You’d be hard pressed to find a projected line up on this board without him being penciled in and he’s most likely not going to be ready by TC.

JG is going to have to figure out another possible option until he is ready, is all I’m saying.

It presents another stumbling block.

Who gets the minutes?
I don't think anyone can say with any authority that he will or won't be ready by next training camp.

As for who gets the minutes, it's impossible to say knowing as little as we do about what next years team might look like. If Chytil is ready, run Mika, Hayes and Chytil down the middle, sign a stopgap 4c or third line winger, there are plenty of guys like that out there.

People are complaining about signing Desharnais? He was a UFA signing and hasn't been used terribly.

I wouldn't even put him in the top-15 worst bottom-6 forwards the last 5 years.

Powe
Pyatt
Paille
McLeod
Holland
Segal
Puempel
Beck
Glass
Etem
Stoll
Bourque
Newbury
Malone
Mueller
Mashinter
Megna
Ferriero

As a free agent on a 1-year deal he is definitely not bad. People need to be realistic here and understand that DD51 was put in a position he wasn't good enough for, when he was put on the PP and top-line. That doesn't make him a bad player. He's a good bottom-6 player to have, and I am saying that while not being a fan of him.

He has been excellent. No reason to complain at all. In fact, if the Rangers decided they needed a FA 4C I’d be happy to have him back. (I appreciate this isn’t the DD thread)

This just proves to me you haven't watched him play.

I’m watching him clear as day. He can’t skate. This is a skating league more than ever. It scares me big time. He’s a good player will probably be a good player but you’re kidding yourself if you think he’s got first line upside. That’s what we needed at 7th overall.

Telling me I’m not watching him play is what a 12 year old would say to win an argument. Stop

Stepan cant skate either.Has had himself a nice career. You can get by in todays game even if you arent a great skater.

There’s a difference between not having a quick first step and not being able to skate. He’s also 19, so I’m glad we’re writing him off about an issue he himself is cognizant of and has said is his main area to focus on improving.

I'm not a "fan" either. Gorton needs to fill a roster, and you need spare parts to do that most of the time. As your list points out, there are MUCH worse spare parts in the league that we have signed before.

I don't think anyone is writing him off.
Some may question his drafting position, skill set and rightfully so.
He's very young and there's clearly some work that needs to be done.
His skating issue is a little beyond just his first step IMO.
That's not to say he can't improve that fairly quickly but if I had to guess if he were going to be ready by TC?
I wouldn't think so..

People have been writing him off since his name was announced at the podium in June. It’s been addressed ad nauseum about the difference in his skill set and what type of player he projects to be, so I’m not re-hashing it.

As to his skating, it really just is his first first step that’s the issue IMO. He has good straight-ahead speed and has a really strong base to pivot well. He also has a strong skill to play well and quick with the puck that will only get better as he gets older.

While I'm certainly not giving up on him, I'll have to disagree on his straight ahead speed.
I love his around the net awareness and the rest of his game though.

Didn't see this posted, and I was just looking up something else but found it.

Rangers GM Jeff Gorton Named to the Advisory Group for US National Team
Gorton joins a collection of NHL general managers that includes Stan Bowman (Chicago Blackhawks), David Poile (Nashville Predators), Ray Shero (New Jersey Devils) and Dale Tallon (Florida Panthers). In this new role, he will support Bill Zito, who has been named General Manager of the 2018 U.S. Men's National Team, in the player selection process.

You win some, you lose some :dunno:

Agreed.

On the same token, Im perpetually perplexed at how the Rangers can't seem to develop these types of players
Aside from this season they always have a good/great 4th line. Not having enough talent at wing forces us to have Fast and Vesey playing top 6 minutes. Plus we traded Grabner.

Agree to disagree I suppose. This has been a problem for a long time. And those couple of seasons when the Rangers truly did have a deep team, many of the bottom 6 components were imported one way or another.

Jeff Gordon will go down as the worst GM in Rangers history. He has created a huge mess and he has no plan on how to fix it! That was obvious with the trades this year. He got nothing for Miller, nothing for Nasher, nothing for Mac, time will tell on the Stepan trade but Anderson and ADA do nothing for me! Jeff Gorton sucks!

So is it Jeff Gordon or Jeff Gorton? I'm confused. ;)
