This is frickin wild. They played exceptional defense and couldn't generate anything against the Avs.
It was still a shut-out, so that's a win, but this isn't a one-time thing. Colorado's game is speed, it's one of our few weaknesses. Our first line didn't match up well against them in the playoffs either, our scoring lines' strengths were erased and Colorado took advantage of their weaknesses frequently. We'll have to adapt.

From my eye test, our lack of offense was rooted in not being able to exit our zone with the puck and then being too disconnected with puck support in the o zone to build sustained pessure

Hopefully the Jets coaching staff is looking at the film and they're starting to come up with adjustments to address this

I'd start with Stanley sitting the next Avs game out... his lack of footspeed exposes him against a team like that

Also, props to Arniel to making the ESV/CNP adjustment when he did. He may not need to do that every game, but it changed the momentum in this game. We started getting some zone time after that

Just replied to a crass DM from @Tasteless Beaver

I thought it was universally known that you don't say "shutout" when a goalie is working on a shutout in hockey...

Do people not know this?
I understand that saying "shutout" is a no-no in hockey mythology, but we can have fun with it. I mean if we all spammed that Helle is going to get a shutout every game, would he magically get no shutouts in a season?

Now, there may be something to the timing of saying it, (the hockey gods are a mercurial bunch) if we say it at the beginning of a games opposed to saying it with 5 minutes left does that somehow offend the delicacies of the hockey gods more?

And how come there's no mythology about scoring a hat trick? Nobody blinks an eye if a player already has 2 goals and posts that they feel that player will get his 3rd goal.

This isn't meant as a post against you, just about the silliness of hockey-god-mythology.

....and also nobody say shutout ever again, I'll still blame you

If you think saying it has any effect on the result then you're not the brightest bulb in the bunch.
Of course it doesn't, but that's not the point lol

It's a time honored tradition and something that people JOKE about. I know the idea of JOKING about things are is tough for some people to wrap their heads around

Fell asleep the entire second period, but I didn't miss much. Was awake for the first and clenched for most of the third. Another shutout for Connor Hellebuyck, absolutely stoned the Avs! The other goalie, whatshisname, did okay too. I give this game five "revenges" out of five...

The Prediction Contest for the game against the Dallas "Don't Call Us North" Stars has been posted for your guesses. Thanks again to @The Blue Baron for creating the "revengeful" GDT, it worked out pretty good if you ask me. I will be putting together the GDT for Saturday, but sadly will not be able to join in the festivities as I will be on the road somewhere between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay. I thought it was a 6:00pm start, but I guess it got bumped back to 2:00pm because of the Bomber game. Will see you guys the next game. Good night...

I didn't feel like Colorado outplayed us as a team, just seemed like their top players outclassed our entire team. That's what makes me uncomfortable, they don't have the depth right now but they still looked like the better team.
They sure sure do play the top line a ton - be nice to avoid these guys in the first round - I can see that group slowing down through the playoffs (at least a bit). But that is one crazy good line that can shift into top gear in a blink - and that's what throws most apposing teams back on their heels.
The next lesson for the Jets is to learn how to adapt to that level of play - as best they can.
