It's looking more and more that it's next year for Laine, he can't find the net and it just makes the rest of his game look worse than it is, the weight on his shoulders is getting heavier and heavier for a kid who is about to turn 21 he looks lost, Jets need to take control of his off season regiment.
2nd best post I read all night!

Well given that JoMo went down early tonight it wasn't the worst result in the world. Without JoMo and Buff this defense is fairly weak with only Trouba as a legit top pairing guy. Myers and Kuli are solid third pairing guys and Morrow and Chariot are replacement level players and it showed today.

Poor Laine, he is clearly near rock bottom confidence wise and that turnover at the end can't help it at all. The old adage of if it doesn't kill you makes you stronger will be applicable here. While it doesn't seem like it this slump might be a blessing in disguise, given how pissed at himself he is, he likely now knows that he can't just rely on his shot. If he is as dedicated and driven as he says he is, we likely see a very different off season routine by him. Sometimes you need to be humbled in order to really understand what kind of work you need to put in. I am not worried, this is likely a wake up call for a player who's first couple of years likely came a bit too easy.

Roslovic and the third line with good efforts. The fourth line had one of their down games and the first and second lines were up and down.

Helle was great, got the team a point.

There are more issues then Just Laine’s play as of late. I can’t understand why people are so focused on what only he is doing and not the rest of the top guys.

Does no one else get frustrated when wheels and chief caught up the puck, cheat defensively, make bad passes, etc. Sure there great but come on they make just as many mistakes and are never held accountable. Instead they play in every scenario. Time to cut the minutes back as well.

No, because Scheif has almost twice as many takeaways as he has giveaways. 57-30. 1.9 ratio, which is excellent. Wheels is 29-22, which is 1.3. Also pretty good.

Laine has 18 takeaways, 35 giveaways, for a ratio of .5. That's the worst of any forward on the team, tied with Appleton.

In terms of +/- Scheif is +20. Wheels is +11. Laine is -13, the worst on the team. The next worst is Roslovic at -5.

We don't give Scheif and Wheels as much of a hard time because they are a net positive even when they aren't scoring.

I feel badly for Laine. He actually played quite well but everyone will remember his bobble in OT, but not all the gaffes made by Scheifele and Wheeler on the PP, or how Little couldn't make it up and down the ice with energy, presumably due to illness.

Now is when Maurice is going to have to show his chops as a coach and build Laine's confidence. Sitting him would be completely counterproductive.

Helly was excellent and has been for a few games now!
First goal against ducks was weak. But yes when it counts he's been money. But they shouldn't be afraid of playing Croissant to give him some rest for playoffs.

Laine needs a game against a weak team playing with schief and wheels start to finish. If he fails sit him for one to think about it.

Conner and Ehlers get to play with them so why can’t he. He’s down on himself and needs help. Coach needs to at least try. Don’t understand why he’s attached to the hip of little. Blows my mind

Scheifele and Wheeler don't get a pass for tonight game, Trouba's was chef du pizza most of the night, guess Morrissey is a pretty important guy to have as a partner, as other have said Bucky had a hell of a game. 1 point better than none and on to the next one.

Actually I think Mo tried to build his confidence putting him out 4 on 3, not the brightest move by Mo but he is a players coach,

Laine is so snake bit he does not know if he wants to shoot or pass anymore.

When he does shoot it is a mile wide and when he passes it is a turnover.

WTF

The Jets have got to get a handle in the situation. It has not been handled well to this point. As in the last 5-10 games it has not been handled well to this point. He needs to be removed from the high pressure situations. Totally agree the rest of his game is greatly failing because of the lack of scoring.

Giveaways/takeaways are an awful stat. Just saying.

Easy fix, stick Laine with Lowry and Perreault for awhile and cut his ice time.

Before we **** all over laine for this, wheeler and schief both forced passes that should have turned into the same thing. We have no idea how to run a 4 v3 pp.

Wheeler is trying his hardest to get Laine to score a goal by over passing to him on the powerplay.

He is even passing it through a crowd of players to get it to Laine which is very noticeable and teams are easily spotting it.

Sometimes you need to be humbled in order to really understand what kind of work you need to put in. .

I just hope it doesn't destroy him in the meantime. People have been known to turn to destructive behaviour when things go bad. But, I'm hoping the Jets offer him the support he needs off the ice as well.

JMO...Laine looks like someone who used their talent to get where they are, but had an easy time of it during the journey. He is now in the best league in the world, and no one is going to make it easy on you.

The PP is predictable.. . pressure Wheeler.. He folds.. SJ did it all night.

Ppl like to pick out 1 guy here... But i just cant get over how much coasting 55 and 26 are allowed to get away with. 55 literally does nothing in the D zone.. These are your leaders and your kids like Laine see them doing that without consequences. Its got to be tough for mates to see 55 and 26 literally give up on the D zone with zero consequences. Ill say it... We lost this game because our coaching who surprisingly lost his 1500th game overplays 55 and 26 even when they are the 2 biggest floaters on the ice. Losing 44 didnt help as 8 is as dumb as a bag of rocks.
agreed with ev thing except troubas part kid had a great game

Did Laine have any shots 5v5 tonight? He was ripping them on the PP but don't recall 5v5 opportunities

Agreed I think he put Liane in an easy to exceed position and it didn't work out. Getting a shorty against was a worst case result. In a must win game I'm guessing Connor is out there instead.

Thought Myers had a solid game tonight hopeful that it continue's especially with Morrissey going down tonight, and with Buff coming back if he plays the way he is that would be a big help down the stretch, but there has to be a better option than Morrow, Chairot is just above AHL level Morrow is not.

Post-game audio:

Players - Wheeler, Hellebuyck and Perreault.

Coach Maurice scrum topics: On the effort from his club. Any update on Josh Morrissey? What is gonna stand out from game 1500 in the NHL? On the looks the power play got. Would he like to see the rule changed? (on the Jets disallowed goal). On moving Little onto the last power play. On Lowry setting a physical tone.
