I mean, yeah, I don't like the jersey ads either. But we all knew they were coming.

The NHL is a business. The owners want to make money, bottom-line. If some company is going to offer $10M to put a sticker on their sweater, it's not a mystery why they'd take it.

It's an unfortunate piece of being a big business. Sucks, but that's how it goes.

I knew ads were going to ruin sweaters, but I wasn't expecting it to be so disgusting so soon.
I thought they would atleast try to be subtle for a few years, my mistake.

I can't believe how boldly gross they purposefully made the leafs and habs sweaters immediately, just a disgusting cash grab and if my teams get jersey ads I'm never buying another authentic one.

As it there's not enough ads, commercials, pop ups and virtual overlays already. Jfc.

For f***s sake.

Can't wait for the great RBC Lion v Ontario Milk rivalry.

f*** this league.

Could be worse.....at least the sponsor isn't front and center, with the team logo in the top corner all tiny, like the EPL's had for years.
No such thing as a small ad. The ad is the whole jersey. They lure you in with something you like, that's the logic of advertising. If they added a second one, the first sponsor would pay less. If they covered it with ads, they'd all probably pay a fraction because clutter doesn't sell. The purchaser is buying all the negative space on the jersey around their logo. It's to their benefit that they should sit comfortably beside the team crest.

I'm comparing the NHL (small ad, huge logo) with the EPL (small logo, huge ad).

Clear difference between the two - even if both jerseys now have a team logo and a team sponsor.

You can see the Highmark logo on the Pens jersey in this video. Apologies if the Pens jersey ad has already been posted.

LOL at the Pens' practice jerseys having a UPMC patch and the game jerseys having a Highmark patch. Gotta cover all your bases I guess.

Earth shattering is your word. I said it's an ad. It's RBC vs Milk. If that's still exciting to you, great.

Alright I guess this is still going.

You said "these are simply no longer NHL jerseys".

They are.

Clearly.

I'm just saying it's a tad overdramatic of a reaction, over a tiny square of an ad in the corner of a jersey, that's all.

Is it exciting? No, although I'm certainly enjoying the temper tantrums some are having.

I dunno, what difference does it make if it's a tiny square ad or one which takes up the whole jersey? The implication is the same. It's an "advertising space" now, not just a uniform.

The difference is that the team logo (or lettering, in some cases) remains unmistakably front and center.

Maybe sometime in the future the ad placement will be far more prominent (like the aforementioned EPL example), but for now it's still quite insignificant in my eyes. :dunno:

And the joke in a Geico commercial is 29 out of 30 seconds of runtime, but we don't call those comedy. They're ads.
