No way. I'm not into the touchy feely stuff, unless it's getting the cat lady to share which is way more interesting than, as you so optly put it, the same 5 sticking points over and over.

Besides, wasn't our first date, was how we met. Which was entirely by chance being in a random spot when it suddenly began chucking it down. When you find yourself weighing a big life decision and trying to balance all the pros and cons, helps to realize how your biggest life changes are often the result of totally insignificant shit just hitting at random.
No that was the meet cute. The first date is the next date.,

No, you're absolutely right. I just need to accept that there's a segment of fans that don't like Stanley and won't give him any credit, ever.

It's funny because if you go on any of the other 31 forums, they're bashing their bottom 2 or three D as well :P

It's almost like people expect every player to be an elite player in the league. :)

That's a very fair assessment. I've said that his biggest weakness is agility - if he could just get better at pivots and anticipate a bit more I think he could become adequate at it.

They should be

Right, agility is the problem. How does a 6'7, 26 YO guy fix that?

I tend to not pry into other people's business, because if they wanted me to know, they would have already told me

(The only exception is if I get a sense there's something bothering someone. That's the only time I ever gently poke them to talk about it)

I pry into everyone’s business. My mom says the way how you get to know ppl is to ask questions.people like talking about themselves.

I disagree.

I criticize Stanley in the most unbiased way I can. There was a point earlier this season when I was ready to launch him to the moon.

Whatever, it's like politics. People get dug in and they close their mind to the possibility that something has changed, or do not want to see anything that is converse to their point of view.

I will continue to support Stanley as long as he is a Jet, hope he plays well, criticize him when he deserves it and give him praise when he's earned it.

None of us make roster decisions, so why not support our players?

Sure, I'll just shut up about it, I guess.
It just irritates me when people say things that are objectively false.

Stats are only useful when they support your argument :)
There is so much to like about this post!

But it’s not even a discussion anymore, it’s here’s my 5 sticking points over and over again.

I liked the stories.

It has been covered ad nauseam. There is the POV that Jets like him, for whatever reasons. Therefore he is going to play. So why bother talking about it.

I've tried transitioning to simply stating that I want someone better at 3LD. I haven't been able to always do that though. It is hard to ignore a game as bad as last night's. I think he knew how badly he was playing too. You could see it on his face.

BUT, it was one game after a string of much better ones - AND we did win, in spite of some bad play (Stan and some others). What will his next several games bring?

Agility is my biggest beef with him. The opposition skates circles around him when he doesn’t have the puck. He might as well not be on the ice at those times because he can’t chase anyone down.

BUT! To Jet’s point, when he has the puck he’s making some good outlet passes and his shot is actually good and hard.

So to me, it’s a little of column A and a little of column B.

Heinola got multiple opportunities. He was often in the right place at the right time, but his shot looked like a muffin.

Yep, but, at what point do we expect 6 million players to play like 6 million dollar players and expect 3< players to play like less than <3 million players. For me expectations are different.
what's the average cap hit of PPG fwds in the league this season?

I am not sure if I read it anywhere in the summary but I really like the 1st goal the Jets scored last night. That was as greasy as it gets, and even though if was an own goal, it's that attack the net mentality that works. Also would have been Heinola's first assist if Blankenburg hadn't pushed the puck over the line. Barron and Kupari seem to be gelling, and I am sure they are making a case to the coach that if the team adds in the top 6, they shouldn't be the ones to come out of the lineup.

That 4th line, with Gus at C and Kup on a wing seems more dangerous. They are going to score a few.

For me its his hockey IQ and he reacts too slow.

I have no stats to back this up, but it seems to me that the majority of goals during the playoffs are gritty, greasy ones like the one you're referring to. Are lines one and two as currently composed, capable of getting to those areas? I have to admit that I'm a little worried they're not.

6'7 Stan is fine as a 6/7 d man, I don't think he's suited to the top 4 role he's had to play recently but that's okay. Most teams don't have top-4 quality D on the 3rd pair anyways. Once he's back playing his usual role I think he'll be stronger for having the experience higher in the lineup.

vilardi definitely is imo, although he didn't score last POs i think he is the best net front guy on the team.
connor & scheifele im not worried about goal scoring.
2nd line don't think so as they're constructed. namestnikov can be a garbage-goal guy but they're not generating a ton of offense right now.

last POs, 2nd line w/ toffoli and monahan had 2GF 0GA with monahan+ehlers combining for 0.

Good news. Even if he misses Friday it doesn’t seem like it will be anything longer term.
Yes, it didn't look that worrisome to me when it happened, but it is always hard to tell when legs hit (relatively) immovable objects. I'm certain they would have imaged the knee by now, so if there were anything really serious we would know.

Big bullet dodged on defense!

Now, if they'd only ****Stanley**** we'd be be golden.

Actually, Stanley's hockey sense is pretty good. If you watch his game instead of just waiting to jump on mistakes, you'll see he makes alot of very good decisions with the puck. His exit passes are probably the best of our bottom pair crew of 5. Consistently better than Heinola, and that's supposed to be his strength.

He's also shown a strong ability to get the puck through on his shots, and some offensive acumen rushing and passing in the offensive zone.

Yes, he makes mistakes, like all our players. His biggest weakness is his agility through his pivots, and that gets him into trouble on rush plays sometimes. He doesn't have great top end speed but I don't see that being a problem. His biggest area of opportunity is adjusting his timing to account for these deficiencies.

People just don't have the patience to look at Stans game as a whole, and actually try to judge it objectively. Not does anyone want to acknowledge that he might actually be getting better because it goes against their belief that he's just bad.

It's fascinating.
Hilarious to read that we haven't had patience for Stan while you passive aggressively bash Heinola in the next breath...

I will agree that Stan 'knows' what to do and his breakout passes have improved immensely... but his foot speed prevents him from pressuring players and as a result, he retreats further and further back to the crease during games - he undermines the aggressive nature of our penalty kill and basically plays 6' in front of Helle - ending up as more of a screen for the opposition than anything.

At his age, nothing can improve his skating and his 'reach' doesn't compensate for his lack of pressure on opposition forwards - this doesn't mean that I 'hate' Stan, it just means that we will get destroyed in the playoffs if he is getting more than 10 mins of ice time a game...

Jets play an aggressive D and while Stan is on the ice, we slowly regress to a shooting gallery... now guys are somehow glorifying Stan once he plays 'well' - like completely sucking is not a reason for you to be in the top 4, thats all I know.

Was at the game last night. Fun night, crowd was into it. Terrible call on Connor in the 3rd could have changed the outcome glad they killed it off

2nd line was out too lunch all game. All 3 guys look off kilter with each other. Easy passes and reads were missed all night. They need to get it together.

Stanley had his worst game in a while. Didn't handle the pressure as well as he has been, looked out of sorts early and it carried on all game. Yes it was a penalty but that f***er was driving the hit hard on Helly when he was going to freeze it and had been doing shit like that all night, hope you like your new teeth. As for Stanley, it was one game when he has been putting together a string of solid games so lets see how he rebounds on Friday

Heinola on the other hand had his best game this year. He handled the Preds forecheck and made a lot of quality passes and stepped into the play nicely. Hopefully he can carry this going forward.
Really think Coghlan is being under-estimated... he seems really calm out there and making DeMelo style moves.
