I think it's the most natural move. He's the true heir to Sather's thrown imo.

The guy JD named GM and hired in both STL & CLB... is a guy that he used to hype up as a commentator with the Rangers. Guy has his pulse on talent evaluators. That would be the biggest improvement to the Rangers imo. The Rangers scouting outside of a few regions absolutely suck.
Love it but who’s firing Sather?

Would be safe to say that the McD trade will be what we all measure Gorts by?

If he loses out to MaxPac/Nyquist/EKane being traded because his bluff was called on and gets shitty returns on trades then I'd get rid of him.

If he can pull of some good trades (IE players that can play next year & beyond) while getting picks. Then you let him ride it out & get some better scouts to help him.

Plus Five AV. It's time. We need a new system to win here.

Be nice if someone in the front office came out after 1/2 the season and actually gave an interview--would it really hurt to throw a bone to the fans?

And if the Man Behind The Curtain is still running the show--the joke is on Gorton. Either that's what he signed on for or he's afraid to quit over the interference because he'd never get another job in the NHL. OR Gorton is the Man Behind the Curtain and what you see is what you get.

I agree about AV... I guess end of season he has to go.
I just hope that the injuries do not become an excuse to save AV. And yes, I do wonder just how much control Gorton really has, with Sather behind the scenes. I still believe that Sather will veto any possible firing of AV.

Well here's the thing. Sather always had tough guys on his Oiler teams, Gorton drafted some tough guys in Boston, and remember after that Flyers debacle in 06-07 when Dolan flipped out and mandated Colton Orr get more playing time? By process of elimination that's an AV thing.

Maybe. But remember, Sather has been yearning for a pond hockey team for a long, long time.

AV has made the Rangers a softer team for most of the the last 70 odd years.

As an infant, AV made then 70s GM John Ferguson use the Ranger crest Jerseys because it was thought it would make them look tougher and bigger against very rough teams in that era, but AV knew that they really needed to be tougher, but he wanted to sabotage Giacomin, so he planted the Jersey idea in Ferguson's mind to keep him from altering the roster.

As per Brooks..There is nothing imminent when it comes to firing AV.
The coach, system and personnel..
Let the charades continue..
THIS IS ALL ON JG!

Fire Gorton. (and AV). Gorton is the main reason for this years mess.

I mean, there are also a metric f***ton of injuries. Can't really blame JG for that. I think most teams would struggle while 3 of their top6 are out. Granted the team doesn't exactly look like they give a shit about playing anymore, and that's more on AV than Gorton. The players aren't completely absolved from their play, but AV is supposed to be the guy who puts his players in a position to succeed and he routinely does not do that.

At some point Gorton has to step in to preserve what's left of a positive work environment for this team. It can't be pretty behind closed doors right now.

If Gorton can't fire AV after this stretch of games in addition to the whole season, then he needs to go to. I don't care if AV is "helping this team tank" (which is truly pathetic to read some fans here celebrating), he needs to go NOW.

This team is too banged up and will lose regardless. Gorton needs to change the culture in that room. No one is playing hard. No one is playing period. Not for this clown of a coach

This team has turned into a bunch of sad sacks.
Morale is at an all time low.
As much as I want AV gone, even he can't fix this.
This is all on JG..

I mentioned it in the GDT, but the difference between well-coached teams with injuries and our team is that, while both teams may lose, well-coached teams don't get embarrassed like we are now. We have no structure to our game. How can you hold anyone accountable when the essence of your defensive system involves having players chase their man around the ice like a chicken with their head cut off? We can't win puck battles, and that's totally an effort thing. It all goes back to the coach. I could stomach losing 2-1 where we just don't have the horses, but this garbage is appalling. The Bruins could have scored 12 goals on us tonight.
