Your 3c is worth throwing 4.0 to 6.0 at considering how important that position is and I think Carter's age, cap hit and term fits while still getting those higher cap number production out of him.

I remember people wanting to throw a 3.5 cap at Teddy and I thought that was way too heavy, even the 2.2 is about .400 heavy. But he was warming up to that 2.2 for me, and of course "no fault of his own" he's out long-term. Was looking forward to a full season output for him. Er...

Good deal if you think he’s not going to deteriorate…hopefully this inspires Geno and Letang to take less…

So why isn’t Malkin signed yet? Is this Favorite Player leaving insurance?

Zahorna less likely to play.

Is this a good thing?

I'm sorry but 6M in a flat cap world for a 3C is zany. Even 3-4 is getting to the point of "alright that's fine there, thanks."

It's a third line center, man.

Likely negotiating term with Malkin. Team may be concerned with injury history, only suggesting two years. Malkin might be pushing 3 or 4. It'll get done. But, yes, having Carter secured does assure you have a capable second-line center.

I actually think this opens the door more for Zohorna. The Penguins will have to say goodbye to some players (ZAR, maybe Heinen and Rodrigues) and a fourth line of something like Bjorkqvist-O'Connor-Zohorna is entirely reasonable for next year.

Considering Geno's coming back from a serious injury it might be prudent to wait a month or two before we consider re-signing him.

The Burgh
Or they could resign Rodrigues to be a winger and C when Malkin goes down which he does every single year for weeks on end. You’re reading too much into it because nobody knows what Erod will be worth by seasons end.

The Pens very much need to let someone else overpay for ERod's 45-day (or whatever it was) anomalous hot streak. By the time the important players are signed, there's not going to be much left over for him or Dime-A-Dozen Danton Heinen anyway.

I’d let Malkin walk and invest in youth and structure.

Everyone saw how good we were before he came back.

unnecessary risk

Neat. So were McCann and Rodrigues.

And McCann will shortly make more, with ERod a very difficult to predict outlier but also likely to make more. Kapanen's 50 point pace should secure him a 4m contract too.

For what Carter is producing, this a cheap deal. Anyone on cheaper got the deal before they started producing and will correct it at the next opportunity.
