Yeah I ranted for a few days to my wife about how stupid the Oilers were for bringing in Coffey and that he has no experience and this will fail. Plus I thought it undermined Knob by forcing an assistant on him with no experience.

Crow tastes good. I will give him credit in that the D have spoke highly of him and seeing Ekholm pinch on that goal against Carolina was ALL Coffey.

It turns out my rage reactions to decisions on my couch aren’t always right. (In fact they are usually wrong)
As fans we always think we know more than we actually do but being wrong is human and sometimes it feels good to be able to laugh at yourself.

I hated both the optics of the Coffey hire, and didn’t feel he was qualified based in his coaching resume. I am so far glad to be wrong on this front, still watchful of things because well….its the oilers.

This point does not stand.

It will be very easy. My point stands.
JFC, your point doesn't stand for the same reason his doesn't stand. You're both wrong.

It's not gonna take 112 points to make the playoffs &, that being said. making the playoffs is NOT going to be "easy".

My main concern is that KK teaches them how to handle winning well.

Hot take, but I think the 9-game winning streak and the overall post-TDL heater from last year was one of the worst things that could've happened to the Oilers. They forgot what adversity looked like and became complacent at the exact wrong time.

Its an absolutely fair perspective to have because the reality was that both the optics around his hiring and his lack of coaching experience were obvious issues.
That Coffey appears to have made the most of this coaching opportunity (and overcome his lack of coaching experience) is welcome news.

Considering the reality of of the bolded there is certainly no justification for any poster to use Coffeys apparent success to generate an "I told you so" moment.

It’s okay to be wrong. ;)

Of course. That definitely happens.

Someone can also make a guess when all the available information completely contradicts their predicted outcome.
My point is that its nothing more than a lucky guess...not exactly a pat yourself on the back/hidden genius (call out other posters) moment.

Haha that’s fair. The doubts about the hire were fair but the venom against Coffey was not.

I love the impact that Knob and Coffey have had on the team but I still feel bad for Woodcroft. He deserved better and will land somewhere else where his skills will be appreciated and he’ll get a chance to succeed.

IMO this looks to be more than a new coach pop. As others have said it will be interesting to see how Knoblauch makes adjustments if things aren't going as well. What I see is a whole team buying in and playing better. Now if only we can add a bit more toughness in the bottom 6 and a quality goalie to make Skinner earn his starts.

Agreed.

The breakouts look alot better under knob and coffey, no more just chipping it out every chance you get.

Which skills are you talking about? The Oilers were constantly worked 5 on 5 but got bailed out by the best PP in history. It wasn’t a recipe for playoff success.

I think a big part of this is both McDavid and Ekholm being healthy. It's easy to see the difference between McDavid now and McDavid in the first 10+ games. But I think the same thing can be said of Ekholm as well. He looks like the version that came from Nashville right now and he sure did not early on.
