Proposal: Jeremy Swayman for Casey Mittlestadt, Isak Rosen and a 2nd.

Mittelstadt
Honestly, I didn't even realize this thread was a proposition involving Swayman for Mittlestadt. I didn't read the title. Just saw Swayman and chimed in lol.

And Mittlestadt even went through my head and I was like ''Where did he come from in this conversation?''.

I get that the Bruins are probably going to be tight to the cap and desperate to backfill their Center ice position if/when Bergeron+Krejci walk. But i don't think Mittelstadt really "fixes" anything there. That's a fallback, bandaid sort of position. Swayman is their big trade chip to help address this deficiency.

From the other end though...i also don't know that Swayman is really proven enough to warrant any more than a bandaid solution like Mittelstadt. Nobody is trading a bona fide Top-6C for an unproven goaltender like that.

How Boston approaches this offseason is going to be fascinating, and might be one of the first real big dominoes that influence how the rest of the summer shakes out.

Probably because we'd rather have Mitts tbh he's a lot better than people think.
Went from a throw in depth player to the most overrated sabre in 2 months

Honestly if Boston was to do this trade it’s because they like rosens game more than they’d think mitts was a replacement for what they’re potentially losing to retirement.

Mad because I told the doubters that Olofsson was holding that line down like an anchor all season and when its proven right people still don't believe it after Mitts literally was our best 1st line player for the last month of the season when given opportunity to play with legitimate players.

Add him to the list of the 200 other players that had a good month. Can I interest you in some Upl? He had a great December.

I mean he had 59 points with only 1 month of real prime minutes that's pretty good by any standard and isn't a sellout offensively.
No, he did great passing the puck to better hockey players and his play off the puck, for a few weeks, was spectacular. And for a guy that we’ve all been waiting for him to finally be healthy he had a career year. But that doesn’t suddenly make him the 1c because he did well in spot duty at the end of the season. Untouchable and Mitts shouldn’t be in the same sentence, yet his Sabres thread is pages of people “I don’t wanna say untouchable but you’d have to sell the farm to get him.” No you don’t. He’s a middle 6 playmaking forward who when playing with the 2 best wingers on the roster had a pretty good run. He’s the kinda guy that puts up 65 playing with Crosby then signs in Columbus or Calgary for 8mil and you never hear from him again. Btw the other guy who centered that line just missed 50 goals and 100 points this season, and the teams #2 center out produced him playing most of the season with 2 rookies that finished with points in the 30s. So let’s all take a pause on the guy that had 15 goals this season and stop acting like he’s a 22yr old that just scored 31/67. WHICH BTW WE HAVE. If anyone should be getting the hype it’s the workhorse from white horse. He had to go out of his mind and triple his career per game averages to even make it to 50 points. He’s not a go to on the PK and he’s a 45% faceoff guy. When you look at the total package I still don’t see a hockey player that isn’t replaceable. Especially for the Sabres who have 4 forwards already better than him that also don’t pk or win faceoffs. His time under Donny ‘20 just under a 45 point player, ‘21 a 45 point player, and with the exception of 12 games on the top line playing the best hockey of his career, he’s a 45 point player in ‘22.

I stand by my post. Going into this season Mitts was the most underrated sabre by sabres fans and because his best 12 games were his last he’s ending the season the most overrated. It’s not criticizing mitts but holy crow you’d think Hansel just walked in he’s so hot right now.

With all that said Buffalo just watched Tage Thompson appear out of nowhere and Josh Allen break math so it’s certainly the city of overachievers.

Going from one end of the spectrum to the other.

Mittelstadt was consistent all season long, and his point totals are more a reflection of who he played with (or was stuck with like Olofsson). Doesn't mean he's a "top-six" C, but he's definitely a good middle-six wing if not ready to be a full-time C next season, and brings a defensive effort and awareness that most of the FWs lack badly. He's right where Thompson was last season, finally getting into his prime. For Mittelstadt's lesser talent level, that probably means a solid two-way C hitting 60-70 pts with quality wingers (which he might also finally have most of next season).

I'm sure it has been said many times in this thread already... but to me, if I had Devon Levi, I wouldn't go around paying any exorbitant price for another young goalie. Levi can handle it. Save those assets for other pursuits.
100% …we need a vet 1b for 2 years and if we didn’t those resources use it in a #4 D or a FWD upgrade that has some grit + scoring

Ullmark makes sense more than Swayman, but I’m not sure he wants to go back to Buffalo and I don’t think the Bruins would do him raw like that.
What makes you think the Sabres want Ullmark back? And what makes you think Boston is a better destination moving forward? Ullmark doesn't make any sense to anyone that knows what they're talking about so make yourself look uninformed just to throw a weak jab. Clown shit

Bruins have Ullmark for 3 more years after this. Swayman is going to be looking for a bigger role/payday and the Bruins might not want to tie up so much cap in 2 goaltenders.

Mittlestadt is on a team friendly deal and Rosen is a first rounder who is having a quietly good season in the AHL as an 18 year old.
I like the deal as a Bruins fan. Its done !

Mitlestadt came on real strong down the stretch looks like to me that he has a real good shot at being top 6, throw in Rosen and a second. Done !!!

Why would Buff trade for this guy, they already have a better goalie prospect themselves in Levi.

Also, Mittelstadt had a very good season this past year considering he had to drag around Olofsson for ¾ of the season. When he was put on the 1st line down the stretch with an injured Thompson he looked borderline dynamite. Great hands, nifty, shifty, hustling all over the ice.

He's also Dahlin's BFF so I doubt they want to move him anyways.

I will leave Like to everyone who spells " Mittelstadt " name right.

Levi isn't a BETTER prospect than Swayman, but I agree with your general thrust that having two top goalie prospects doesn't really make sense. Better to target a vet on a short term deal that can split the net with Levi like Boston has done with Ullmark/Swayman.

I don't know what you are talking about. Ullmark had tough personal times in Buffalo and Boston was a fresh start. Has nothing to do with Buffalo as a city or taking shots.
