Why wouldn't our defense in the future not have Arber on LD?

The thinking for some is that Arber is highly valued around the league. So, if we could trade him for a high return (say something similar to the Romanov-Dach deal) it might be the way to go, considering we have other good bottom pair d in the system. Even if Struble's overall package isn't as good as Xhekaj's, he still may be a high quality bottom pair damn - plus we also have Guhle, Matheson, Hutson, Engstrom, Harris, and Trudeau on the left side.

Now, for me the return for Xhekaj would have to be very high. We have a lot of small players. And Xhekaj hopefully is one piece to balance out those small players and allow the team to play big. If someone offers the next Dach, sure I take it.

We have needed a guy like Xhekaj for decades - no way in HELL we should consider trading him. I don't care what the return is.

Those who want to trade Arber should be sent to the gulag.
Well I get the point from people arguing they would trade Arber for a Dach like prospect (i.e Lafreniere or Byfield)

I don’t think we’ll pull this one twice.

That’s fine but I wouldn’t do it. It would be like the Bruins trading away a young Lucic.
Yes, that remains to be seen. Lucic was a good fighter and a great offensive player, and played in an era when fighting and size was more important. As soon as the rules changed, Lucic became ineffective.

It remains to be seen if Xhekaj will be as effective of a dman, aside from fighting, as Lucic was a forward, aside from the fighting.

I don't think any team should fall in love with their players, barring a McDavid, Crosby or MacKinnon. But, they also shouldn't be trading them just to trade them. There's no reason to trade Xhekaj. If Pettersson refuses to sign in Vancouver and he needs to be included in the package, you do it, but barring getting a significant player it doesn't make much sense.

Size lol?? He's barely 6ft tall. I would guess that's smaller than NHL average, maybe even smaller than defenseman average.

The 2019 NHL Draft Combine has just wrapped up in Buffalo. While neither Kaapo Kakko or Jack Hughes participated in the fitness testing, Jayden Struble finished at the top of almost every event.

No offense, but fitness results from 4 years ago are not exactly compelling evidence that he has the current size and ability to handle the NHL. That said, Struble's size and physicality are about the last thing we need to worry about, I see zero reason for any concern.

Just look at him on the ice. He is an imposing figure. Some guys are more muscular than others and can pack more muscle on the same frame. Struble is a big guy, despite his size being average. He is imposing, which is what matters.

You can tell the staff likes him, they're already not sheltering him quite as much. It's going to get interesting when most of the injured Dmen start coming back. Internal competition is always a good thing, I'm glad more guys are showing they can hang with the big boys.

It's interesting, apparently Struble has slimmed down since the combine.

I don't know what the thinking is, since mass is important for dmen in battles on the wall and in front of the net. But Struble really does have a lot of speed with his slimmed down frame he gets up and down the ice, darts in and out of the offense, and just covers the ice really well. He's noticeably fast and light on his skates.

I'm looking forward to discovering his game.

Future is bright:

Guhle - Barron
Hutson - Reinbacher
Struble/Xhekaj - Kovacevic
Engstrom/Harris - Mailloux
Konyushkov - Trudeau

Go Struble Go!!
To me Matheson is part of the future until someone shows they can supplant him and Mailloux is ahead of Kovacevic.

Imposing lol. I'm sorry he doesn't look imposing to me at all. When I think of imposing I think of Shea Weber, Hedman, Carlo, Zadorov, Pronger...those types. Struble might a strong guy for his size, but he is not imposing

Hedman and Carlo aren't imposing in the same sense. They're soft as f***.

Struble will get confidence and he'll start throwing people around with his build.

Bouillon also threw people around, he still wasn't an imposing defenseman. Hedman is an imposing defenseman any way you look at it.

Yeah 6'0 and 205 is a pretty solid size for a Dman especially if you are stronger than a country ox.
Mark Giordano is 6', Roman Josi is 6'1, so was/is Duncan Keith. None are softies. There are countless others. Struble can and will be a player opponents do not want to skate by too closely!
