When it comes to his time in the team Jesse didn't put himself ahead of the team. I know enough about him to say that's not him at all. I understand if you feel he wasn't good enough, but he always plays for his team and he's very (maybe too) harsh towards himself.

My final thought for now. I totally understand why you guys feel offended he has said he'd like a change of scenery. But I'll never understand why almost all of you seem to think it's perfectly fine for the team to say they are willing to trade a player (like Gretzky said as a GM last spring), but even after that the player isn't allowed to feel insulted and want to change the team. I thought that was simply the first big move and after that I'd probably want away if I was the player.

So yes I'd love to hear if that's how you guys really really feel deep inside. The team can say "we don't believe in you and we're ready to give up on you", but the player needs to stay loyal for the next 4 years or so after that.

JP should use Gretzky's comments as motivation instead of acting immature about it.

The only way to prove doubters wrong is through progression/productivity.

When you're under performing and you make it public by saying you don't want to play for the team. That sends a bad message to the fanbase.

You are entirely missing the point of the CBA. Until you accept the league has a collectively bargained agreement you will not fathom the reasons players have few rights past the age of and in most cases, 27.

So while it is within his rights to not sign with the Oilers, like it or not the league has a CBA which restricts players rights until they are 27 or have played 7 years and the Oilers have zero obligations to trade him. At 27 the player can pick and choose their team and contract with impunity.

Looking at why people here are “offended” (which I am not, I am calling out a spoiled brat when I see one) look at the facts.

The organization has a new GM who has a reputation second to none and who is on record of wanting PJ to be given a fresh start on the team.

The organization has a new coach (and 2 assistants) who has a stellar reputation among players as being a fantastic coach and person who extracts the most out of players at the same time as being a friend and confidante to the players and is on record as wanting to give PJ a fresh start.

The organization has nearly a complete new bottom 6 and many new players where PJ can find a new fit.

There is no team which lacks the wingers to play with top Center’s as the Oilers presenting JP with as good an opportunity as there is in the entire NHL.

The fact many teammates find him stubborn and difficult to play with, and the exasperation his coaches have had with him ( and I have personally spoken with Todd M about him at length ) compounded with his interviews about the situation and his agents backpedaling have put JP in a very bad light, especially in a blue collar working mans city where earning $1,000,000 per year to play hockey is a privilege not a right.

He comes across as a petulant whining snivelling nose licking brat and crybaby who isn’t getting his way so he takes his toys and runs home. As far as I am concerned he can sit and rot in Oulu.

Its a subjective opinion. I wouldnt get too wound up about it.

Subjective? I guess the English language doesn't really have rules anymore. lol. Maybe he is using discovery learning?

In the assumption that JP comes back with a different outlook and attitude and signs with us. Do we not have to move out a contract to fit him under the cap?

According to Capfriendly we currently have 2.4M in cap space. 1.75M is allocated for potential performance bonus to Mike Smith.

they are not really required to allocate the performance bonus money to smith at the start of the season, ONLY after he attains the goals of the bonuses do they have to allocate it as he obtains the bonus, but even that can slide to next year.

Not only that capfriendly is showing the free cap space with a 23 man roster. that's not really that necessary to carry 14 forwards not including JP

Yes...subjective.

I have freinds in Southern California...to them there really are only 2 months that are lliveable in Alberta. There could be snow in any other month.
Its a climate they would prefer not to live in....ie not livable...to them. And they have a choice where they want to live. They would never choose Edmonton (Alberta).

So what? Thats just how they feel...doesnt affect me in the slightest. Why does it affect you?

No, it's just that I find the whole agreement strange. I would without Jesse's case, too, but I hadn't realized what kind of a system it really is. I don't think that'd be possible here in Europe, but I know the whole system is based more around companies and their rights in North America. Not comparing the places, just saying some things are quite different (of course it's a matter of taste if they're better or worse).

