some mind numbing reason) they all prefer guys who have proven they are predictably bad for large sample sizes. Once a player gets the veteran brand they are often tenured.

When I dig deeper and try to imagine what is behind this group think/tunnel vision for the coaching fraternity I come up with crazy theories:

Is it part of the apprenticeship legacy bias. Every coach is taught by elders and lessons from the past.

Maybe it’s that bad Vets can adapt to a system and they are predictably bad due to lack of talent and although they get outperformed consistently they make less stupid mistakes? I think it drives coaches nuts when young guys don’t follow the plan. They would rather have an old over the hill reliable guy follow the script and get beaten regularly due to lack of talent.

Reliably bad BUT on system with a good personality > better player but more inconsistent system wise.

I don't believe in Jinxes, but how it is possible my overall experience with Jets games I've been able to watch (and being prepared and waiting to watch long before they even start) tend to be someway underwhelming, or straightforwardly bad, to a levels of statistical significance. When I finally managed to find a stable streaming site from a corner of Internet where I can consistently watch whatever NHL-game (among other stuff) for free (only idiots pay for such experiences), I can't see any of those promised things in a rink from anybody of those who motivated me to stay up for the game in the first place.

There is proverb 'Pahanilmanlintu' in Finnish (literally 'A bird of bad weather'). That's just how I feel often with the NHL-experience.

That Winnipeg girl singing national anthems was the highlight of whole last night. She was really good.
You need to stop trying to watch the Jets then , just watch the highlights and come here for your info .

I totally agree with people being frustrated about Maurice's fascination with Scheifele and Wheeler always together , it's goofy but Maurice isn't racist towards Finnish players . Some on here are convinced of this and that's goofy . If he was Laine and Heinola both would be in the press box . Maurice coached Team Europe in the World Cup , he isn't going to do that if he had a hate on for European players . Laine and Heinola are and will be a big part of this team and they are probably both here long after Maurice is gone .
It's not about finnish players, it happens no matter who's the third guy on that line. A game not going well? Lets swap and hope for a miracle.

Brossoit had a bad night. The puck bounces were not in our favor, but still he wasn't good.

Also, we were buttery soft in and around the front of our own goal. I'm afraid a lot of games are going to look like that this year.

Now to the game last night...........

As I have said even after our wins this is going to be a pretty crazy season so enjoy the wins when they come.

Everything that could go wrong went wrong last night as even the bounces. Thankfully that only counted as one loss .

Turn the page and run don’t walk to the next game.

Message to Paul: last night the team handed you the perfect excuse to rotate your line up again and get the kids out of the press box and move a few of the waiver wire and league minimum types up to the PB for some popcorn for a stretch.
