Yup. Our goal scoring was real good when it was

connor-dubois-scheifele
ehlers-names-wheeler
nino-lowry-appleton

id keep rolling like that.

nino has been a god-send to this team imo. his versatility, generating scoring chances, scoring, physicality etc all make him suitable forward anywhere and with anyone. can play with skill or grind-happy players effectively w/o much, if any, drop-off
Totally agree, i watched alot of the Carolina games last playoffs and he stood out every game because of his hustle and hard work. Just a absolute steal by Chevy for a 2nd round pick and we have him under contract next season too .

Yup I think that was one of the reasons that Bones was elevating Cole past Ehelers on the depth chart. Cole and the rest of the top 6 can play how Bones prefers. Nik while being an excellent player doesn't play as direct/predictable hockey. It's why his minutes always rate so low imo.
It really is because of shorter shift length. That seems to work better for Nik. He has basically the same number of shifts as the other top guys (depending on PP usage).

So I have a theory

This current lineup is very very effective playing bones hockey. All 4 lines are big and direct. All 4 lines had a back checker hard on the park all night.

The only goal we gave up was Wheeler screwing up his assignment.

Vegas had a few chances but for the most part they were in tight which I have to say seems almost impossible to score on Helly unless its the 2nd or 3rd attempt in tight.

Be interesting to see what they do when we have Ehlers and Perfetti back. Where would you slot Perfetti?

I think 4th line Barron + Perfetti might be able to get something done.

he's been like that every where he's gone with a variety of teams or roles. one of the OG "analytical darlings."

Fun game to watch - Lowry and PLD were on fire, Nino going to the net hard, Connor finally shooting... good stuff

jets really got under Eichel's skin, Stone not 100%, Jets really playing Boweness system

Fantastic road game. PLD and Lowry were beasts all night. Morgan Barron tougher than the entire Maple Leafs roster combined.
Kinda love that we traded Copp for Copp 2.0 and a pick which could be another Ehlers

I was just mentioning how guys like PLD and Lowry are built for the playoffs. Saku, Barron and Apples all played a heavy, simple, north/south game last night

I love ehelers and perfetti as much as the next guy, but that means you're probably yanking stenlund and Saku from the line up. We get much smaller and a little more east/west-ish.

You gotta do it to ice your best line up but it would certainly change the complexion of the team

Cole would be a simple substitution for Gus on the left side. But Gus was good!

I thought Scheifele still looked a bit disinterested and weak on the puck, but as a whole it was a fantastic game.
There was a couple instances where he could have battled a bit more, but I thought he was very good.

Anyone else notice that the goalie's skate did not come up and cut Barron? Check the hilights and you'll see that Knights #20 puts the lumber across the back of Barrons neck and shoves him onto the skate. There should be a suspension for that sort of thing.

Don't think anyones mentioned it yet but Apples played the best game of the season, poke checking all over the place and jumping on loose pucks. He was a big part of the Golden Showers getting only 17 shots on goal.

I was hoping the see the Mark Scheifele of the 2018 playoffs. That guy was a freaking monster!
There is lots of time. If we go on a run we will see lots of players step forward at different times. Scheifele was in no way a passenger last night and didn't try to get fancy to create offense when we already had that under control. He looks to have bought into the game plan and will have his turns at being the guy when we need him. I'd be worried if he was on a different page then the rest of the team which he is not.
