1st pairing is a stretch. I don’t think it’s impossible but not very likely imo.

I did want him to marinate a bit more to see if he could get his offensive game going more. The knock on his offensive game when drafted was he didn’t have the greatest shot but he unleashed a howitzer a couple weeks ago. Was hoping to see more of that.

2nd pairing is possible but he’d have to leap frog some pretty talented kids on this team to do that. Who knows though. He’s really surprised me since being kind of quiet his last couple college years. Hope he can keep doing that. He’s gotta lot going for him. Big fan

He was written off by almost everyone and yet he's playing great in the AHL right off the bat. He has the strength and skating to be a top pairing defenseman. Not sure about the hockey IQ, we'll see.

Have to say I have been viewing him as being low on the depth chart but I was clearly wrong. I don't know about this top pair stuff , not convinced at all on that, but he might have a good future. I'm interested to see him play in the NHL.

I think there’s solid upside there. I don’t know how much but He’s looking more like what some thought when we first drafted him.

I’ll tell you one thing, I don’t think he gets sent back down. I wouldn’t be surprised if he helps a decent amount back there

Because it's gonna be its first steps in the NHL as a hockey player so I hope he concentrates on playing hockey. Can play tough without being an enforcer.

It was more of a joke post to be honest, but yes, I agree with you.

I suspect he will initially struggle with the speed of the game at the NHL. He was caught on a few occasions at Laval when he pinched imprudently which led to goals against. Struble is strong and has above average straightforward speed. It will interesting, as you say, to see if his current game translates well at the NHL level. But this is the year to experiment.

As someone who lobbied for us to draft him and having believed in the kid when everyone gave up on him this is somewhat satisfying. It is just a step and who knows how his foray into NHL waters will go. I do still believe that he has a long NHL career ahead of him.

I never gave up on him as I said he would play in the NHL but I never believed in his offensive upside was higher then a bottom pairing D. When posters were saying last year we wouldn't sign him I said for sure we would same for Tuch.

That right there is his Achilles heel, always get the sense Struble believes his athleticism can make him overcome low probability plays (pinches, passes in traffic / through coverage etc)

It will only take a few of those questionable plays before our braying fan base starts labelling Struble as our latest ‘bust.’ Its all too predictable.

With so many young D guys hitting pro in yearly waves, it would be incompetent of management to do anything other than experiment given the state of our team. And we are far from done as next year Hutson , Reinbacher and Engstrom may all be making a case for a spot. And who knows someone else may rise up and compete.

But the good thing is some of that is very teachable. Don't pinch at this point. Only pass if... My guess is MSL putting his arm around your shoulder and saying kid, if you want to stay up here some day you can't....will make a big impression.

I hope he has a great 1st game and shows he is ready.

One of those Habs prospects who slid under the radar.

I don't know what to expect from him. He has this exciting energy about him, even though he's not known as a player with a lot of offensive flair.

I guess I hope for a defensively solid Romanov, who brings energy and physical play. But I expect him to need time to adjust to the speed of the NHL and to make some defensive blunders while he gets his feet wet. We saw those in the early careers of everyone from Barron to Emelin to Streit to Josh Gorges, etc...

There really has been a gap from that golden era of D prospects (Subban, McDonagh, Streit, Emelin, Y. Weber, Gorges) to this one (Guhle, Mailloux, Barron, Xhekaj, Harris, Struble, Reinbacher, Hutson, Engstrom, Norlinder). This one looks to certainly be deeper. We'll see about the quality. Guhle could be McDonagh and Reinbacher could eclipse Subban. Would be nice if Hutson or Mailloux could bring some offensive flair...

I think once he gets a bit of experience you may be surprised at his offensive side. He also has a decent transition game. Don't look at the NCAA numbers as they are skewed because of the way NE played.

Unrelated but Romanov is having a pretty bad year offensively. 1 point through 17 games.
