Jersey Ads

They could have done this, like the Capitals did.
But RBC are probably too f***ing blockheaded and proud to reduce their logo to a red color.

RBC probably isn't going to shell out a boatload of money for a subtle advertisement. My guess is that it's a substantial amount, otherwise it would be odd for a team that's a top 5 revenue generator to resort to jersey ads when it's not even mandatory.

but you cannot say that for sure at all in america and canada..... since this is a brand new thing!

Euro soccer is a whole other thing. can't compare.
There are no ads break in soccer, fans accept the jersey ad.

NBA teams quickly change jersey ads... companies don't want to hang around.

No hockey fans will buy or support anything because it now suddenly appears on their favorite teams jersey, on the contrary.

just look here on hfboards, 99% negative.
and we are just regular people.
The people that post on forums (about anything ) are the vocal minority. The regular consumer doesn't take the time to do so.

As with everything, the people with negative opinions are usually louder than the people with positive or no opinion. And people here are a small % of the total people a jersey ad reaches.

I am so unbothered by this.

I've religiously followed European soccer since high school so that's probably it.

Also in a dream world the Devils' jerseys have a Wawa patch.

hockey jersey ads only reaches hockey fans.
and hockey fans know their game...... i am still claiming that 99% of hockey will not fall for this crap and start buying products because they see them on their home team jersey.

and what about the other teams you hate .... then that company/product will be connected to that?

then you might start to avoid said product / company....... how about that !?

Elvis' manager would sell "I hate Elvis" merchandise to double-dip.

I wouldn't be terribly bothered if, like European football, we didn't also have to sit through commercial breaks during each period. I always give football a bit of a pass because, while a front-and-center shit ad is obnoxious, it is the only sport I know of where you can sit and watch for extended periods of time unburdened by commercial breaks. If a big Fly Emirates ad is our payback for that then I can deal with it.

That was meant to say "shirt ad," but I think I like my typo more so I'm just going to leave it.

I thought that I would be neutral to jersey ads, but after seeing this and the Jets jersey, I realize how terrible they are. That Hab’s jersey is an abomination.

Prelim release of the jersey advertisers had like a 50-50 split of which ones blended in vs stuck out of the dozen or so that were published. I think Minny was one that stood out in a negative way.

Put a patch on the pants, instead. While the sponsor might argue that it wouldn't be visible in close up shots, on the other hand it wouldn't be competing with the logo for the eye's attention.

I'm fine with jersey ads as long as:

1) They're matched with the jersey colors for discretion
2) Fans have a chance to select an ad-free option when buying a fan jersey

Not like I'm going to riot if these conditions are not met, though, but those would help a lot when it comes to the public opinion.

I’m hoping the Habs started the opening bid at 1 billion. It’s the only way that makes it better

Has anyone compiled a list of what ad is going on each team jersey? Some of them won't be too bad, and personally I don't mind the 90s AHL jerseys with the single ad. They never got carried away with it, hope the NHL doesn't either.

You can't compare it with football. For starters, we don't have TV ad breaks... Two 45 minute halves of uninterrupted play.

Personally, I think this is a travesty and a stain on the leagues heritage. TV ad breaks, replays sponsored by companies, in arena powerplay sponsorship announcements, helmet ads, jersey patches. Gross.

Where does it end?

regular consumers don't watch NHL hockey.

Only fans watch, and they give these "sponsors" the finger for messing up their team's uniform.

I'm talking about NHL fans. The average "regular" NHL fan does not spend any time on hockey forums.
