Yeah, if Ruff was considered for the job of head coach, I think they would have given that a go after the season crashed and burned.

Jeff Gorton looking for the best available coach moving forward, getting back to an identity and would not rule out bringing in an AHL coach, used the word "fresh" and said the room needs a new voice.

Gorton said all the right things about searching for the next coach.

Everyone being fired except stuff makes me uncomfortable though. That would be a very Rangers thing to do.

Ruff isn't getting hired as Head Coach. Gorton seemed like he wanted to talk to Ruff face to face instead of firing him in the media. Also, Ruff was brought in just last summer, so he prob deserves to have his fate separated from the rest of the staff. He'll still likely be fired unless they bring in a young coach who wants a veteran like Ruff to help him out.

I think we can rule out that Kevin S. get moved in this summer window based on his answers and reasoning.

Really liked those comments from Gorton.

Brooks, I think, used the word "fresh" in a question, and he really glommed on to it throughout the interview – they want a fresh face, a fresh approach, etc. Very much gave the impression that they want someone forward looking, who won't necessarily be here with a focus on next year, but to develop and guide the kids as they come up, molding a new core for years to come. Gave the impression he was definitely open to guys who haven't yet coached in the NHL. Mentioned the AHL specifically as a place where they'll look – and while he didn't name Europe or the NCAA, did say something about being open to folks from pretty much anywhere as long as they've got relevant coaching experience (i.e. no former players breaking right in as HC), so I think both are still options.

On the franchise in general, it was primarily about building for the future – but in the context of playing with pride, and putting forth the level of effort and compete worthy of the privilege of playing in NYC.

As for Ruff, I very much got the sense it's all about professional courtesy. My guess is we get a "the organization and Lindy have decided to part ways, as we're embarking on a longer-term project and he wants to be somewhere where he can pursue a Cup immediately" type statement in the next day or so.

Everything he said sounded like "we want Sheldon Keefe" to me.