Yes I agree with some of the things you wrote, but disagree with some. Maybe I've missed something but I don't think it's a fact that many teammates find him stubborn and difficult to play with. I've seen plenty of speculation over here, but not too many actual facts. Of course speculation may always be right, but it can go wrong as well.

As for the coach, I agree there's a good enough chance to get a top6 this season and I wouldn't mind seeing him go for it, but as far as I know the current coach has a reputation of going for veterans instead of younger players. Maybe that'll change next year, you never know.

As there's been a lot of talk about Edmonton as a place I read a Finnish article (from last October) where he said he likes Edmonton. Here's the translation:

"I've enjoyed it in Edmonton, I have a nice flat/apartment too. It's cold, there was already a bit of snow. But I like it, it's a nice place, and not any New York."

I've decided to step away from this forum after tonight, but wanted to reply to you before that. All the best!

Yea, that was explained to me already. But I appreciate the response.

So just ignore English language rules. Who needs em when you are smearing a city? Right? Perhaps you can tell your children to let their Junior (Elementary) High School teacher know what "Unlivable" really means. I'm sure teach will praise them for discovering new ways to look at words where they mean something completely different than the definition.

I'm sure you love Calgary. It's a nice place. Enjoy.

I mean "people from California" is a pretty specific case ... there are people in California for whom Vancouver is too cold/rainy to live in let alone anywhere else in Canada. There's not many hockey players born and raised from California.

Come on man..you know damn well that not livable is just another way of saying a climate that they would rather not live in. Its not that difficult to understand.

I even stated Alberta in the post you responded to but you still made this an Edmonton / Calgary thing.

Why are you so thinned skinned about this? To the point where you seem to take it personally. As if someone not liking Edmonton or Alberta for that matter is a personal attack on your choice to live there.

Why do you care? Its completely and totally subjective. Its just a matter of personal preference.
Its not that hard to understand.

Just let it go...it simply doesnt matter if someone doesnt like the climate in Edmonton or Calgary or Alberta. They have every right not to like it especially if they came form a warm climate.
Unless of course you are looking for a battle which you seem to be.

Maybe we can agree that its time to revisit the topic of this thread.

I sometimes wonder if this thread is even about JP anymore.

I'm probably going to be asked what it feels like to wolf down a pizza if I was JP while I bomb McD's interview.

Best thing right now is for him to sign in the KHL. I'd use JP as an example for future RFA's that demand a trade and playing time. Let him rot in Europe until he becomes a UFA. I'd rather get nothing for him to prove a point then to just bend and trade him for a 2nd/3rd. I wouldn't doubt that after a year in Europe he will be begging to come back to Edmonton.

How is Russian pizza anyways?

Jesse's desire to leave the Oilers has nothing to do with the city itself IMO
Especially because he is from Tornio. When you compare the weather statistics between Edmonton and Tornio you'll see that average winter temperatures are about the same. Summers are a little bit warmer in Edmonton. So the climate is about the same that he had in Tornio and in Oulu. Edmonton is also a bigger city. Therefore there must be more to do in Edmonton than in Oulu. The only thing missing is friends.

Awful. I remember being shocked at how bad the pizza is around there.

pizza is not a problem in KHL. The biggest problem is doctors. They give you bunch of pills that you have no idea what they are and if you get injured they give some pain killers and after that you are supposed to play again. It's like being in the army again. In addition to that there might be some violence going on in the team and apartments might be s***holes but it's Russia. It's normal there. Of course not all places are similar. SKA for example is almost like a NHL organization.

If he goes to the KHL I would bet he would go to Finland or maybe Latvia.

I also think that Jokerit buys his KHL rights if he decides to play in that league. He could be Eeli version 2.

About Swedish pizzas. My colleague from Salttis told once that you have to go to the kitchen to find out whether the cook is Italian or not. If yes then it's a decent pizzeria, if not, then it's not. I've lived twice in Stockholm and had no problems with pizzas there.
