Giveaways/takeaways are an awful stat. Just saying.

Well, then we can pick another one. His Corsi Rel% of -3.2 is the worst of the forwards on the team. His raw Corsi is only better than Lemieux. Despite getting an offensive zone start percentage of 62.5%.

Or we could ignore the fancy stats and just go by that he has 2 goals in the last 21 games. Pick any stat really, he's not playing good hockey.

I just hope it doesn't destroy him in the meantime. People have been known to turn to destructive behaviour when things go bad. But, I'm hoping the Jets offer him the support he needs off the ice as well.

JMO...Laine looks like someone who used their talent to get where they are, but had an easy time of it during the journey. He is now in the best league in the world, and no one is going to make it easy on you.

Yes lets hope he and the team get him to channel the frustration and negative energy in the right direction.

I also agree with you that he probably relied primarily on talent and everything really went his way the first two years in the league.

Never said he was?

2 goals in 21 is all that really matters. We wouldn’t be having this convo if Laine wires home a few of those onetime chances.

Seems like the game was 5 seconds long. Don't see anyone mentioning Little tonight. Can you describe even one play involving Little? He was a ghost. Scheifele and Wheeler were not good, and any one of their giveaways or soft plays could have cost the Jets a goal.

The puck bobbled on Laine with pressure, which happens to Wheeler a half a dozen times a game. The result sucks for Laine.

Your problem is you are concentrating on 1 play.. Im looking at the game as a whole. 29 did not cost us the game.. Could argue 26 going offside did or could argue without 37.. Those 55 giveaways by 55 end up in the back of our net...

U concentrate on 1 play in a game with 100 different ones tho.

I am not sure what you are arguing, most people here criticize Wheeler a crap ton. I have complained about Connor's bad plays more than Laines. No one has an axe to grind against any Jet player.

Did Laine have any shots 5v5 tonight? He was ripping them on the PP but don't recall 5v5 opportunities
Had a couple of good chances, including one from the slot, as I recall. How many chances did Roslovic have? Little?

Lots of faults to be had, but Wheeler's off side is still irking me. How hard can it be to watch the puck go on side before moving your feet???

Laine only deserves a two year, <5M AAV deal to see if he can actually live up to his draft spot.
How hard can it be to put the puck past the blue line, then pull it back? That one was not on Wheeler, though many of them are.

Kind of feel sorry for Laine. He is struggling but too much is being thrown on the kid.

Yea he is playing bad, feeling down on himself, and taking a massive public flogging at pretty much every turn. At this point it’s hard to imagine it ever ending but this too shall pass........pssssst Pate...they will all forget if you have a big May and June.

It's funny how our emotions can be like a roller coaster and change so quickly from one game to another. Everyone was so high after the 9-3 win over Anaheim but now we all are so down after the 3-2 OT loss to San Jose tonight. Such is the life of a Jets fan. :(

I think this board is much more extreme on the roller coaster up and down than the average fan. Around here we love to ride the highs and lows to the greatest extent possible. Kind of makes it fun actually.

Little outside a game or two really is non effective 5v5. Prob is whoever we put with him is tanked as well.

Wheeler is trying his hardest to get Laine to score a goal by over passing to him on the powerplay.

He is even passing it through a crowd of players to get it to Laine which is very noticeable and teams are easily spotting it.

I almost feel a plan today was to get him going. Feeding him over and over on the first powerplay. Putting him on the 4-on-3 etc. Didn't work unfortunately. I feel the only one who can get Laine going right now is Laine.

Low hanging fruit. Nobody is going to rail at Scheifele or Wheeler or Little.
Well, some people do actually.

Laine doesn't earn deflection because other poor plays were made as well. He's too good to be playing the way he is. It's unfortunate that play came at the time it did and carried the consequence it did.

Agreed. The power play is made to service Laine basically. Laine should have had one tonight

oh and for posterity's sake, Chiarot, just because you played 25:30 tonight doesn't mean you're a 25:30 a game Dman:laugh: (No disrespect meant to Chiarot in this GIF theme)

1500 games and he takes laine off the pp with 1min 30 seconds left ppl cry and blame laine that's just karma for stupid coach
Haha ok. Because Laine was lethal tonight. Or at all in the past month.

If he was on that late PP we might have lost in regulation.

The piling on on Laine is too much right now but to blame this loss on the coach is ridiculous.

The coach and Jets have done everything possible to get Laine back on track and he is completely lost out there.

Laine was a -2 tonight and gave up the puck that led to the winning goal in overtime for the Sharks.

This is more than just a slump at this point and is more about how he is playing with and without the puck.
