Jersey Ads

I, personally, am never buying anything from any company that advertises on an NHL jersey and I, personally am never going to buy an NHL jersey with an ad on it.

I hope you do the same.
This is the way. Even better, don't buy any jerseys and stream online.

I personally believe that billionaires shouldn't exist. That said... it's not like anyone else is going to run the NHL for us... necessary evil and all that.

I'm not simping for billionaires. I think ads on jerseys are dumb. But I'm not going to rant all leopardsatemyface style in here as I understand the world we live in.
So after $999 999 999 you should give your money away?

To entertain the silly concept, sure. What good is any more going to do you?

But to address my point less nonsensically, I'm not a big fan of a financial system where that accumulation of wealth is even possible. Usually goes hand in hand with exploitation of many further down the food chain.

At least they could have been delicious ads like fast food or something. No one is going to watch the Wild and go, hey, I'm going to go out and buy a hair removal product now. lol.

Is it really so different than say, when a team hosts the all star game? Or if they celebrate a major anniversary?

After market logos are plastered on jerseys during these? They have nothing to do with the original jersey, or the history. You could almost say it's a marketing ploy just to get people to buy the latest jersey model.

I know I fell for it for all the Canadiens 100th anniversary stuff.

Other major sports have started doing it (NBA) and the fact of the matter is the NHL trails behind ALL the other major sports leagues in terms of money and revenue.

This outrage from people is hilarious. Literally getting mad over money being spent or given that you never would have given, and never would've gotten.

My point stands. I couldn't care less. I care about the team and the product on the ice.

and yes...my opinion would probably change if they start looking like the European leagues.
why care about the team, the players don't, it all about money for them.
And players come and go as well, why bother take interest.

They play for your home team? Well the players are not from there, they don't care about your city. They play for money and the chance to win for themselves. Of course they feel like that, they could be traded tomorrow.

I was on board with jerseys anywhere except the uniforms.

CHL had ads on the goalie posts for crying out loud.

No. It should be taken from you and a dog park named after you.

And before you get all worked up, you will never have this problem so maybe you should ask yourself why you’d fight against it.
Leela: Why are you cheering, Fry? You're not rich!
Fry: True, but someday I might be rich. And then people like me better watch their step.

Maybe im too European for this discussion but jersey ads dont really bother me. Worst thing about them is if they do the color scheme so it clashes with the jersey colors. Otherwise i dont care.

What annoys me in NHL much more are the long TV timeouts that just turn me off from watching. I want to watch teams playing hockey, not commercials that stop the action.

Here's hoping you don't bank, have insurance, ever travel, bet on sports or eat.....other than that you should be fine.

All we need is 2 toilet paper parent companies and 2 north American bidet manufacturers on these jerseys and the NHL wins.

Which RBC has already done to the Habs.
Because they are a braindead corp that doesn't understand aesthetic.

It’s perfectly possible for such a policy to have side effects that do affect them, even if it doesn’t affect them directly.

They could have done this, like the Capitals did.
But RBC are probably too f***ing blockheaded and proud to reduce their logo to a red color.

That's what I was saying earlier. It could have been so much cleaner.

ads might work....... but not in this case.
Backlash will be intense. We know what the internet can do.

these companies will spend money, but they will not see an increase in sales.

If you look at the NBA, most of the teams quickly change their sponsors. The companies see no gain and do not renew contracts.

It's interesting how even that Wikipedia entry has fallen for the NBA's language on these ads by calling them "jersey sponsors." There's a significant difference between sponsors and advertisers, with sponsor being a term that tends to soften people up because of its positive connotations.

Just think of times when the term sponsor is used. It's like if a company sponsors a little league team. You're doing it so that they have the funds to even have uniforms, because, you know, they're a little league team that doesn't have money for these things otherwise.

But now, these professional teams think that if they say this word enough we'll absorb the feeling it engenders instead of questioning what it really means in this case. So that's another reason I don't like these ads: all the obvious reasons, plus the fact that teams, leagues, and the advertisers themselves treat fans like they're easily-manipulated fools.

wow, you're 100% correct!

Jersey sponsor, i see it..... like the team is too poor to even have uniforms on, they have to have a sponsor....... oh you poor guys!

:DD

Source?

Advertising works. Any backlash to jersey ads is likely far less impactful than the value of brand visibility, reach, and the multitude of consumers that start (consiously or subconsciously) building emotional connections between the sports team they like and the company that has a logo on the shirt.

but you cannot say that for sure at all in america and canada..... since this is a brand new thing!

Euro soccer is a whole other thing. can't compare.
There are no ads break in soccer, fans accept the jersey ad.

NBA teams quickly change jersey ads... companies don't want to hang around.

No hockey fans will buy or support anything because it now suddenly appears on their favorite teams jersey, on the contrary.

just look here on hfboards, 99% negative.
and we are just regular people.
