The slide started after injuries - Maurice will be coach until his contract expires... he’s worked harder at that than coaching

Counting on a 19 year old to save your offense isn't a plan that it likely to work. It took him a good 15 AHL games to really get up to speed and start to dominate. We don't have the runway left to allow him the same type.of development arc here.
I get what you're saying, but he doesn't have to "save" our offense, or anything. There's a reciprocal effect to just adding someone who is better. More attention on him means less on others, more attention on others means less on him. Better is better. It doesn't really have to be more complicated than that.

I laugh because the assertion that Maurice gets to live another year for one period of good play is comical, though I cry because that’s likely to be the case.
Even with Ehlers and Lowery the team doesn't have enough talent to contend until that defense is rebuilt. I don't care who is coaching that defense is beyond bad. Neither Morrissey or Pionk would be top 4 on a contender.

Seems a bit drastic, no?

Morrissey played like a top pairing D with a better supporting cast around him, and Pionk is a fair bit better than Trouba, who was in our top 4 when we were a contender.

I agree the defence is weak overall though.

Quesnel, B.C.
I’ve taken the time to read and consider almost all the posts contributed.

I think most of you, as usual, have good insight.

I will separate my points into this Season/Playoffs and Next Season

This Season/Playoffs:

-I was encouraged by what I watched tonight to be honest. I saw effort by the skaters and our goalie making the saves we’re used to seeing. No, it wasn’t great, but it was far closer to a team trying to battle than what I watched 2 nights ago.

Set the Coach + Ehlers + Lowry aside, tonight showed that the Boys cared imho, and I think that means something come the Playoffs. With these 2 critical pieces back (and Mo playing Stanley instead of f***ing Benn) I still think we make some noise.

Next Season

-I agree with many of you that a new voice is needed behind the bench. I also believe that the leadership of the Team needs to be changed. As I mentioned in the previous PGT, the introduction of youth into the lineup and their development (Stanley, Heinola, etc) is required in order for this Team to become a real contender.

I think that Chevy has been a great GM compared to many in the NHL. He has managed the Cap exceptionally well & come out on the better side of more than a few Trades that I’ve seen. I’m on record of not being a fan of the Jordie Benn deal but no GM is perfect.

If I have a criticism of Chevy it would be his patience with Maurice. I understand that COVID has played a part last season and this one. Short of a miracle run this Post Season, I hope he takes a long, hard look at the options available and pulls the trigger.

Edit: Sorry here’s some funny stuff. I’m off tomorrow and been drinking a bit

They wouldn't be top 4 on a contender just take a look around at the real contenders and you will see pretty quickly.

Imagine Maurice gave Ville Logan and maybe Dylan games earlier in the year instead of sticking with the same group. 3 of our 6 d tonight likely won't be here next season. You have 3 guys 4 if u count Jonny K and Maurice has stuck stubbornly with below average shit like poolman Forbort and now Benn. He could have played any of them but didn't... It's his fault. Our D is bad but Maurices refusal to play the younger guys makes it worse.

I appreciate you, but I especially appreciate the effort you put into seeing things from multiple perspectives. It's a lot easier to look at an argument and find the parts that you feel are wrong to dismiss the entirety of it than it is to find the parts that you feel are right and build off of the common ground you share.

I see. Tomorrow aka Friday vs Montreal then Ottawa then Calgary. I'd say the next 3 games will determine Maurices fate. If we go 0 for..... I think you have to let him go after the loss.

Toronto had a 7 game streak and Keefe wasn't fired. There's not enough time for a new coach to right the ship before the playoffs so you might as well play put the string with the guy you already have.

I don't care what Toronto did or didn't do.

Other teams didn't panic when losing and I don't think the Jets will either, especially this late into the season. The north division has had two coaching changes this year and the teams that did them are in the exact same spot they were before the change. I know the coach is the lightning rod right now but a new coach at this time of the season is not happening.
