So what..OL is a much better player IMO and they lost him for nothing.
Nobody said he was a #1C.
...it's called an expansion draft.. You're going to lose a player....for nothing..that's how it works. Would you rather it be our first rounder...the going rate for them taking on a bad player? Chytil for them taking...whomever u hate..?

your saying the Hags trade was not a cap dump? are you insane? then what was it? and more importantly after all the smoke clears, what one earth do we have for losing Hags? NOTHING, that is my point, we have NOTHING to show for losing HAGS

That’s more about how the prospects turned out than the trade itself though. If Etem and Gropp both pan out, that’s a great trade. They didn’t.

At the moment of the trade, it was good value.

Time to move forward. These next two weeks and this summer will be the defining moments in Gorton’s tenure as Rangers GM. I can see the scenario where Gorton got the blessing from Sather to rebuild the team. Dolan loves Slats. Whatever Slats wants is fine with Jim. If does not work out,it’s on Gorton and he takes the fall. Very similar to Brian Cashman. He wanted to make certain moves and the Steinbrenner’s told him it’s on you if it doesn’t work out. It should be that way. They hired Gorton to run the team. Let him do it his way. Buster Olney had Cashman on his podcast a few weeks ago. It’s all there if you want to hear it.

at the moment of the trade it was awful and it got even worse because Hags found his way to the Pens and that got them over the edge to win the 16 cup...as soon as we traded him to Anaheim the pens were all over it trying to get him, they knew full well the damage Hags caused in the playoffs to the Caps, Pens, Habs, ...after they got hags late in the 16 season we had a game in Pittsburgh and a fan held up a sign which said "we now have your secret weapon" this was the 2nd worst trade in Rangers history only topped by the middleton/hodge debacle in 1976

Lindberg had 9 points this year. That makes whining about losing him even worse

I'd much rather keep grabner and the first he will net us..or jesper fasth who u can put anywhere in the lineup and he plays well.

Who's whining except for you about my post?
I know how an expansion draft works.
I'm just pointing out that another player was lost for nothing.

Could they have possibly traded him for another player, prospects or picks and at least recoup something?
JG could've brought up someone from the minors and exposed them instead?

There were other options instead of just giving up our 4th line center..

we all know that the Hags trade was a salary dump, no one is disputing that, but a competent good GM would pull off a salary cap dump trade like for example Scott Gomez for Mcdonough, that is a successful salary dump trade, what Gorton did with the Hags situation was get rid of a top 6 forward and get zero back and I mean zero, without Hags on the Pens in 16 they do not win the cup, Hags put the Pens over the edge. Gorton goofed so badly with that trade that I hated from that day forward, and to make it worse if Gorton would of talked with Hags before the trade and asked him to sign a team friendly contract Hags would of done that in a heartbeat.
That's completely unrealistic.

What can they possibly have gotten back for lindberg? A 3rd? A 4th? Be realistic here...he's worth about what David desharnai is worth....which ain't much.

And if they did trade him..that means they are losing either fasth or grabner in the expansion draft.

I bet if you asked mcphee right now if he could have a do over on us right now he would say hell yes...gimme grabber/fasth.

Literally losing lindberg, in retrospect was the.... Best case scenario

If you think the hags trade was the 2nd worst in franchise history,im not sure discussing this with you is even worth it.

why? I used that as an example of how a successful salary dump trade is made, I'm not saying to complete that exact trade, but you have to get impact assests for hags and not a bag of pucks, a good competent GM would of done that

So you're telling me that none of these players could've been exposed before OL?

Pirri
Clendening
Glass
Jooris
Hrivik
Beck
McIlrath
Jensen

You’re still lacking the fundamental understanding of what a cap dump is. You don’t get impact assets for RFA negotiating rights for a 3rd liner that doesn’t have cost-controlled years left. They moved up 18 freaking spots up in the 2nd round of a loaded draft. That’s already a lot of value.

Scott Gomez for Chris Higgins + Ryan McDonagh is arguably the best/worst trade since 2005-06. You could not set the bar any higher.

what value ? we have NONE to show for it...please read this

The price you would have had to pay Vegas to take one of those names over Lindberg would have been huge
