Bowness might be a bit sad to know that he has just caused the destruction of an entire city for all time.
He's why Amber Heard lost her case too.

Hey, on the bright side, at least it wasn't Charlie Huddy...

There are still some assistant coaching positions open...

It makes sense. They need someone to come in and shake up the locker room. A young coach would have been eaten alive.

Once the toxicity has been fixed, Bowness leaves, and we bring in a young coach for the next upswing.

I hope we're done waiting for Trotz. If he's fed up with coaching this year and doesn't want to be on the road, he's going to feel that way even more strongly next year after being with his family this year. He'll probably end up in a Nashville management position and will never coach again.

I am fine with this considering the options that were left. Still wanted us to hire Brunette but atleast this guy will make this group play defense, by hook or by crook.

I like Rick Bowness, as he did a lot with a little, in Dallas. I think with the talent the Jets have, he'll do just fine. A lot better than Tochett. I would have preffered Trotz, but Im ok with Bowness.

Barry was my first pick ,but Rick B is a good second pick I like it

Bowness coaches one of the most boring brands of hockey I've ever watched. Flipping pucks out of the defensive zone, dump and chase, zero offensive plan through the neutral zone, defensive shell hockey. Maybe that's what the players need but it's not really what I care to watch for 82 games.

I'm simultaneously underwhelmed and left wondering if Bowness really could be a stopgap. It was no secret that he was considering retirement and absolutely nothing about the Jets roster make-up screams right fit for a coach with one foot out the door. If he is basically an interim coach though what the hell kind of message does that send to the players and fans for the foreseeable future?

"Yeah, we're just gonna wait and see what Trotz wants to do next year. Hopefully he feels like coaching."

Bleh.

could just say they didn't like any of the options they had so they wanted to wait and see next year instead of getting into bed with someone who may not be the right fit

Wasn't expecting Bowness at all, but I would rather have Bowness over Tocchet any day.

Actually more curious as to who the assistants will be and if the Jets see Bowness as being in a mentoring role for one of the assistants moving into the Head coach position in a couple of years.... assuming that Bowness isn't just the "interim" until they can convince Trotz to coach again.

Was Bowness fired in Dallas?

No. His contract expired.

"After careful consideration with my wife Judy, we feel it's best to step away and allow the organization the opportunity to pursue a different direction at the head coaching position," read a statement by Bowness. "I'd like to thank all the passionate fans and the dedicated staff for their support and hard work in my time here. It has been an honor for me, and my family, to represent the Stars and the city of Dallas."

A lot of posters apparently angry that Tocchet or some mysterious “up and comer” wasn’t picked as head coach lol.

Guys, don’t critique when you couldn’t muster one plausible name to coach the Jets.

Uh? No one was happy with Tocchet's rumoured hire. The kindest thing someone said was "I don't hate it.". I would have been happy with Vincent or Montgomery. I wanted to see someone with an up-tempo style that coached transition offense. I didn't want to see a defense first, black hole offense coach that Bowness is. I wanted someone that didn't prescribe to a top-6/bottom-6 style of coaching.

Can't say I'm excited about this hire but I suppose there's nothing to do but wait and see how it shakes out. As some other posters have said, this doesn't feel like a longterm move. Even if the team finds some success, I can't say I see Bowness coaching 3 years from now.

I think posters here would be upset regardless of who was picked and lament that the Jets didn’t hire an “up and coming” coach that they failed to actually name.

Vincent? Feels like a lot of people would have been ok giving him a shot.

Would rather have seen Carlyle or Tocchet over Vincent any and every day of the week and I didn't want to see either of them hired.

Maybe this move is to try and keep Wheeler?

Bowness let’s the vets run the room. Always has.
quote from murat: "Winnipeg wanted a veteran coach who would not be afraid to challenge the Jets' leadership. He was certainly not afraid to do so in Dallas, challenging Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, among others, when they were not meeting expectations."

and why would we even need a coach to try to keep wheeler? his contract may be hard to move as is...
